Using sodium oxybate together with dexmedeTOMIDine is not recommended. Combining these medications can significantly increase the risk of serious side effects such as respiratory depression, low blood pressure, fainting, coma, and even death. You should avoid the use of alcohol while being treated with either of these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how your medications affect you, and do not exceed the dosage or frequency of use prescribed by your doctor. For sodium oxybate, the manufacturer recommends specifically that you not drive a car, operate machinery, or perform other hazardous activities for at least 6 hours after taking a dose. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food may interfere with the absorption of sodium oxybate. You should wait at least 2 hours after eating before you take the first dose. Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it may add to the central nervous system effects of sodium oxybate and increase the risk of serious side effects such as respiratory depression, low blood pressure, fainting, coma, and even death. Do not drive, operate machinery, or perform other hazardous activities for at least six hours after taking sodium oxybate and until you know how the medication affects you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
dexmedeTOMIDine food

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of dexmedeTOMIDine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with dexmedeTOMIDine. Do not use more than the recommended dose of dexmedeTOMIDine, and avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.
