For Asthma "I'm using self-prescribed short courses of prednisone (40mg a day for 2-5 days) to control mild asthma symptoms when inhalers were not doing the job. The prednisone brings me back to feeling normal very quickly. Since doctors are not too interested in using it like this though."

For Fibromyalgia "Omg, I can't believe what I'm reading. I've been treated for fibromyalgia for 3 years, and all the meds did nothing. I continued because I hoped one day it would start to work. I got a problem with my eye, and it's like a spider's web. I went to the hospital, who gave me this steroid drop to reduce this. Well, within 9 hours, I felt like I could run around the block. I could bend, lift, bake, cook, clean, and be pain-free. I stopped all meds for fibromyalgia and used the drops for a week. The doctor didn't know any connection. Anyway, 6 months later, and I'm starting to go downhill again, the pains are driving me crazy. (I still have the black ring in my eye.) My eye consultant rang me while I was in lockdown, and I told him that I still have the ring I can see. He prescribed me some more drops, and what do you know? 7 drops later, the pains are easing. My doctor won't listen to me at all, they work."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "Have RA since 2016. Have been on every biologic under the sun. Currently on methotrexate and new biologic Lorenzia for 6 months. The only thing that has worked like magic is prednisone. Currently taking 40 mg a day. Titrating down to 20 mg by reducing my 5 mg per week, then the flares come back with a vengeance. Multiple joints affected with severe swelling and stabbing pain. No real side effects for me other than increased blood sugar, which I manage with insulin and a slight touch of insomnia. Quality of life is paramount, not longevity of life. No real point in living an extra ten years if pain is completely debilitating. I choose less pain and shorter life. We all have to die eventually, no? I'm 58, by the way. Lived a good full life. I'm ready for the next adventure. Sick of being in pain all the time. Nuff said."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I had a full bone scan and found arthritis in almost every joint, the worst being knee, wrists, fingers, feet, and neck. I was prescribed Prednisone, and within 1-2 days they worked. However, one of the side effects is weight gain. I do recommend them if you don't mind putting on a lot of weight. I didn't stay on them because of this but have taken full-strength Glucosamine every day for years. I think over time they have gradually repaired some damage to the joints. A lot of times I could feel an attack of arthritis coming on, I would feel extremely tired, words even slurred so I would take 1/2 to 1 Prednisone, no pain the next day."

For Bursitis "I have bursitis on my hip. Motrin and Aleve didn't help. During the first 12 hours, the pain decreased by 50%, with an 80% decrease in 24 hours, and no pain in 36 hours. I reduced the dosage on the third day as per medical indications."

For Fibromyalgia "I have just taken prednisolone for the first time for a moderate exacerbation of asthma. For the first time in 28 years, I was pain-free. I kept telling my husband that despite how sick I was with pneumonia, I felt so relaxed and I realized I had no pain. Now I know how normal people feel, I could cry. You can't take it forever due to the effects on your body, but gosh, I sure wish they could work on something that worked the same without the side effects. Meanwhile, I am trying to readjust to pain again and feeling heartbroken that I have to live with fibromyalgia."

For Asthma "I have had fairly severe asthma all of my life, and prednisone does the trick each time my symptoms become unmanageable with a rescue inhaler. While the side effects are unpleasant at times, they are not long-lasting and worth it to be able to breathe again. I get irritable, flushed in the face, and a bit bloated. I have never had to take this more than six days, so this goes away once I finish the medicine."

For Skin Rash "I have dealt with an itching face for several months. I was embarrassed for anyone to see my face. After purchasing numerous over-the-counter creams, without any results, I decided it was time to see the doctor. Thank God for prednisone...the itching went away and my skin is clear."

For Psoriasis "I have been experiencing horrible psoriasis on my feet that had me depressed. Then, I started to also experience joint pain (in almost every joint). After a million tests, my rheumatologist prescribed me prednisone, and honestly, after all the bad reviews, I didn't want to take it, but thank God after a couple of months I did. My psoriasis cleared up dramatically! It's like a miracle that I hope is not short-lived... If you are dealing with severe psoriasis and haven't had any relief, I would highly suggest you at least try it short term. It will change your life for the better..."

