For Bipolar Disorder "After horrible experiences with a multitude of different antidepressants, the realization came upon me that I was possibly bipolar due to a prolonged episode of what I thought could be mania. Well, my psychiatrist put me on Geodon (40 mg in the evening). So far, it's been 2 months and I have had not one depressive or manic episode during this time. The first 2 or 3 days of taking the drug were awful, I had terrible brain fog and just felt totally whacked out, but that feeling disappeared after just a few days, so I can't complain too much. I'm starting to take an additional 20 mg in the morning to hopefully curb some of my anxiety, so we'll see how that goes. As far as psych meds go, this one has reigned far superior so far!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for several months now and I have to say the side effects that bother me the most is being TIRED/EXHAUSTION and EXTREME WEAKNESS!! Sometimes it makes me so tired I literally just can't do the day. It is like my whole body feels like I'm surrounded by sand, but so far, this is the only drug that has helped stabilize my mood and helps me have a more positive outlook without putting so much effort into it. It has helped my paranoia and suicidal ideation A LITTLE BIT. I can definitely notice a difference when it starts to wear off. I could use a higher dose but I absolutely can not go up because of how tired n weak it make me. I have gained weight but that's only because I'm SO tired that just going to work takes all I have :("

For Bipolar Disorder "Best med I've been on for my bipolar. I also take buspirone and trazodone for sleep. I've been bipolar since 21, I think I have taken every drug there is for this illness. And since my doctor has put me on these drugs, I'm finally stable for once in my life."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon has worked great for my bipolar. I do not struggle with mania symptoms anymore. My thoughts are more clear and feel more stable than I ever have. I take it at night to avoid the heavy fatigue that occurred when I took it during the day. I had some weight gain, but it is worth the quality of life I now have."

For Bipolar Disorder "Geodon has been a lifesaver. It took a while to get the right dose and know when to take it (AM versus PM), but I am doing great now. I take it in the evening and still have morning grogginess after several months. My doctor prescribed Provigil, which really helps (although costly). I take the Geodon in conjunction with Lamictal. I have less agitation and find (at least my family finds) that I am much less hostile than before. Do be careful in the heat, as I got very sick from overheating, and follow instructions and do not drink alcohol. One piña colada felt like a whole case of beer."

For Bipolar Disorder "This drug is great. I have been more stable than ever since I started taking it. I have to take it at night though because it makes me super sleepy if I take it during the day. I can hardly sleep and get manic if I don't take it for a while. I don't get any side effects either. I was taking two 80 mg pills at night, but now I only take two 60 mg pills. I lost weight while on this medication. Sleepiness is horrible if I take it during the day. I, at one point, was taking 80 mg twice per day, but I almost got fired! I would fall asleep at work. It was uncontrollable sleepiness. No matter what I did to stay awake, I couldn't. Two 80 mg at night made me sleep until real late, so that's why I take two 60 mg pills at night. Haven't been manic."

For Bipolar Disorder "For bipolar. This medicine was very dangerous to me. Within the first 2 weeks of being on 30 mg twice a day, I had 2 seizures. Never have had a seizure in my 45 years of living. Had very bad hallucinations, rapid eye movement during the day, and was worse after any caffeine or cigarettes. Had an episode while driving and could not control my actions, went off the road, through a ditch and into a tree. 2 fractured vertebrae, many bruises, concussion. Stopped taking this drug. Thankfully, I didn't kill anyone or myself. Finally, 2 weeks after I stopped taking it, I am finally getting a clear head. But still in pain from the accident! Would NOT recommend this junk for anyone!!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been on Geodon for several years now. After trying seemingly every medication as well as ECT, this combined with Lamictal finally seemed to even my bipolar out. However, it's not perfect and I still have periods of mania and depression when I mess with my dose. I'm currently thinking about switching antipsychotics, mostly because of the horrible withdrawal symptoms I get each morning and night before my next dose. Mostly bad nausea and vomiting almost every day. I also go through periods where I literally cannot stay awake because of this medication (falling asleep in the hallways of my college classes, and while driving). Overall, it has helped me tremendously but the combination of side effects, withdrawals, and still having manic symptoms is causing me to think about other options."

For Schizophrenia "I am only on day 3. I have to say I like it. I do not hear or see voices or people. I have a wild thought process that can imagine anything and make it real in my own mind. That is under control almost completely, which is AMAZING! Living in my head without this medicine was a nightmare. 60 mg before bed did not work for me. I couldn't sleep. So, I now take it in the morning. I also have A.D.D. (no medication for A.D.D. though). Just the Geodon and Topamax. It works perfect for me. Weight gain was a BIG problem on the other medicine they tried, so far I think I have lost, I know I have not gained, which is very important to me. I had gained 14 pounds in 3 weeks on the other medication (that's a lot of weight really fast). No jaw issues or shaking."

For Bipolar Disorder "I take one 20 mg capsule every night. I have borderline personality disorder. Before starting this I never slept and this medication helps me sleep. I had some side effects when I started taking it. I was sick to my stomach, throwing up and wasn't able to keep any food down. This lasted a bit over two weeks. I've been on this medication for a few months now and it's helped me with mood and sleep. I take Prozac 40mg as well."

