I've tried the pill in many different forms, and I've experimeced relatively low amounts of weight gain no more than 5-7 lbs but I am getting older now and my schedule is so out of whack I want to make my life easier without having to remember to take a pill every day. I've read a lot of women experience weight gain with the depo shot. I'm trying to get into great shape and actually loose some weight so I want to hear any testimonials about preventing weight gain on the depo shot or if it's inevitable.
Depo-Provera - Has anyone NOT experienced weight gain with the Depo shot?

Sorry , if I came across saying that if you don’t have self control you’ll gain weight . Just for me if I don’t control my food intake I’ll gain weight bc with depo I do get cravings . I just wanted to share from my experience that I was able to lose weight from the weight I gained from depo . Everyone will react differently . I’ve known people that depo is a nightmare for and I know many people who love it and has little to no side effects . I am sorry for anyone who does eat right and exercises and still gains weight . I can imagine that is very frustrating. I would suggest if weight gain continues and diet and exercise isn’t helping , try another option that will be better for your body . I’ve personally done a different birth control before and it was not a great experience. You just have to find one that is good for your body .
Thank you for clarifying. I understand.
I’ve been on depo for 4 years and it can make you gain weight , but also I’ve been able to lose weight while being on depo by eating healthy and self control because depo will make you hungry because of all the hormones. If you are a person that has trouble with self control , you may want to consider a birth control with less or no hormones . Everyone is different though . I personally love depo because besides the fact that it can make me hungry , I haven’t had any other issues and been able to control my hunger on it and just watch my food intake .
To suggest that women who gain weight do so due to lack of self control, is very unfair & innacurate. Many women eat a good diet & exercise regularly, yet still put on weight, which is what happened to me.
Abbey Berenson, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, found in her study that women who had previously used the shot saw a smaller weight gain than those who used it for the first time. She also stated that white women who weren't obese gained significantly more than those who were—yet the same didn't hold true for black women. They simply do not know for certain what it is about the progesterone that leads to weight gain.
I Have you been on this site only six months and I went from 145 pounds to 175 pounds I’m trying everything I can to get my weight off but nothing is working I probably only last like 1 pound and I go to the gym constantly drink water and protein but I go to my doctors and tell them that I’m gaining weight and they say there’s no research that shows Depo makes you gain weight but it clearly does

I've been on the shot for the better part of 16 years.I have been on the far opposite of the spectrum where I have lost weight on the shot. I eat like a HORSE, and cant gain over 130 lbs.i really think it depends on the person and how you react to it. However I have experienced really low iron. That's been my bad side affect.
Im just the opposite 2 shots and lost 35lbs. and gives me no appetite
I didn't have any problems with weight gain. Some people say Depo caused them to have cravings though so maybe try to eat something healthy if that happens. I've been on it 6 months and am still adjusting to it, though.