For COPD "Hacking deep dry cough woke me up in the middle of the night for days until I started the prednisone taper yesterday. Last night I woke once with a light cough, but I easily went back to sleep. I am taking 10 mg pills, 5 a day for 2 days, then 4 a day for 2 days, then 3 a day for 2 days, then 2 a day for 2 days, then 1 a day for 2 days."

For Allergic Reactions "I had a severe allergic reaction to poison ivy. Both arms, from my wrist to my elbow, were covered in hives. I had to run to the sink every 10 minutes because it felt like my arms were on fire and the worst itch imaginable. I was averaging 1 to 2 hours of sleep a night for weeks. Prednisone saved me, literally. I was going crazy from the intense burning feeling, severe itching, and no sleep. I am on my 4th round of prednisone, since most doctors prescribe way too low a dose for this severe of a reaction. Finally found the right doctor who gave me the correct dosage. I can finally get some sleep, and my arms are not on fire. If it was not for this medication, I think I would be in the loony bin somewhere scratching the skin off my arms."

For Polymyalgia Rheumatica "I developed PMR about three years ago. Pain so severe in my hips and shoulders that I couldn't lie down, so I slept (fitfully) in a chair for six months, while undergoing tests (RA? Fibromyalgia? Leukemia? ...). Finally, the doctors agreed that I had PMR and referred me to a rheumatologist, who put me on an initial daily dose of 15 mg prednisone. The pain vanished within 48 hours, and I haven't had a recurrence. I was on a tapered dosage of prednisone for about 6 months, followed by methotrexate for a year. No side effects, other than waking up earlier than usual, which is a small price to pay for continuing pain relief."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I had COPD with chest pain, also I had shoulder pain due to lifting heavy objects last year. I had started prednisone 20mg x 2 two days back. I shall take it for 5 days. I felt much better on the second day only. Today is the third day and I am feeling much better. My COPD symptoms improved very much. Also, reduced swelling in my shoulder magically. I had not taken it for shoulder pain but it improved very much. Now I can raise my hand 90 degrees which was impossible two days back. My breathless due to smoking-related COPD is getting cured. improved up to 60%. Three more days to go, I shall update you."

For Fibromyalgia "I have stiffness in my lower back, pain in the neck area, and hips for many years, but the pain is tolerable. I also get periodic muscle stabs of pain followed by a twitch like when you fall asleep. From time to time, the pain would get bad, and I would need to take pain medications. Narcotics never worked, but Toradol would work well. HOWEVER, when I had an allergic reaction to Toradol with hives and itching and went to the ER, they gave me prednisone. Within two days of taking prednisone, I had SO MUCH energy and was pain FREE. I felt like I was 20 years old again. I had the ambition to get things done. I felt SO good. I felt like I discovered the fountain of youth. I don't know if it is coincidence, but I never had the pain until I contracted HSV."

For Asthma "Prednisone does wonders for my breathing when I'm at the point of struggling to take a deep breath, yawning to catch a breath, coughing, and constantly coughing up thick mucus. The side effects don't bother me like they did when I first started taking prednisone. It has really been a benefit to me."

For Asthma "I get that terrible cough twice a year along with my upper respiratory infection (including sinus infection), and no antibiotic worked so far (tried few different ones). My only relief was brought by Prednisone treatment. Although, I am a person who does not take medicines just for anything, I was very open to prednisone."