For Schizophrenia "Antipsychotic weight gain is an absolute nightmare. I was on Risperdal and it made me gain twenty pounds, at first I didn’t know what was going on. I thought I was just getting old. Then I got up to 160 pounds without even eating. This med made it so I can’t pee hardly at all, so if I just want to drink diet pepsi to lose weight I have to deal with water weight. I mean just how big am I supposed to get? I have to be on this stuff for life and I’m gaining about 2 to 3 pounds a week without even eating. How many times am I supposed to go jean shopping for bigger sizes? And I can’t say I trust Geodon much more. I’ve been on it for a month now, so far I’ve lost five pounds by just starving myself as usual. It works for my voices but I can’t even get off the stuff If I wanted too because the withdrawal gives me terrible insomnia. So, basically they’ve got you for life and your going to be fat."

For Bipolar Disorder "I have tried a few different antipsychotics and find Geodon to be far and away the best. Risperdal worked as an antipsychotic, but it made the depression worse and made me gain 25-30 lbs. So far, I have had no side effects with Geodon. I think I have found a winner."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "Tried 2 others with bad side effects. I've just switched to the above & no constipation, quiet in my head no cravings or dry mouth. Think I sneeze a bit & my sinuses are clearer. Bit of runny nose but nothing to complain about. Within 2.5hrs I'm slowly drifting into great sleep & can wake up with no alarm feeling very refreshed & energized. I'm really hoping it continues like this as its perfect for me.on 20mg at night. I've got my fingers crossed."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "The doctors diagnosed me with social anxiety, depression, and minor schizoaffective symptoms. The first 2 days of taking this, I felt great, I felt like I could do anything, and I was really happy. I would rate this medicine higher if this continued for the entire duration of my taking it. However, by the end of the first week, I was severely delusional, to the point where I didn't even notice it. At the end of week 2, I didn't even know who I was, I thought I was turning into animals, and I had no perception of time. A good way to explain it was the worst week-long trip ever. I first noticed I was not me when the letters on my phone made no sense. I cold turkey'd it, and I experienced hypertension, irregular heartbeats, and so much more."

For Bipolar Disorder "I had no idea that I was bipolar until a psychiatrist diagnosed me. I take 20 mg in the AM and 60 mg in the PM, and I feel so much better about my life. I can focus and sleep again. The best part of it has been the feeling of 'normalcy' I now have."

For Bipolar Disorder "I've been taking Geodon for 8-9 years after a horrible experience with Zyprexa and Seroquel. Geodon has been a lifesaver for me. It has changed my life completely. It gave me my life back when everyone gave up hope. It stabilized me 100%. If you knew me 10 years ago, you would swear I was a different person. Nobody I have met over the last 8 years has any idea that I suffer from mental illness at all. It works that well. I still suffer from morning drowsiness. It's still difficult for me to wake up early. I take 60 mg 2 times a day, and it works perfectly for me."

For Bipolar Disorder "I started taking Geodon back in May or June of 2013. It worked well enough but made me indifferent. Yes, it did help me get out of an incredibly long and terrible state of depression, but I lost the ability to feel anything at all. My legs would become restless (most often at night), and I was always exhausted. I would even doze off or completely fall asleep at work. I stayed on it for a few months, then stopped taking it when I started a hypomanic phase."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I have been taking Geodon almost a year now for schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type. I always wondered why my doctor never prescribed me anything for bipolar mania and depression, but it turns out that Geodon is used for this. I can say that it has helped me tremendously. Manias are hardly there anymore, and my sexual appetite has decreased. My wants and needs to shop in excess are almost gone. I do have to say, though, that I have major erectile dysfunction. I take 80 milligrams twice a day with food, very important, or it doesn't absorb."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I take this for multiple things. I have been on it for a week. It seemed to work at first, but now I can't sleep, seeing and hearing worse. My hands twitch a lot. I'm a non-smoker that has the cravings to smoke (not good at all!). Hopefully, when I call the doctor's office, they change this med. I've been on Abilify and lithium with no problems at all, but the new doctor wanted to try something new. Well, I don't like it. My 12-year-old son thinks I've lost my marbles, as he calls it. Not cool if my son can notice a difference!"

For Bipolar Disorder "I took this medication for about 5 days and from the start I knew something was wrong. I remember hallucinating in the dark and the very next day I went manic. I had acid reflux issues and it felt so bad that I had a hard time breathing. I passed out and was taken to the ER. Withdrawal was terrible in fact I'm still going through it. I have had the worst anxiety of my life. My delusional beliefs were at an extreme high and I was so scared that I would break out crying. Every one of my worst thoughts was greatly emphasized on this med. I would have anxiety attacks and feel like I had to puke. I would not recommend this medication, TO ANYONE."

For Schizoaffective Disorder "I have been using Geodon for three and a half years. It has been a very good medication for my mental health symptoms, and for that, I am grateful. I do have some side-effect issues, however. I get something akin to restless leg syndrome that is especially bad at night when I am lying down, trying to fall asleep. I have taken Mirapex for this and also Cogentin. Both clear up 90% of my discomfort, and the last ten percent is tolerable. I have some facial contortions sometimes, like a feeling that I have to make a strange face to relieve tension in my facial muscles, but that is mostly tolerable also. I do know that withdrawal from Geodon can be extremely uncomfortable, so don't stop suddenly. Never let yourself run out of medicine."

For Schizophrenia "Honestly, this medication does a really good job of nipping hallucinations in the bud. It took over a week for the medicine to really work for me, though. The only complaint I have is the fact that this medication makes you so, so tired. It also changes your mood so that I don’t feel like me when I take Geodon. But, it does what it’s supposed to do so I can’t complain too much."
