I have had prolia injection 4months ago and can feel my cartiliges or the muscles that are protecting by bones on both by feet have become weak and swelling and thus having problems walking without support..I thought I had hair line fractures but ex rays says nothing..I will be visiting my dr who had recomended prolia, and will confirm with her as to what's happened??
Sorry to hear that this happened to you. As you read through the other responses you will see that others have suffered from Prolia. In my case it has caused permanent bone pain and skin inflammation. It does seem odd to me that it only affected your feet if it was from Prolia. But the doctor most likely will tell you what others have said their doctors told them, that no one else in their practice have had problems with Prolia. But that doesn't mean that it hasn't had the effect on you. I will be interested in what the doctor has to say about your feet. Good luck.
I just had my 4th Proleria shot & I've never had the slightest problem with my injections. Where I go to get my injections, the nurse makes me sit there & listen while she reads the adverse reactions to the drug & talks to me about them before she will give me the shot, telling me to see my Dr. or go to the ER if I should I have even the slightest pain. I am really sorry about your problems with Fosamax & Boniva, but like you, I have kidney failure & Proleria has not been a problem with it.
Lucky you--so far. As you can see above, one person had terrible side effects after their 7th Prolia injection. Wish you continued luck.
You are very fortunate happy for you, but after seven shots, I had and still having horrible side effects. I just hope the effects are not permenant. Good luck!
I had my first and last injection of prolia about a year ago. Two months after that I had an implant started in my left lower jaw. Another implant in my right lower jaw was loose and and the surgeon tried to tighten it, but it was unsuccessful even after he chipped away at a bit of bone. The next day I started experiencing severe pain in my lower jaw. This continued for almost 6 weeks and I still have quite a bit of tenderness on both sides. I have bone loss as well. The surgeon is no longer in the practice and the new surgeon is being very cautious. I go in for checkups and x-rays every 3 months and so far nothing has been done except that the crown on the loose implant was removed and the implant tightened... no crown has been replaced. I have a titanium post. No one should ever have oral surgery when taking prolia in my opinion. The problem is one never knows what an accident may require surgery. Prolia is probably a wonderful drug, but there should be better warnings and these warning should be sent to all oral surgeons.
Prolia itself can cause necrosis of the jaw--that's deterioration of the bone. You seem to be having a different problem with it. Is that right?
Yes I have had 7 PROLIA shots starting in 2012. I was very healthy. I stared taking at the suggestion from my oncologist, so I trusted that it was a safe drug, and never researched the side effects until I ok my last one Feb. 23, 2015. My whole body started to change. It took the last to bring me really down. I have experienced almost all of the side effects, muscle pain, skin issues, aches, unbearable pain, hearing problems, and more! Do not take this drug. It is horrible. I have reported to the FDA. Hope they do further research on Prolia. I will never take another injection!!!
Good for you for reporting to the FDA. I also reported my horrible effects which are still with me almost 3 years since I had just one Prolia injection. The Fosamax type meds also have terrible side effects which are known to last indefinitely. I will never take anything ever again for my bones. Plus it doesn't build normal density bones. My mother died at age 88 with severe osteoporosis without ever breaking any bones. She was careful.
I was on Prolia for more than 2 years with great results... hip and back bones rebuilt... No side effects at all (except reeling from the PRICE of the shot). However, bone scan of last March showed one hip and back bones not rebuilding and now have to switch back to Forteo (self-adm shots_ daily, after blood work rules out any unknown -to-us complications. ) Dr has never seen this unexplained regression. I am very old but work out daily do Zumba weights etc... Before Forteo I was on Fosamax... but had reached the max no years to be on it.
I am so very sorry to hear about your bones not rebuilding. Another terrible effect of Prolia. I heard from one woman who did the Forteo for 2 years, but didn't have any progress. I hope that you will have better luck. I myself don't trust any of these bone rebuilder medications. My mother had bad osteoporosis, died at 88 years and never broke anything, but she was very careful. That's what I'm hoping for. I do wear estrogen patches which help to prevent further bone loss, but do not rebuild it. None of these bone medications build bone like the body does. Instead you get more brittle bones. Oh well, I've babbled way too much for you I'm afraid. Thanks for sharing. Wish you the best.
