Linezolid for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this generic for a raging infection contracted when I had a small surgical procedure done on my finger. Within 24 hours of the procedure, my finger was inflamed and throbbing. Keeflex was first prescribed, and another 24 hours later, it was determined it had not touched the infection. So, I was given Zyvox. It totally eradicated the germ I had contracted. I did have some bothersome side effects, mostly with my stomach just not feeling right. Later in the second week, my tongue turned brown, but no other problems. I was very tired most of the time and could not decide if it was the med or the infection."

For Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Infection "I was prescribed this medication for MRSA. While it did work effectively, it caused extreme anxiety and severe insomnia, as well as a slight nauseous feeling with malaise. I must assume this is a very potent antibiotic, as it has potent side effects."

For Skin and Structure Infection "I was admitted to the hospital with cellulitis on my foot, caused by a fungal infection that got bacterially infected. Spent four days in the hospital on IV antibiotics and after seeing progress on my cellulitis, I was switched to oral Linezolid 600 mg 2x a day for 10 days (was told that sulfa antibiotics would have been a typical treatment but I have an allergy to them). My cellulitis continued to clear and was gone and old skin had peeled away by day 5. I didn’t feel great taking the Linezolid: my heart rate was elevated, I had little appetite and lost some weight, and in general just felt low energy and crummy on it. The hardest thing for me was following a low tyramine diet. I finished my treatment three days ago and am looking forward to eating a normal diet in another 10 days. Overall though, I am thrilled that the Linezolid seems to have worked and allowed me to come home from the hospital without IV antibiotics!"
