Along with its needed effects, edaravone (the active ingredient contained in Radicava) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Applies to edaravone: intravenous solution, oral suspension.

General

The most common adverse reactions are contusion, gait disturbance, and headache.[Ref]

Dermatologic

Very common (10% or more): Contusion (up to 15%)

Common (1% to 10%): Dermatitis, eczema, tinea infection, rash, erythema[Ref]

Gastrointestinal

Common (1% to 10%): Nausea[Ref]

Hypersensitivity

Postmarketing reports: Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis[Ref]

Musculoskeletal

Common (1% to 10%): Ligament sprain[Ref]

Nervous system

Very common (10% or more): Gait disturbance (up to 13%), headache (up to 10%)[Ref]

Other

Common (1% to 10%): Excoriation[Ref]

Renal

Common (1% to 10%): Glycosuria[Ref]

Respiratory

Common (1% to 10%): Respiratory failure/respiratory disorder/hypoxia, upper respiratory tract inflammation, upper respiratory tract infection[Ref]