For Bursitis "As a nurse, I can tell you that oral cortisone should be taken early in the day (and with food, of course) to avoid interfering with normal sleep patterns. I would suggest taking it with breakfast. And, as you probably know, it is not advisable to take cortisone for longer than two weeks (on a tapering dose) in order to avoid side effects."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "My grandfather was diagnosed with RA in his 30s. Following knee replacement surgery at 61, he was put on prednisone. At 66, he went to the hospital; within 2 hours, he was put on life support and died the following day. It was New Year’s Eve. Cause of death - pneumonia. Prednisone masked his symptoms until it was too late. He never even knew he was sick. Prednisone is a miracle worker for most people. I’ve taken it for short periods of time to get my severe eczema under control, but I protest every time. I’m always afraid to take it even briefly because of how I lost my best friend; my hero. It’s a cruel joke, really. My grandpa was in the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal, survived Korea, came home from Vietnam...taken out by a tiny pill. For those in pain, I know how desperately you search for relief and when you find it, you never want to let go. This one, in my opinion, should not be taken indefinitely. If prednisone works for you, please just take with caution."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I am a 55-year-old female and have been living with RA for 8 years. Prednisone has made a MAJOR difference in the quality of my life together with a combination of CoxFlam, Nivaquine, Arava, Salezepyrin, and Methotrexate. I still have to go for regular blood tests and Cortisone IVs every 6-8 months, but thanks to the medication and my wonderful rheumatologist, I can live a normal and productive life. I am a Senior IT Manager in a very demanding job. Although I had to slow down my pace a bit (as I am totally adrenaline-driven), I am still managing my career very well and hope to remain in my career for another 10 years."

For Asthma "I too get an asthma-like cough once or twice a year following a cold. Usually, I can treat it with my puffers, but this last attack had my husband taking me to the hospital because I couldn't breathe, and the usual treatments weren't working. Prednisone has been so very helpful, I can breathe again!"

For Fibromyalgia "I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. Since that time, I have been in constant pain. I have pain in my knees, hips, wrists, legs, low back, neck, jaw, hands, and fingers. I also suffer from chronic sinusitis, which can usually be controlled by a nasal steroid, antibiotic nasal rinse, and allergy medication. During this time, I have been prescribed prednisone to help with the sinus infection. These are the only two times I have had no pain in 15 years. I will be speaking to my doctor about prescribing me a low dose of prednisone. I am off the prednisone and back to pain and no energy again."

For Inflammatory Conditions "It started as a muscle pain, much like fibro, but it hurt three times worse. It started in my shoulders, then my neck, then my arms and legs, and then my back and hips. My dr did blood tests and my inflammatory markers were all above the normal ranges. This pain became excruciating. Unbearable until I woke one morning and could not raise my head off my pillow. I had to literally roll out of my bed onto the floor. I tried every pain pill from Lyrica to opioids, nothing touched the pain. It was debilitating. I searched through my med books. Finally, I went to my dr and told him, I think I have polymyalgia rheumatica. I had every single symptom in the book! And the tests also were conclusive. So, after 2 days, the pain was gone."

For Asthma "For me, prednisone is a lifesaver. I have asthma and mild COPD. I tend to get very congested and cough all day long, it seems like on the rare times that I get to be on prednisone, I go from being really sick to almost joyous. The problem is I have to go back off."

For Psoriasis "I have had psoriasis for years, but it turned really bad a few years ago. The tops of my feet were completely raw, oozing, and unhealable. I finally went to the dermatologist, who wanted to run patch tests, but I insisted he treat me at once. I was prescribed prednisone for a ~2 week period with methotrexate and blood testing to assure no liver damage. My skin was completely clear everywhere, for the first time in my life - for at least 2 years. Also, using OTC moisturizers daily has helped."

For Allergic Reactions "I have been suffering from chronic urticaria and angioedema (hives and swelling of the face, lips, etc.). I have been afraid to try this medication as I have heard about the side effects of steroids on the body. My recent flare has pushed me to the hospital, and the doctor said I have to take this medication to get better. I am now on my fourth day, and there are no signs of hives and swelling. I am under a two-week intake plan and am crossing my fingers that this will be the answer I'm desperately looking for. Can't wait to be hive-free!"
