For Constipation, Chronic "Overall, after being on high doses of pain meds, constipation has gotten worse and worse over the last year. I've tried many things, and the only thing that's really helping is lactulose. Some people might find this medicine not so good or that it doesn't work, but for me, this has been kind of life-saving. Within 3-6 hours, I know I'll be going to the bathroom. It does relieve constipation pretty fast. It all depends on your weight and how much of this stuff you want to put into your body. Without this, I would be in tears crying. I have even been to the emergency room. Mixing this with Linzess is best. I advise anybody to try this because it has been very successful for me. There are many days that I still have constipation, but lactulose does eventually work when you get the right dosing in your body. Thanks."

Lactulose for Constipation, Chronic "This was the only treatment that worked after my hemorrhoidectomy - had to go to the ER to get this prescription though after three days of constipation from the pain meds - too bad my surgeon did not prescribe this to me earlier."

For Constipation, Chronic "This is a miracle. Taking Oxycodone makes you so constipated, it's not funny. I take 80ml-100ml, which is a dose I wouldn't recommend to someone taking it for the first time. Start small and see how it works for you. I take it right before bed. And by the time I wake up, it's toilet time, every time. Sometimes I will get a slight pain in my stomach during sleeping and it can't wait till my usual wake-up time."

For Constipation, Acute "I've been taking iron off and on for the last 5 months. My red blood cell count is too low, they can't get it to stay up. But I've been getting constipated-9 days without a poo. The lactulose is great, within a few hours, I was at the toilet. It's gentle."

For Constipation, Acute "I had constipation as a side effect of the Codamol I was taking. I was sore, and I’m a big dude. My stomach was solid all the way to the bottom of my ribs. I drank two mouthfuls of this stuff and had the best clear-out ever, must have been an hour on the loo over a three-hour period."

For Constipation, Acute "I suffered from iron deficiency, and I was put on iron tablets. With these, they cause constipation, so my doctor also prescribed lactulose. It works really well, and it gives you a lot of gas and a bowel movement within eight hours of taking the medicine."

For Constipation, Acute "I was prescribed lactulose for constant bloating and constipation, but the taste is disgusting and tastes so overly sweet (like drinking syrup). Apart from that, I find that it doesn't work as well at all, unlike the sodium picosulphate, which works instantly after 7 hours. This laxative isn't as effective at all, apart from that, it causes excessive wind, and they smell so bad to the point it's too disgusting to bear. Plus, I can't tell when it's a fart or a poo, neither is it scary to expel it in case I poo myself. TMI, I know, but it's true! I don't think it's as good for constipation, but it's good for wind. It also has not helped with bloating, as I still wake up bloated and have it all day and night."

For Constipation, Chronic "65-year-old male. Have had chronic constipation for 15 years from pain meds for a bad back, sheet metal worker. Since retiring, the condition got worse. Tried everything on the planet. On a 25 mcg fentanyl patch every 3 days AND 5 mg oxy for pain flare-ups. What I have found that works for me is in the morning, I take 450 mg Relistor with coffee, get 25-40% out. Then take 1 290 mg Linzess with 15-20 ml lactose. Works 90% of the time with a restricting diet. Still drink a few beers. No liquor. Went through 12-15 gastroenterologists before finally getting relief. Finally had major back surgery 3 months ago. Healing well, went to have a torn rotator cuff fixed only to find out I have arthritis and cannot be fixed. Hope this helps someone younger. Life has been rough since retirement. Oh well, could be worse. Also take 2 Senokot before bedtime. Hope this helps someone younger."

Lactulose "Had severe constipation from use of Ozempic for diabetes. My doctor prescribed 1 tablespoon twice daily, and problem solved. Required very consistent dosage use and times."