I had my first injection late February 2015. Cannot wait for this to be.out of my system. Am experiencing bone aches, use a heating pad every night. Very low blood pressure and extreme hair loss. Also just extremely tired all the time. Will never use this again. Just want to know how much longer to expect these symptoms.
On the Prolia website, it says to contact your doctor immediately if you have allergic reactions including low blood pressure, trouble breathing; swelling face, lips, or tongue; rash; itching; or hives. You definitely qualify for that. If your doctor is not available, it sounds like something that you should go to the ER about. I sincerely hope that your side effects go away soon. The medication is supposed to have a half life of one month, which means every month the medication is cut in half. But I've had bad skin inflammation and bone pain for nearly 3 years after just one injection. The website does NOT list hair loss, so you should file a Medwatch on the FDA website. If the FDA gets enough common complaints, then the manufacturer has to list it as a side effect. So I would file that. And I would wait to see how long the side effects last so that you can add that.too. You're only supposed to file once.
That's because I've had bad skin inflammation and bone pain for nearly 3 YEARS after just one injection. I do sincerely hope that your side effects go away soon. The medication is supposed to have a half life of one month, which means every month the medication is cut in half.
Sorry I forgot that you do not get to edit your comment, so I didn't erase my copy and pasting. So sorry about the repetition.
The Prolia website does say, "Serious allergic reactions have happened in people who take Prolia®. Call your doctor or go to your nearest emergency room right away" And they list low blood pressure as a serious allergic response.
Thanks Sara for this information. My doctor did not know why the low blood pressure, he discovered it. I will let him know the reason why as I tell him why I will not ever take this injection again. So tired of being tired.
Unfortunately we have to be the gatekeepers for our own medical health. Good for you for researching it further. Wish you the best.
I had side effects from Prolia for 5 months. I went to my Oncologist yesterday, I was due for my second injection. No thank you. He recommended a few months back to get the Reclast IV... my GYN highly disagreed, said it stays in your system for a year and has worse side effects than Prola I can't imagine anything worse. My Oncologist did not recommend Fosamax, said there are jaw, and severe esophagus side effects. He did recommend me taking Boniva. It is a once a month pill. I have done my research on all of these drugs. The side effect are awful... but I need to take something. I am going to start taking the Boniva tomorrow. Wish me luck!
I do wish you luck for sure. I myself don't trust any of the bone medications. My mother had severe osteoporosis and lived to age 88 without any broken bones. But she was careful. I have osteoporosis at age 63. After my continuing terrible side effects for 3 years now from a single injection, I am not taking any more chances. Wish you the best.
I had my last injection on February 23, 2015. The side effects you are having are some of the same side effects that I am having, along with a number of others. It has really knocked me down. I was strong until I had Prolia shots for osteopenia at the suggestion of my doctor to prevent osteoporosis . It is a horrible drug with horrible side effects. I wish I had researched or been informed of the possible side effects before I had this drug injected into my body. I am still suffering, the park had not gone away. Just hoping & praying now that this is not permenant and hope yours is not permenant. I will never take another shot !!
To Joey, So sorry to hear about your experience. You should file a Medwatch on the FDA website about Prolia. That's the only way that the manufacturer will have to list more side effects in the future to warn others about this horrible medicine.
I had prolia injection and i fe el,fantástico anysideeffect, befo re i was on alendronic ácid and for one year in was living in pain, happy to be in prolia, anysideeffect as my reumatologist told me

I've just been prescribed this injection from my endocrinologist. Sorry ladies, but I am a bloke with servere osteoporosis and a fracture of the thoracic C6 and C7. After reading these reviews from patients testimony, I am now somewhat concerned of what appears to be very nasty side effects. Any input?
Regards
Michael
Hard to say with my 3 years so far of continuing bone pain and bad skin inflammation from just one injection that I would rather not have done for the modest bone increase.. After my one injection, I got just a 6% increase in bone which my endocrinologist was ecstatic about, telling me that that was not the usual increase. With the minimal bone increase and bone that it is more brittle than your normal bone building, I would be leery myself. My mother had severe osteoporosis and lived to 88 with no bones breaking, but she was very careful. I would be even more leery of Fosamax and those meds in that class because those have a very long half life and a very modest bone increase. I took it for 5 years and still got osteoporosis. You'll have to make your own choices. I know that the Prolia is inviting, but read some of the other responses. I am so sorry.
