I have been on Prozac for about 10 years for depression and anxiety. In the past year or so my depression symptoms have started to return and my anxiety is worse than it has ever been. I have tried Zoloft and Welbutrin, as well as adding abilify but nothing seems to help. I have also been on Ativan, klonopin, and librium for anxiety and it doesn't help much either (I'm also worried about getting addicted to the benzos). I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and switched to a different medication that seemed to help for depression and anxiety after your prozac has stopped working?
Prozac for depression and anxiety not working so well, what else could I try?

I have tried them all! Prozac was first. zoloft, wellbutrin, and several others. Lexapro taken at night seems to b my best fit. im prescribed 30mg. Have valium as needed. Started abilify today becaise chemistry has changed as i went off pain medication. It is a long hard process to find what works. I feel like life is just passing by while im a guinea pig. But must remain hopeful. And only u know ur body. Hang in there. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in t world.
I am in a similar situation. Did you find something to help. I'm desperate for help
i had the same problem. what i would do is talk to your doctor about a "2 prong approach" as i call it. zoloft is an SSRI and just because it is not working does not mean other drugs like it wont work (ex. paxil,,celexa) also, talk to him about adding a mild benzodiazipine such as a low dose of xanax or klonopin for times when your depression and anxiety overwhelms you. years ago i was prescribed prozac and it did not help my depression at all.. i talked to my doctor and he changed me to zoloft (which worked for me) and 1mg of xanax twice daily as needed. within 1 month i felt MUCH better. im still on these meds today. so yes,i have expierienced exactly what you have and that is what was done about it. also, theres always ABILFY that you can supplement your anti- depressant with but i would talk to your doctor about that one. hope i helped:)!
Hi, kewlj! Of course, only you and your doctor can decide what might be an appropriate medication to try next, but be aware that there a lot of options. And if one doesn't work you can try another. It can sometimes be a long road to get to a cocktail that works for you. But keep trying. What's working best for me right now
is Effexor/Zyprexa/Lamictal. Keeps me pretty steady.
I agree with you about the benzos. Been in rehab with some of these folks and it's tough on them! Best wishes and good luck!
Hello kewij. You might ask your doctor to perscribe Paxil/Paroxetine. Proven effective for both anxiety/depression. Regards pledge
I agree, you need to speak with your doctor and tell him/her what you just told us. These are serious medictions and the fact they aren't working any longer is a problem. There is the right combination for you, so please don't get discouraged. Good luck to you.
There are so many of these today, the best I can advise is to have a long talk with your Dr, who is the one who is most familiar with your situation and see what else might be a good fit. Even though you've tried several, there are many more. Hope this helps.
First, talk to your doctor. You have described some serious issues that only a doctor can completely sort out.
I will say; however, that several new drugs, including Viibryd, have been very helpful to some of us with long-term major depression. Your doctor can make the real decisions, I just wanted to let you know that there is a lot of sunshine in your future if you ask the right questions.
Good luck and keep us posted.
