I was taking 200 mg of Lyrica twice a day for upper back pain that goes up my neck. I turned a 4 wheeler over and hit my head and back real hard on the ground. My cobra insurance ran out and I couldn't afford it so I am now taking gabapentin 300 mg. twice a day and I hurt like I did before I starting taking the Lyrica. Is there a stronger dose and can I take it?

I'm taking 3600 mg a day I think I can go higher, but I also take Ryzolt 300 mg and vicoden 10/500 still have pain

USMarine, I recently lost my insurance also and have actually started getting patient assistance through the drug companies. I also take Lyrica so I went through Lyrica's website for patient assistance. The website you need to go to is www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com from there you can enter some personal information. Since I am not working and not insured I actually receive my meds for free from them.
Also if you have other medications that you take and cannot afford you might go to " Prescription assitance Program" Website: www.pparx.org and this website will point you to an orginazation to help you out.
And as far as the Gabapentin I was told that 2700 mg day is the max.
I take 900 mg three times a day for the last 8 years.

My original prescription was for one 100mg before bed for 3 nights and then on the 4th day take one 100mg in the morning and one 100mg before bed until the 30 day prescription with 1 refill was finished.
"WHAT A JOKE"! Time to play Dr.
I began to take one 100mg in the morning, one 100mg at lunchtime and one 100mg before bed with no affect.
Next day 200mg 3 times a day.
Next day 300mg 3 times a day.
Next day 400mg 3 times a day.
Next day 500mg 3 times a day.
I call the Dr. on call from the hospital that treated me. I tell her of my endeavor and she request for me to come see her at her private practice.
(I have no Doctor, My 1st Dr. retired, My 2nd Dr. died, My 3rd Dr. retired)!
No Dr.'s are taking on new patients in this community and there is no waiting list to receive 1 due to them saying theres not enough Dr.'s here!
I tell her that at 1500mg per day the ache was gone in my left arm just below the elbow and just above my elbow as well as in my left shoulder rotator cup. But the buzzing and tingling in the last two fingers up to my tricep was still very much prevalent. She increased the dosage to 180 - 300mg to be taken 3 times per day. So the maximum amount of dosage as per prescribed by the Dr. was 2700mg per day at 3 preset intervals.
I'm still getting consistant buzzing and tingling! Do I continue to play Dr.?

I'm currently on three doses of 400 mg during the day and 800 at night. Can anyone tell me if they've developed shakiness as a symptom since taking this? I've been very shaky lately

I am on 800mg , 4x a day of gabapentin/neurontin . In 08 I started at 300 /3@day now in 2011 the 800/4@ day. The dosage amount I believe starts at 300 and ends at 3600 either way good luck , I hope I helped you a little bit.

I am also on 800mg 5 times a day my Dr upped my dosage after my 5th car Accident because my severe migraines got so much worse and they have helped me a lot . When I started them I was on 800mg 3 times a day.

I take Gabapentin 400mg 3 times a day for severe nerve pain. I have been put back on this medication along with other pain medication for severe back pain which is very hard to treat but my pain levels are down, not completely gone but down so I can get sleep at night. I have accepted the fact that I may never be pain free but enough to get through life and I have no side effects.

I am 52 years old and my Dr has been having me take 900 mg 3 times a day for my Neuropathy due to Tethered Cord syndrome. I also have Chiari Malformation type 3. I get the 600 mg and take one and a half 3 times a day. My Dr also said the dose can go up to 3600 a day but that it really doesnt do much more than the 2700. Hope that helps

I was taking Gabapentin 300mgms. twice a day, (2 capsules) which did not help my spinal stenosis at all. My doctor said I could take 4 capsules a day - 1200 mgms. - this dose seems to be helping more, I see my doctor this week - he did say last time I saw him - that we could probably raise the dosage higher... as for whether you can take a stronger dose, please talk to your doctor, as everyone's condition is different... hope this helps, good luck!!

I was told that you can take up to 3600 mg of Neurontin per day in divided doses. Please get the advice of your prescribing doctor before self-medicating!