Be concerned. This comment is my opinion not fact. Read all listed side effects. These powerful drugs can be very helpful but you are taking a risk of permanent harm. You and your doctor must have an honest discussion to answer the question, are the potential risks worth the potential benefits. In the end you decide. Prolia has been prescribed for me. I received a "grant" so I can get it free. That raises an alert right there. I haven't yet discussed risk versus benefit with my doctor. My reading suggests that it will make bones stronger FOR A FEW MONTHS to a year but after that, bone loss is greater than ever. I'm thinking that perhaps even after drug is out of my system the bone loss continues. Maybe side effects continue as well. Any drug that causes a body to grow bone is a powerful drug. I'm not surprised to hear about big problems. There may be no reasonable alternatives.
Excess calcium is associated with higher risks of heart problems so I stopped calcium supplement, fosamax doesn't seem to work, etc. I'm looking at a "drug" (herb) used in India and at weight bearing or resistance exercise. I don't like the idea of giving a bone-changing drug to a healthy 70 y.o. woman with a RISK of bone fracture when risks of PUBLISHED side effects are so great. I have t decided but I must inform myself about everything I put in my mouth, not blame others when bad things happen.
I did read about the side effects, but with every other medication that I've had side effects from, the side effects go away after stopping the medication. With just one Prolia injection 3 years ago, I've had continued severe skin inflammation and bone sensitivity. It appears to be permanent. Nothing in the literature even hinted at the side effects being permanent. This means that I cannot wear my CPAP mask which causes me very poor sleep and can lead to other serious diseases. It means that even sitting on a soft chair, I have some irritation to my bun bones. And it means that to pet my cats is like rubbing my hands in fiberglass. And other problems. It seems very unfair to me. And yes, I do blame the Prolia manufacturer for not publishing that the side effects could be permanent. If you think that it's unfair to blame anyone, that's my opinion.
And I don't recall anything about the heart problem being published 3 years ago. I think that may have been added since my injection.
I am suppose to go in on Sept. 3, 2015 for my first Prolia injection. I am terrified to say the least. I have one fracture (T-5) and it was painful and I have infrequent pain from it. I have "full-blown osteoporosis" and doctor has recommended the Prolia injection. I don't know what to do there seem to be so many negative results from those of you who have posted. I just read that the drug is manufactured from the cells of Chinese hamster embryo cells. Do we really want that inside out bodies?
I need advice from someone who has had experience Prolia injections. Please respond both neg and pos???
Go to the official website for Prolia put out by the manufacturer. There a great many horrible side effects listed. There is another question re. Prolia on this website which also includes horror stories from others. A great many people do not have bad side effects. And some people got terrible reactions after there 3rd or 5th injection. Then weigh that against what the Prolia will do for you. How much bone increase does the doctor think that you may get. I got 6% increase which the endocrinologist thought was great. Was that great? I don't think so. And what kind of bone will it increase? Probably not like the bone that your body makes, but a more brittle type of bone. Wish you the best with your decision.
3rd injection of prolia is due in a fortnight. Side effects are too much for me and will discuss with my endo next week. Last scans showed no further loss in BMD and no increase. Jaw pain has started and muscle cramps for over 12 months that petrude through the ribs. Time to get this stuff out of my system
Mick, so sorry to hear about your problems. It sounds like you certainly need to stop with the injections. It just isn't worth it. Perhaps you can try another bone medication. Although the others have possible problems as well. But Prolia isn't for you. Wish you well.
My significant other tried Prolia and she's having problems with her jawbone disintegrated. Please let me know if you or anyone that you know had a similar problem. We are looking to start a class action suit against the manufacturer.
Thank you,
Jeff Weiss
How terrible! You definitely need to contact an attorney to see if it is even possible to file a class action suit since it was listed as a side effect. How many injections did your significant other have before the disintegration occurred? I don't personally know of anyone. You would get more responses if you posted that as your own question. Perhaps you did, but I don't have much time to follow the questions since I have other medical issues. Good luck to you.
Hello Jeff, My dear friend who is 83 years old was given a Prolia injection a year ago and is still suffering tremendously from the side effects including osteonecrosis of the jaw. She had to have 4 teeth extracted 3 months after getting the shot and may lose more. She has also lost all feeling in her feet, has sores developing on her body that start up with a pin-prick sensation, high and low blood pressures, poor hearing numbness in extremities... and the list goes on. Have you done anything since this post?
