I have been prescribed a daily dosage of 75 mg after an angioplasty (2 stents).
My weight has gone up 5 pounds in three days.
Is bloating (water retention) a side effect of plavix?

Definately call the cardiologist office. It is not unusual for a patient to think he has been “fixed” when that is not really the case. More than likely you have been told to cut back on salt processed foods like cheese , lunch meat and TV dinners. It’s ok but you must take a proactive approach to your health, as after all your very own body! The dr will keep adding meds if you don’t. So there are many good and reliable resources , beginning with your own hospitals cardiac rehab. The nurses and any of the support staff love helping patients who aren’t exactly sure what to do. Plavix doesn’t cause swelling and weight gain. Too much salt and salt containing food and fluids cause swelling and could land you back in the ER with further damage to your one and only. Take care and don’t hesitate to reach out for help. There are many wanting you on the road to better health. Good luck and many blessings.
Due to ongoing balance/vestibular issues which I also believe are attributable to Plavix, my cardiologist agreed to let me cut my 75 MG dose in 1/2 and the water retention completely went away. Anyone have issues with Plavix causing balance/vestibular problems? Two stents put in my LAD artery in July '20, have had balance/equilibrium issues ever since. Taking no other meds but a cholesterol med & baby aspirin
I have had two stents placed as well from two separate events. The first time I was on plavix 1 year and had horrible fluid retention which dissipated as soon as I stopped plavix. I expect the same thing this year as I started holding fluid right away once starting plavix. I do not have any kidney issues and have had zero heart damage so it is the plavix.
I have been on Plavix for two years and have not had a problem with edema. Your water retention may be caused by something else. My cardiovascular surgeon, my cardiovascular specialist, and the Rehab Center nurses have cautioned me to be aware and should I start retaining water, seek medical help. Don't let it go because it definitely can affect your heart.
Best of luck!
You must seek medical advice for water retention, however its has not been documented that Plavix could cause water retention, but it could be edema, I have the same problem been on Plavix for 30 odd months & have been prescribed a diuretic to counter this effect, have 2 stents too.
Please seek medical advice, take care & be well!
