Has anyone used Ambien to help nerve pain? I use it and it helps for several hours?

I’ve had muscle pain and nerve pain my whole life all over my body, so much that I seem to have a resting grimace face! Headaches, muscle pain, abdominal back and nausea all go away when I take 5 mg of ambien. It works like a miracle since nothing else not even ibuprofen can touch some of the intense pain I feel and even now with critical acute pain from ovarian cysts that i am unable to bear just got relieved with ambien. When i try to get more from my doctor she resists me. I’ve had very intense pain for one week and used my ambien to help get me through the day and now i am short 3 days pills and i’m still experiencing pain every day. the ambien only last about 4 hours. i need to talk to my doctor about this. it is so effective and never makes me feel groggy or druggy or sick like other medications. it’s very well tolerated. i wish i could make her listen and listen to all your stories too.

Ironically I attribute my nerve pain to Ambien. I was taking it for sleep and within a month or so began developing nerve damage symptoms. My nerve pain kept getting worse in my feet. Went to every type of doctor, tried every treatment. Sure enough, Ambien lists peripheral neuropathy as a side effect, as does crestor, another drug I was on. I quit both and the pain did not progress, but has not gotten any better either. I stopped the gabapentin and am currently trying metanx.

I've been getting serious neuropathic pain from my waist down for the last 3 months and I'm about to see the neurologist for it finally. I've noticed that every night I lay in bed for about an hour with my legs and body burning and then I take half of my 10mg Ambien, been taking these for 22 years to sleep, and in about 30 minutes the pain is amazingly diminished. I decided to Google this and found this forum! As of yet I haven't tried any other medications but amitriptyline, and gabapentin were recommended but the side effects list scares me. I'm going to talk to the neurologist about this helpful side effect of Ambien.

Some patients get relief from RSD type pain with mega doses of Ambien, 100 mg per day or more. One 10 mg puts me out for 10 hrs but these patients experience little or no drowsiness.

I take Ambien(Zolpidem) CR 12.5 mg, have for approximately 6 years. I've noticed it not only relieves my sciatica pain, but also acts as an antidepressant.
Whoever said "Ambien is for insomnia only" or whatever I guess doesn't realize that MANY medications are prescribed for conditions other than what the fda guidelines suggest. Its called off- label use, and doctors are totally allowed to do it.

I have pretty bad pack problems. I have been on PK for 3 years (Lori tab 7.5) and Ambiene for about 5. My back has been getting the better of me l, I have missed a tone of work and am afraid I’m at the end of my career. I just had a nerve burn done on my back 2 weeks ago and it seems to be getting a lot worse?? The only thing getting me through has been my ambien. I’m confuseed and do not want to tell my doctors as I’m sure they think I’m looking for drugs. I’m so afraid the docs are going to take away the little help I have that I don’t want to seem crazy, but this is real and my life is changing rapidly as my pain gets worse??? Why is ambien the only thing that has helped me.

I have had two back surgeries live in pain everyday bad nerve pain I also have trouble sleeping. Ambien is the only thing that helps I get 5-6 hours of sleep.

I have ulnar nerve compression in both arms, and median nerve compression in my right hand. I am looking into getting surgery to correct the problem, rather than to medicate it. Hopefully it will be successful.

With all that said I have recently noticed an unusual phenomenon: at night when I take my Ambien for sleep, the neuropathy caused by the compression completely goes away. It's amazing!

I've never tried using the drug during the day. I'm not sure that I will. But I sure look forward to it causing this effect at night.

I have tried Lyrica, meloxicam and tramadol. Ambien is the only thing that completely gets rid of the pain.

I think it must be more than a muscle relaxant or GABA potentiating effect, because I also take Klonopin and it does not do anything for the neuropathy.

Because I thought I might be imagining the effect, I decided to Google it and have found several conversations on several different sites and which others are experiencing the same thing.

My 22 yr old son was in an extremely bad motorcycle accident. His hand was actually off and it was reattached. I cant describe the nerve pain that he is constantly in and was told he will always have it. He has been on all of the medications that are supposed to calm it but nothing seems to work because of the severity of the nerve damage.

I then gave him a 10mg ambien and to our surprise, it eased the nerve pain to the point of being tolerable. It also seems to last longer and is the best relief he has had outside of oxicodone's and oxicontin. I wish they were able to pinpoint what it is within the pill that has all of these other wonderful side effects of nerve/brain injury/pain.

I've got major back problems that effect how I walk, sit stand, everything really. I can only maintain correct posture for moments, and certain muscles get paralyzed from time to time.