To Sandra Maria: Perhaps you need to contact a lawyer.
I've only had 1 shot of Prolia 3 months ago. Wish I had read all these comments first. I certainly would NOT have taken the Prolia injection, which can last a long time past the 6 month mark. One week after taking Prolia my body started aching, and my bones and muscles hurt like a tooth ache or the flu. If I sat in a chair or laid down for a little while, and then tried to get up, my body would not work. Mornings are worse, they're horrible! It hurts to get out or in bed. You can hardly walk to the bathroom without pain medicine. I have nightmares and very strange dreams. I get embarassed being n public because I can hardly get up from my chair and walk after sitting a while, but the awful pain makes you forget your pride.
My hair has been coming out badly, my hands and fingers go numb and tingly often, I have sores n my nose now, hands peel, left jaw bone pain, (hurts to chew), one of my front teeth broke half off, I itch all over, especially my head, Prolia can cause a deformatity of the jaw bone, and on and on it goes. I will be calling the FDA soon. I'll never get another Prolia injection!!
YES, I have jaw pain from my Prolia injection. I've only had one shot, Dec. 2015. I'm suppose to have another Prolia injection in June, 2016. However, "I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER SHOT OF Prolia!" One week after my first ( and ONLY) injection ) I started hurting severely in all my bones and muscles. My left jaw got so sore I couldn't even chew my food. I have a low immune system, fibro and Polymyalgia, giant cell artery disease, diabetes, glaucoma, a bad heart condition, with 3 heart valve implants, and 3 stents. Prednisone caused a lot of my problems. I had two broken bones and a good front tooth broke half off, in 2015. Prolia can make your teeth loose and deteriate the jaw bone. That scares me! I pray for anyone struggling with this drug. My advice is: Stop taking Prolia injections!
I got my first injection on March 16th 2016. On March 21st I woke with a sore right ear. I feel the soreness is coming from jaw bone. When the soreness was not going away and I developed neck and shoulder problems a week ago I went to see my GP. She gave me drops for my ear and Etoflam to rub to my neck and shoulder. A week later there is no improvement in ear or neck/shoulder. I saw a rheumatologist today who told me my bone condition didn't require prolia. ( I had been on various oral medication for last ten years. Fosamax, Protolis, and more recently Fosavance.) I'm devasted this evening after reading all the reports of side effects from this drug. Can any one advise me on what to do about jaw/ear discomfort. I'm going for Physio on neck/shoulder next week.
In January I had my first Prolia injection. Prior to my appointment I did read about the drug, but was told by the Nurse who gave it to me she hasn't heard of anyone having side effects.
I consider myself a healthy, active 57 year old, but this inject has changed all that. Two weeks after the injection I started to have pain in both legs. I am a runner, and my legs and knees have been giving out. Some days I manage to run/walk through the pain, but some days that is impossible. The pain has continued to move through my hips, buttocks , feet and as of the past 3 days my teeth. I also have dizzy spells. This drug should not be on the market.
I have an appointment with my Doctor next week for blood work, but will inform him there will be no further injections. There has to be something else!
Nothing relieves the pain. I have tried Tylenol, Advil and use a heating pad.
All the information that I have read on Prolia, I see nothing about side effects lessening, or what to do for pain. I will not take anymore Rx
I hope this helps Anyone that has been recommended to get the injection. Please read other sites... lots of side effects
I think that you are wise to not have any more Prolia injections. I had severe jaw pain following the Prolia. And the side effects from it causing bone pain and skin inflammation seem to be permanent as it has been 2 and a half years since my one injection. I really hope that your pain stops soon.
Sara 12345 I am sorry to hear you are still having pain 2.5 years after your first injection. Is there anyone we can reach out to for help... beside our doctor. This is an awful drug... poison!
Thanks so much for your support. I saw not only my endocrinologist about the problems, but doctors in Allergy and Dermatology. No help at all.