4000 mg a day is the strongest effective dosage. Increasing beyond that does not give better therapeutic effects. I am presently taking 1200mg a day and I am beginning to notice my peripheral neurapathy increasing burning arms hand legs.

bnagoh! Is that why you haven't been posting lately? The pain getting that bad huh? I sure hope you get your neck problems solved. I know how you feel and can empathize. I saw hubby's x-rays on the screen for the first time last week after his 3rd cervical surgery. He's now one solid fusion from C-2 through C-7. The first plate is anterior (front of the neck) from c2 to c5. Then the 2nd plate and graft is posterior (back of neck) from c5 to c7. Or maybe the other way around, I forgot. But I'll tell you something my friend, he's never felt better! He's 80% healed and doing great. So there is hope for you. Don't give up the good fight.

Your gabapentin dose can be increase as a previous respondent stated but it can also be taken with a drug like Cymbalta. The two drugs work well incombination to decrease pain. I take 30 mg of Cymbalta twice a day and I was taking it with Gabapentin. I was switched to Lyrica with hopes of increasing the effectiviness in treatng my nerve pain, however, I had an allergic reaction to the Lyrica. I now take Topamax (which has a generic but with many side effects) with the Cymbalta. The Cymbalta with the Gabapentin was a good combination with few to no side effects. It may work well for you and may be worth discussing with your doctor. Good luck.

Be very careful if you take cymbalta that you don't have a heart condition. It caused me a heart attack.also topamax can cause visual problems that leads to blindness, which has also happened to me. If you still take it and start to see things different see your Dr right away.

You could always find out if you qualify for free Lyrica. They have a patient assistance program. Go to the Lyrica site and look for the PAP link. You will need to have your latest financials and such but they are very generous with helping people out.

I have been talking 800 mg of Gabapentin 4 times a day for several years. I take it--along with 2 other pain meds--for neuropathy pain. I'm to the place where I need something else to help my pain. I already take a very high dosage of gabapentin, so I don't know what my doctor will prescribe for me. Please pray for me. Thank you.

Neurontin is same as gabapentin. 3600mg in 3 divided doses is max. Lyrica and gabapentin effect pain receptor sites in brain, and they also help mental illness. Lyrica is so expensive because helps with pain ALOT more than gabapentin! I max out on gaba. Would take Lyrica but might adversely interact with other meds I take. Sucks for me!

I asked my Neurologist how high I can go on Gabapentin a day .He said 2700.mg. I get the 600mg Tabs .Some days I take it to 1800.mg That is the highest I have taken it for my Peripheral Neuropothy .

what I see here is 300-600mg 3 times a day and it does caution to watch dose (reduced dose with people with kidney disease. hope this helps, best wishes

THanks for the tips on hte Gabapentin .Gabpentin also made me lose my balance on the higher dosage .That is why I cut it down to 600mg per day .I take Motrin 800mg once daily ,so the meds are helping .taking htem in hte Am ,and in the PM...

Lyrica made me shake like I was freezing or something.I zoomed to the doc.
She gave me something to stop it real quick.One pill. Never again. I can take Gaba 300 mg every 6 hours. A little loopy but no pain. By "loopy" I mean distracted easily. Less ability to focus or concentrate. That goes for the pain too so ="pain relief". It's there. The Gaba makes you not think about it. Almost like adrenaline. It hurts for a second when i twist or stand up and my brain goes to focus elsewhere like on what I'm walking to/for... like typing this LOL. Faster than normal. Serious focus.Back to my shop. More pain on the way. I work with steel. Thank God light sheet metal.

I used to take 2 lyricas a day. it made my feet feel great. but cant afford with new ins. so now I am taking 2700mg gabapentin a day. it makes my feet feel good. Hope it is not messing with anything else in my body

My husband accidently took 2700MG a day for 8 days. He is dropping things and can't stay awake. The doctor told us you shouldn't take more than 900MG. My sister is on 1800 and she also has fallen and her eyes are getting worse.
