"Alesse was the first birth control I ever took. I was 18 and had been having horrible periods. Constant, painful cramps and heavy flow. My gynecologist suggested Alesse to make my period lighter. I bled for over a month!!! Not spotting. Full on heavy bleeding with horrible cramps. I eventually stopped and decided to deal with my period. At least I knew when it would end."

"My periods have been getting very heavy as I've been getting older (just turned 40). I was told to start the pack on The Sunday I started my period, so was on my 3rd day. Every day since then I've been bleeding various amounts, and some days have had mild cramps. Hoping by the second trial pack this stops. 1 week of heavy period is better than everyday of the month bleeding. My libido is lower, but not sure if that's the medicine or the fact I'm bleeding daily :("

"My wife was always getting abnormal, heavy periods with pain, went to many doctors everyone had their own views, been through many types of ultrasounds, physical exams, blood tests, but no use and no one was able to diagnose problem until she was prescribed to take birth control pill 'Alesse'. Had few problems with the side effects in the beginning and after the first cycle, but its getting a lot better now except for little mode swings. She is not bleeding anymore and all those unknown cramps and whatnot are gone. I guess every contraceptive pill is not for everyone, if one does not suit you then try some other type. These reviews helps a lot, please keep sharing. "

"I started to take Alesse a little over 2 month ago and my period has not stopped! The breakthrough bleeding is ruining my life. Every single day I have what is like morning sickness, breast tenderness and feel sick to my stomach. GET OFF THIS PILL. oh and it caused me to breakout!"

"I've been using Alesse 28 for a little over a year now and it's my first birth control pill! I use it mainly for period regulation since my period wouldn't come 6 months at a time and for birth control (10/10 effective when used properly). When I first started taking Alesse, my abdominal region felt a bit uncomfortable, but within a matter of about 2 weeks it went away. Some symptoms I've taken notice of was the mild mood swings I'd have once in a while and a little bit of dizziness. Now, the abdominal pain and dizziness I seem to have experienced a year ago has subsided, but the mild mood swings are still apparent and prevalent. I have no consistent weight loss or weight gain, acne, hair loss or hair growth, or loss of a sex drive."

"I started taking this medicine in the beginning of Nov.2011, mainly to reduce my hormonal acne and to regulate my period. At the end of that same month, I got my period and surprisingly the cramps were not severe. In fact, I had never had such a peaceful period in a long time. Since then, my periods have been painless. :) Mid December, I noticed that the severity of my acne had diminished and my skin had started to clear. End of Jan. 2012, I got 5 painful cysts on my face. I was extremely upset, but I decided to be patient and stick with it. My patience paid off. It is end of February 2012 and my face looks way better. I haven't had any cysts since then. As for the side effects, just nausea when medicine is taken on an empty stomach. I LOVE IT."

"I was prescribed this pill by my primary care physician. I complained to her about heavy/painful periods and bad acne, and just in general wanted to be on a birth control pill. Because Alesse is such a low dosage, she thought it would be good to start me on. If you have a history of bad acne or are wanting a pill to HELP with clearing up acne, do not take this pill. It is not good for acne. I have a history of acne and mine worsened a lot (tons of breakouts). However, I didn’t experience any other negative side effects; my periods were light & virtually painless. My friend is currently on this pill and she loves it—though she’s always had clear skin and has no complaints. I think it largely depends on the person. In all other ways it’s good, with minimal side effects. Just remember to give it a fair try; Side effects may subside after 3-6 months, and 1 month or less isn’t enough time to determine your body’s response to a Bc pill."

"I started taking Alesse about 4 months ago and it is the first BC I've been on. I used to get very bad period cramps, to the point where I could barely function, and so far the pill has helped quite a bit. On the pill, my period lasts only 4 days long and the cramps are not nearly as bad as they used to be. I have not had any side effects at all and overall it has been very effective."

"This garbage pill turned me into a robot. I seriously had zero emotions and cared about nothing. I was only on it for a month but I'm still dealing with the acne it gave me all over my cheeks. I regret taking this pill so much. If you don't want extra body hair or deal with acne, choose a less androgenic pill. Otherwise, it didn't have any side effects besides body hair growth in places men usually have it, and acne all over the lower part of my face."

"This has been a complete nightmare. I always have been sensitive to hormonal birth control methods, so that is why my doctor prescribed Alesse. First month was fine. I was constantly hungry and my boobs hurt, but it was manageable. Now, I barely finished the second pack and I have to stop because of my moods. I gained at least 5 pounds. I'm always hungry. My breasts hurt like anything. I had 2 weeks of breakthrough bleeding. The cherry on top of the cake : A yeast infection! Yay! So no more poison for me. Never again."

"I just started this birth control to help my heavy flow and period cramps and when I began my pack, I was happy with the results because I had less acne and I never felt achy or crampy. As soon as I started the sugar pills, I got my period and my cramps continued to be as bad as they were before. Although my flow wasn't as heavy, my cramps were bad enough that I had to miss school and my extracurricular activities."

"This was for my cycle regulation. It was okay until my hair started shedding. Every time I ran my hand through it would come out with 5-7 hairs, bulb and all. My hairdresser noticed there was excessive shedding in the brush when I went, and I'm still sweeping up hairs all over my apartment, and picking them off everything. I also felt angrier and my anxiety intensified in the fourth month to the point where I couldn't control it, so I switched off. There was no weight gain, breast growth, etc, but it also didn't make my periods any less painful and they were still very heavy. I spotted the full first month, but it stopped in the second. My sex drive was increased, I had a breakout of a few cystic acne lesions in the third month. (Which was awful, because I never get acne) and it left some hyperpigmentation scarring. I wouldn't go back on it. Maybe it will work for some, I must just be sensitive to the progestin used in Alesse."

"I developed irregular periods with heavy flows, clots, gushing, complete nightmare. It happened in my 20s, again in 30s and now in 40s. I went on the pill after each time to regulate my period and Alesse worked well. I went off it to have babies and just to avoid the nuisance of being on a drug. But bad periods forced me back on. I don't think I had any negative side effects. Mood/weight/hair etc, nothing changed. I did start to develop migraines but I had been on Alesse for years at that point so I can't blame it. I would take it continuously and avoid having a period for up to 6 weeks (but then it would start on its own). I had to take it strictly at the same time every day or spotting might occur. Periods lighter and manageable. I had a blood clot a few months ago so had to quit Alesse, with regret. Nightmare periods are back and I'm going to try the mini pill. Thanks all for sharing your experiences. I wanted to share that Alesse did work beautifully for me and I hope it helps you."

"Just finished first pack of Alesse 28 and have been bleeding for a month. I was prescribed this pill to help regulate my period through perimenopause. Been taking birth control pills on and off for last 25 years and never had side effects. Prior to Alesse, my periods were irregular but didn’t have any breakthrough bleeding. Will try to get through the next 2 packs but bleeding continues I will have to discontinue Alesse."