So upsetting :(
It is difficult for a healthy person like you to have your health destroyed. Surely after over two years of patients having severe side effects and reporting it to the FDA and doctors, that concern would start an investigation. What bothers me is that women were taken off cheap hormones years ago when there were concerns; however, the $1,500 injection is left on the market and recommended to this day. What does this tell you? Drug companies and doctors are getting rich off the suffering of others. SHAME on them. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. My nightmare lasted over 6 months. I had multiple doctor visits and trip to the hospital. My bone density was even less after the injection. I tried Fosomax, Actenol, Prolia, and Boniva. My bone density never became better. It became much worse. The only time it was better was a year after I stopped taking one of the meds. I have had multiple broken bones...
leading me to believe that the meds caused my bones to become brittle. My diet is a very healthy one. I try to walk when I am able and exercise under the care of a PT.
Sorry to hear that none of the bone meds helped you at all. With my 5 years of Fosamax which helped a little bit at the time, I still went from osteopenia to osteoporosis. Big help that was! But at least your nightmare which sounds worse than mine ended after 6 months. My terrible effects from the Prolia are still there after almost 3 years.
Someone at my doctor's tried to get me to take prolia. No discussion of what is causing my osteoporosis- just straight to prolia!!! I told her forget it! When I saw my regular gyn he said he didn't say anything about prolia but she said he suggested me seeing the other doctor there who treats Osteoporosis. I'm going to a rheumatologist. They will do the proper testing to see what secondary factors may be involved. I'm getting tested for parathyroid involvement.
Ladies and men- you need to be more suspicious and cautious of your wellbeing. These people don't all have your health as they're first priority. They at getting kickbacks for these dangerous drugs and using scare tactics to scare people in to taking them. All of these drugs are dangerous and can cause serious side effects and death. They don't build healthy bone and they compromise your ability to build bone. You are more likely to fracture on these drugs.
Don't become a Guinnea pig for this drug. Thank you so much for your reviews because you confirmed my fears. Prolia is a chemo drug not meant for osteoporosis. All the drug companies care about is making money. They list all the side effects so it's harder for you to sue them if you are harmed but these drugs are approved with terrible side effects because the system is corrupt. Try exercise, diet, calcium from food, vitamin d with k2(doesn't affect blood clotting), walking in early morning sun. Have your bone density results checked to see if they are correct. Ask to be tested for secondary causes of osteoporosis.
To sillys, I totally agree with you about all of these bone building drugs being so bad. Not only do they not build bone right, but all of them have serious possible side effects. Your comment about secondary causes of osteoporosis is a good one. A secondary cause which I didn't see on the websites is that long term depression affects the telomeres which can cause osteoporosis, strokes and heart problems at earlier ages. I am an excellent example of this having had a stroke and osteoporosis in my 50s. Many people are leery of taking a medication for depression, but the damage can be far worse from depression. I suffered from depression many years before any of the newer anti-depressants were available. I tried everything that was available. Thanks for your comment.
I just had my third injection. No problems from any injection at this point. Will have bone density test before the next one..
I have had 2 shots of Prolia and am due foy third, but I have recently found out that this drug stops the body's own bone production. Yes it supposedly strengthens bones, but with old bone cells, resulting in more dense but brittle bones that easily fracture. Also the side effects are legion. I have had low blood calcium, leg and foot cramps, severe constipation, back pain, neck pain, etcv. I would advise anyone contemplating taking this drug to think twice about it.
I will not be having injection number three!
Thanks for your very worthwhile answer.
I had my injection one week ago today very sore muscles and very tited. I am a very active person now find it hard to do sports will this get better soon ?
To Red riding hood,
I would not like to comment on how long your side effects last, but I will say this - I was due for my third shot of Prolia on June 11th and the side effects I have experienced are all still present, despite not having the shot.
I guess everyone is different. Also I have read online that it can take 12 months for the drug to leave your system. I have additionally read that it leaves your body 6 months after your last injection., do there are conflicting answers.
In my experience I would have to say that you will just have to be patient. Easier said than done I know, but you are not alone.
Until Prolia is removed from the market or someone concocts an antidote I guess there will be suffering!
,
Red Riding Hood,
There seem to be all different reactions to Prolia. So sorry to hear about your sore muscles and being tired. Hopefully your symptoms will go away in the next few months. Unfortunately my sore bones and inflamed skin are still affecting me over a year and half later--exactly 19 months later. The bones are slightly better, but still very much a problem. Wish you well.
