I was taking 200 mg of Lyrica twice a day for upper back pain that goes up my neck. I turned a 4 wheeler over and hit my head and back real hard on the ground. My cobra insurance ran out and I couldn't afford it so I am now taking gabapentin 300 mg. twice a day and I hurt like I did before I starting taking the Lyrica. Is there a stronger dose and can I take it?
What is the strongest dose of gabapentin?

For nerve pain I have been taking as prescribed 1200 mg of Gabapentin three times a day for over a year. I still did not get much relief so I am being tapered off of it and am slowly adding Lyrica. I was told that my dosage was the highest allowed to be prescribed.
Federal Government says maximum dose for Gabapentin is 3200 mg a day. I've been getting disability for 15 years for restless legs. My neurologist gives me 6400 mg a day. Ive taken over 20 pills in a nite for a buzz. Pills are 800 mgs. I don't bother counting. I no they bypass the liver so I've gotten crazy on the amount.
I’m taking gabapentin but this isn’t much help but it makes me realise how lucky we are in the UK. We either pay £8.00 for each prescription you need, or pay up front fee of £27.00 and this entitles you to how many prescriptions you need for 3 months no limit. It’s so sad to hear that you couldn’t continue with medication as it got to expensive
I used to take 600 mg and it's pretty much how much you can handle in addition to anything else you might be taking, if you're not taking anything else try asking for a higher dose. Also you can sometimes get your meds cheaper if you get a Rx for a 90 day supply.
Yes I take Gabapentin 5×s aday 800 mgs I've heard that is the strongest Dosage They have on the Market..
I was taking 900 mg per day and got no pain relieving effect. 600 at night and 300 in am. It just made me sleepy and loopy after 2 weeks. No one told me to take it with a meal as one person’s comment explained. So I have weaned myself off it now. Would taking it with a meal make any difference? I didn’t want to try a higher dose because I felt I would just get more drowsy without relief. Anyone have any thoughts? I was also worried about weight gain side effect.
My Dr. prescribed 600mg 4 times per day. I’ve been taking them for years. Helps with my pain from Scoliosis back surgery (6 bolts & a rod).
I am taking 3600mg of gabapentin at three times a day. That is 1200mg every 8 hours. And it isn't enough. If I take 7200mg a day at 2400mg every 8 hours my neothopy pain is completely gone. I am use to the side effects. Just a little drowsiness. But my doctor doesn't want me taking that much. Doctor days that 3600mg a day is the limit. So she wants me to try Lyrica. She is starting me out on 100mg. I am still having pain. So I will be talking to her about increasing the Lyrica. Anybody have any advice?
I take 800 3 times a day if needed he said he'll give me 1200 three times a day
I just thought I'd add here that I'm a type 1 diabetic with peripheral neuropathy. I juse started gabapantin for like third time. I've taken 200 x twice a day of tramadol, I've been taking it for 3 years. It doesn't help other pain. But tramadol has been my saving grace against this awful disease.

Please elaborate. What does the tramadol do for you and do you notice any problems with it ?
I beg to differ... I am prescribed 1600mg@ 4 times per day... my neuropathy is so bad and it is in my hands as well plus I have a major nerve crushed in my leg from an accident and 5 bulging discs... I'm a major catastrophe...
MAX Presribed Dosage... 3600mg p24hrs
Lyrica (Pregabalin) and Neurontin (Gabapentin) are very similar in chemical structure, and have very similar chemical properties. The only main differences are that Lyrica is more potent than Neurontin, which doesn't necessarily mean it's stronger, It just means you would require a much larger dose of Gabapentin (Neurontin) to equal the effects of a very small dose of Pregabalin (Lyrica). It's ABSOLUTELY VITAL you take your Gabapentin with FOOD. Preferably something with a bit of fat in it, that does not contain high amounts of calcium, magnesium, zinc, aluminum or other metals. Antacids contain metals, such as the ones I mentioned above. Do not take something like TUMS or Rolaids with your Gabapentin. A perfect companion to your Gabapentin would be something simple, like a glass of juice, a piece of toast, and peanut butter, or some high-fat/protein spread.
This will increase the amount of Gabapentin that gets into your body, and you will definitely notice a difference and notice it helps you much more than if you take it on an empty stomach with juice or water. Taking the food with it is very important, and many doctors and pharmacists will not tell you that. It's also very important to know you should never take ANY of your medications within 2-3 hours of consuming iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, chromium, or other metals, etc. it will BLOCK the effect of 99% of medications out there, and you will be wasting your dose. Lyrica can be taken on an empty stomach, but Gabapentin has to be taken with a small meal or you're really cheating yourself of it's pain relieving properties. I used Gabapentin and thought it was useless until my doctor told me to eat a meal with it, and I noticed an effect similar to and better than Lyrica. My pain was decreased very much. I notice if I take it without the meal, I barely notice any effect. Try what I've mentioned! It will help if you're on Gabapentin!
The pills come in 100 mg, 300 mg, 400 mg, 600 mg, and 800 mg strengths. In clinical trials the maximum daily dosage that still produced efficacy in patients was 3,600 mg/day taken over three times during the day, i.e. 1,200 mg morning, afternoon, and night. Hope this helps.
My Doc told me 300 mg... can't remember if that was once or twice a day, but he has me on 75 mg in the AM and PM. I experimented and took one in the late morning/early afternoon about 6-8 hours after my AM dose and felt better and it saved me from having to take Soma and Lortab... just some IBU and I was okay. I guess I can ask him if I can take it every 6-8 hours during the waking hours but I'm afraid of having to keep upping the dose to keep it effective. My head about exploded when I saw the levels others posted here, but I am new to Lyrica. I just remember Amitriptilene back in the day where Fibro folks would start low and be on 10-15x the dose they started with in just a matter of months. It scares me that this could be like that since I think it's working for me, but I'll try to stay positive.
I don't know if there is a stronger dose because you are already on so much higher of a dose than what I was advised. Maybe there is a medication that reacts well with it, because some meds work better combined than alone.
