Drug Interaction Report
4 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Alka-Seltzer PM (calcium phosphate, tribasic / melatonin)
- olaparib
Interactions between your drugs
melatonin olaparib
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer PM (calcium phosphate, tribasic / melatonin), olaparib
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
MONITOR: Coadministration with CYP450 1A2 inducers may decrease the plasma concentrations and therapeutic effects of melatonin. The proposed mechanism is increased melatonin clearance due to induction of CYP450 1A2. However, clinical data are lacking.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if melatonin is used concomitantly with drugs that are inducers of CYP450 1A2. Dosage adjustments may be considered whenever CYP450 1A2 inducers are added to or withdrawn from therapy with melatonin.
Drug and food interactions
olaparib food
Applies to: olaparib
Do not consume grapefruit, grapefruit juice, or Seville oranges during treatment with olaparib. Doing so can significantly increase the blood levels of olaparib and increase the risk and/or severity of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or discomfort, lung problems, and impaired bone marrow function resulting in low numbers of different types of blood cells. You may also be more likely to develop anemia, bleeding problems, or infections due to low blood cell counts. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
calcium phosphate, tribasic food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer PM (calcium phosphate, tribasic / melatonin)
Calcium absorption may be increased by taking it with food. However, foods high in oxalic acid (spinach or rhubarb), or phytic acid (bran and whole grains) may decrease calcium absorption. Calcium may be taken with food to increase absorption. Consider spacing calcium administration for at least 2 hours before or after consuming foods high in oxalic acid or phytic acid. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
melatonin food
Applies to: Alka-Seltzer PM (calcium phosphate, tribasic / melatonin)
Both smoking and excessive caffeine consumption can alter the blood levels of melatonin, which may affect the dosing. Tobacco smoking reduces, while caffeine increases melatonin blood levels. If you start smoking or undergo smoking cessation, your doctor may need to adjust the dose of melatonin. In addition, alcohol may reduce the effect of melatonin on sleep. It is best to avoid alcohol consumption during melatonin therapy. Talk to a healthcare professional if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug Interaction Classification
Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