P.S. to Red Riding,
You may want to look at the response above dated 10/2/2012 which includes "Since then I have experienced bone, joint and muscle pain, vertigo, sores in my mouth, weakness and dead feeling in my legs, and exhaustion." You might try to PQ her to see how she is now.
Sorry, it was dated 10/1/2012.
I am on my second shot and did get a good result on my bone density test 6% increase very encouraging. I just had the injection this week and I have been exhausted. I do recall this last time too. Has anyone else experienced this?
I also have back spasms. Other than that I feel lucky compared to other comments I've read. Some comments are frightening.
I do exercise and I run only thing I've found to help the achy feeling is a hot bath. The exhaustion is the worst for me any body else? I think I will keep on my bones are pretty bad
I recently had my first shot of Prolia, 7 days ago. I am having severe hip pain, headaches and stomach cramps. I feel like I have had had the flu for the past 3 days. When will these symptons go away ???
I just had my 4th Proleria shot & have never had the slightest little problem with it. As far as adverse reactions to it, where I go to get my injection, the nurse always makes me sit there & listen to her as she reads & talks to me about the adverse reactions, even when I tell her I've heard it all before. I am really sorry for those of you that have had problems with this drug.
I had prolija inyección and i do not Have Anaya problemas, befo re alendronic ácido, horrible and grave me horrible país, i prolia is better that bisofosfatos
I had prolija inyección and i do not Have Anaya problemas, befo re alendronic ácido, horrible and grave me horrible país, i prolia is better that bisofosfatos
What is bisofosfatos?
I seem to have permanent skin and bone pain from the Prolia injection. It should have left my system long ago, but hasn't. My endocrinologist spent 20 minutes during my appointment searching the internet for when the side effects go away and never found anything. Side effects are one thing, PERMANENT ones are another.
Have your side effects gone away yet? I had the Prolia injected last fall and was due for another shot in April. It's been out of my system since April yet I am still experiencing some side effects.
I've been on prolea for the last year and a half. that's 3 injections and I have had no side effects. Check on the label for warning signs and see what that might have.
Mary
You must be the world's luckiest person. Prolia should be banned
You must be the world's luckiest person. Prolia should be banned
I agree. I just relieved my invoice from the insurance company... not only does this injection cause terrible joint pain but it cost nearly $1500.00 It should not be. On the market!
I received EOB from my insurance company, Prolia was listed as chemotherapy and was quite costly. I have had nothing but indigestion, eczema, constipation, aches and pains in my bones, my ankles swelled . When I told my Dr., she not from from Prolia go to GP. When I went to GP he said he would have never given me any of these meds. I tried Fosamax, Boniva and Prolia. One year and half of my life has had no quality at all. I am starting 4 month of second shot and I am done, done, done
I am sorry to hear about your problems. I don't understand why you would go for a second shot when you've had so much pain from them. In my case, just one Prolia injection has given me bone pain and severe skin inflammation. I can't wear my CPAP mask which is very necessary. I can no longer pet my cats which now feels like fiberglass. I can no longer sit on even soft chairs without discomfort to my bun bones. I have to take a gel pillow with me to restaurants because otherwise I can't sit on harder surfaces. I have to pad my body at night due to my bone pain. I can no longer wear wool socks, hats and gloves. And on and on. Nothing compared to the pain that you have suffered from. You should file a Mediwatch report at the FDA website about your problems with Prolia. I did. I wish you better days.
And my one Prolia injection was over 3 and a half years ago.
Sara, I just listened to my Doctor, stupidly, but originally I just thought it was from other things and then after 2nd shot it was way worse right from the first day of shot and then I started finding all the websites from other people who had the same things I was going through and it hit me, it was all from these meds. I hope I did not cause myself anymore damage. When I went to GP and he said that to me , that he would never have given me the shot, I felt so betrayed by my other Dr. I also went to a seminar on osteoporosis and that speaker said if you don't have bad osteoporosis you should not be on this drug. I was on chemo already for Breast Cancer and now they are giving us more poison it is just beyond me.
Sorry not to get back to you sooner. When I get feedback about a new comment, it gives absolutely no information about where it is or after how many comments. It just states that there is a new comment. I have complained, but apparently they can't fix the problem. Anyway I am sorry to hear about your problems with Prolia. I would not recommend it to anyone including those with osteoporosis which I have. The medical problems that I’ve had have been devastating from just one injection over 3 ½ years ago. And the bone that it builds back is not strong like your regular bone. My mother had bad osteoporosis, but was very careful about what she did and never broke a bone. So that’s what I am now going to do. You didn’t say what your Prolia problems were, but I hope that they go away soon. Also I do wish you well with your chemotherapy.
