Applies to: neomycin, penicillin v potassium
MONITOR: Limited data suggest that concomitant administration of oral neomycin with oral penicillin may reduce serum concentrations of penicillin. The proposed mechanism is neomycin-induced malabsorption. The clinical significance is unknown.
MANAGEMENT: It may be advisable to monitor patients for reduced penicillin efficacy, consider a different oral antibiotic, or consider administering parenteral penicillin.
