MONITOR: Methylphenidate and other derivative amphetamines may decrease the therapeutic effects of antihypertensive drugs or agents with hypotensive properties. According to serdexmethylphenidate label information, CNS stimulants cause a mean increase in blood pressure of approximately 2 to 4 mmHg and a mean increase in heart rate of approximately 3 to 6 beats per minute. MANAGEMENT: Caution and monitoring of blood pressure is recommended if methylphenidate, dexmethylphenidate or serdexmethylphenidate are administered with antihypertensives agents such as: potassium-sparing and thiazide diuretics, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), beta blockers or centrally acting alpha-2 receptor agonists. The dosage of the antihypertensive drug should be adjusted as needed.

Do not use alcohol or medications that contain alcohol while you are receiving treatment with methylphenidate. This may increase nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, anxiety, depression, and seizures. In addition, with certain long-acting forms of methylphenidate, alcohol can cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. High blood levels of the drug may increase the risk of side effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