I have been on Prolia for over 3 years & have not had one single problem. During this time I've also had a lot of dental work done & we had no problems with my bones or jaw.
You are lucky. I feel like I’ve been in a car accident my body pain is so severe. I will never take this again!
To Ander,
With all the comments on these answers I am afraid that you will never find yet another comment. Regarding the mouth sores, in addition to the tea tree oil I posted previously, I have noticed that if I eat anything that is the slightest bit acidic, such as a raw tomato or salad dressing, I get instant sores in my mouth. So that may help you to avoid more sores. Never before have I had this problem before the Prolia.
What did u say previously about tea tree oil? I didn't see it. I started prolia last year, noticed sores in my mouth but no explanations were given to me & a cut on outside of mouth that won't heal. I have excessive hunger & weight gain which dr. said I'm older (54) & watch what I eat & exercise & didn't mention side effects of prolia. I stay so tired & can dose off anytime even at work or driving. I have tests run because of back pain but didn't know prolia could add to it. It hurts so bad. When asked side effects to dr. Of drug they said don't worry it's hardly none & less than Bonita which I didn't have any problems with it & my bones didn't hurt. When I went for 3rd prolia shot my renal functions was bad & they made me wait before I could take it about 3 weeks.
U have any problems like this? And dhat does tea tree oil do? I bought some yo use for back of grand kids heads to put a dab on every morning it's suppose to deter lice. It's worked. I had my head start itching bad the last few weeks after shot & thought I had Lice ( but didn't) & thought I was going to have to use it. Also my hands r so numb of the mornings they feel like their swelled double & I can't turn on my bedside lamp.
My parathyroid levels went sky high as a direct result of the Prolia. Finally about 9 months later, after taking high doses of Vitamin D, the levels finally went back to normal, but no renal problems which I already have kidney failure. When you talk about how sleepy you are, you should inquire about a sleep study. It could be that you have sleep apnea.
The Prolia has given me terrific bone pain and bruising even from lying on a pillow for 4 days straight after a bad spinal tap where I couldn't lift my head. This was not listed as a side effect and I reported it to the FDA who wrote me back saying that they would pay more attention if they got other similar complaints. So I urge you to go online and report it too.
In my opinion Consumers Reports is right that the high risk with these bone medications does not warrant the minimal benefit of them. I took Fosamax for over 5 years and still got osteoporosis. And now it is almost a year and a half since the Prolia that I have had the terrible bone and skin problems.
This is what I wrote above. These sores were NOT cold sores or herpes which I've had problems with in the past--unrelated to the Prolia injection.
"When I complained about the mouth sores to my doctor, she suggested gargling with salt water. I took a tiny amount of tea tree oil on a Q-tip to treat sores on both sides of my mouth. It healed them both overnight. Now a few days later, I need to use it again. This amount of sores never happened to me before Prolia. A friend of mine said that she gargled with a tiny amount of tea tree oil in some water which cleared inside her mouth of sores, but don't know how safe it is. But if you're really suffering, you may want to try it. Just use a tiny amount the first time. I would say to dip the Q-tip into the tea tree oil, then dip the Q-tip into an amount of water. Good luck."
to fpp2011 - Have you shared with your brothers this and other web sites where women are reporting the adverse reactions to Prolia? Do your brothers really want to take the chance of jeopardizing their mother's health? Do they know about the adverse reactions women are having? Perhaps you could show them a printout of what has happened to others. Yes, some folks now appear to have no adverse reactions, but what is the shot doing besides altering bones? If I am dealing with bone and joint pain, digestive problems, a constant itch, jaw pain, nausea off and on, vertigo, and overwhelming exhaustion, what will happen next? If it can do this much to my body, what is it doing that I am not experiencing. What is it destroying? What is it altering?
What people need to understand is how research is conducted and who paid for it. I will say it again, how can someone on a placebo suffer this much? If the doctors prescribing this, the drug companies selling this and the drug reps pushing this, had to take this shot or have a family member take it, after only a few had these reactions, this drug - money making or not, would go off the market.
