Drug Interaction Report

Antibiotics such as lomefloxacin may reduce the effects of estradiol in some women. If you are using estradiol for birth control, you may be at increased risk for pregnancy or breakthrough bleeding. Be sure to alert your doctor if you are having any vomiting and/or diarrhea as this too can impact how well estradiol works. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to determine if you should use an alternative or additional form of birth control during or after treatment with lomefloxacin. In addition, some birth control preparations may include "placebo" non-hormonal pills that contain iron. If you are taking these iron-containing pills during treatment with lomefloxacin, you should separate the dosing times by several hours so that the iron does not interfere with absorption of the antibiotic. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for information on when best to take these medications. If you are using estradiol for a purpose other than birth control, please let your doctor know if you have any questions or notice any changes in how well estradiol is working. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Lomefloxacin and multivitamin with minerals should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain magnesium, aluminum, calcium, iron, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of lomefloxacin into the bloodstream and reduce its effectiveness. If possible, it may be best to avoid taking multivitamin with minerals while you are being treated with lomefloxacin. Otherwise, lomefloxacin should be taken 2 to 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after a multivitamin with minerals dose, lomefloxacin should be taken at least 2 hours before and not less than 6 hours after Suprep Bowel Prep (magnesium/potassium/sodium sulfates), or lomefloxacin and multivitamin with minerals should be taken as directed by your healthcare provider. Talk to your healthcare provider if you are unsure whether your medications contain something that could potentially interact or if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
