Haldol (haloperidol) for Psychosis "This was the worst experience I had in my life. I had hallucinations, and my b/p was 206/126. It was given IM in the hospital and then again at the treatment facility. I wrote a letter in my room in case they found me dead. I fought the nurse not to give me another one."

For Psychosis "I'm taking this med, haloperidol, for just 1 week and a dose of just 0.5 mg daily, but I decided to stop immediately. Why? Because I can't sleep at night, I'm restless and anxious. These side effects are really annoying, and they disturb my daily life balance. I don't know why a doctor would want to put this in someone's body. Don't take this drug if you can use other drugs and options. That's my opinion."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "Was given this in the ER for nausea. It killed the nausea, sure, but I was so anxious! I felt as though if I stayed in that hospital bed another second, I was going to go crazy. When I was released, I raced home and took Xanax to try and combat the anxiety. It's been about 26 hours since I was injected, and I still have the urge to move and run around, like restless leg syndrome. I'd rather just be nauseous!"

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "I got rushed to the ER for nonstop vomiting. I was vomiting for over 10 hours until I finally decided to go to the hospital. They gave me 2 injections of Zofran but unfortunately, I was still vomiting. Then they gave me a dose of Haldol which finally stopped my vomiting. My horrible stomach cramps were gone as well. I was able to get the best possible sleep. When I woke up, I felt like a million bucks. Haldol definitely saved me!"

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER after experiencing chest pain following advice from my surgery nurse. While being there, I mentioned being slightly nauseous. I am extremely allergic to most anti-nausea medications, going into anaphylactic shock, so I was given Haldol. Immediately after injection, my heart began beating faster and my anxiety level flew off the chart. Every muscle in my body wanted to move and spasm, I was practically vibrating in the bed. Seeing as it was only days after having my abdomen cut into, it was pretty intense. It was the closest I have ever felt to being out of my mind. I had to be given another medication to counteract the effect of the Haldol in my system."

For Psychosis "Haloperidol got all the demons out of my head. I was able to drive a short distance on it. Couldn’t drive long distance. All the voices pretty much stopped and negative and violent intrusive thoughts stopped. This would be good for people with eating disorders to overcome them; as it gets all the demons out of your head. You must take it with cogentin to help the side effect of muscle stiffness. I think this medication was worth taking."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Mania "I took this once 4 years ago, NEVER took it ever again because I had the worst side effects ever. I was on vacation at the time and I took it because of my manic episodes. I felt so sleepy yet so restless in my legs and extremely panicky. I had the worst panic attack in my life, screaming my head off at the uncomfortableness in my legs, squirming around like crazy in bed and pacing back and forth. Finally, I took a bath and I realized my eyes were yellow! I almost fell to the floor, but I made it to the bed and I slept from 7 PM to 12 PM the next day, and even then I was still a zombie. Later that day, the side effects wore off and I was able to enjoy my vacation again. Now I'm on a different medication. NEVER AGAIN will I take Haldol because it messed me up."

For Psychosis "I took this drug haloperidol in 2019 while I was being hospitalized for my first psychotic episode. It calmed the psychosis, but I still felt confused/disoriented and believed things that weren’t true. Plus, I felt like an actual zombie on it. I physically couldn’t keep my eyes open, and I was functioning halfway between asleep and awake all day. I couldn’t read or watch tv because my eyes couldn’t see clearly. It was a mess. I’m on paliperidone now and while it has its own side effects, it’s a million times better than Haldol."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Psychosis "Very, very effective. Would recommend. Helpful medicine for psychosis and mania. Helps with delusions, paranoia, and voices, and all that comes with a psychotic episode. Only downside is a feeling of anxiety and having to move around and can't sit still for too long when on this med, but it is a very effective medication."

For Dementia "A 1.5 mg dose was given to my 88-year-old father, who has slight dementia and is bedbound from a stroke and various other ailments, i.e., advanced prostate cancer. He has a sunny disposition, although he was a bit upset that he had become bedbound. A natural reaction, really. The palliative care nurse who saw him and prescribed it encouraged me to give it to him for 'anxiety' in a very general sense. After three weeks, he became like a zombie, wouldn't do anything except lie there looking lost, no interest in the TV or politics, which he loves. He became extremely frail, shaking hands, and completely incontinent. It scared us. It kept us, the family, up all night with the incontinence. It seems to be administered to keep the oldies quiet. I'm furious."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Mania "I was given one injection of this with Benadryl by a nurse whom by the doctor in charge was not granted permission to administer the medications. I was sleeping in the ER after four days was woken up by the nurse and told I was a nuisance to him and he and three other male orderlies in the ER told me they were sick of seeing me there. I told him I might have a seizure if it's a drug that wasn't my current medicine and he said he didn't care. Ten minutes or less I had a seizure and the hospital then released me, I found out they were ill equipped to deal with seizures in the specific ER. What a total waste of time! Haldol was horrible for me. Would never recommend!"

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "Experiencing horrible nausea/vomiting with Dilaudid for pain associated with Stage 4 breast cancer. My normal anti-nausea medication was Zofran, but it started to not work. I was given 0.5 mg I.V. of Haldol every hour for nausea. It worked, but did 'knock me to nap' for a little while. After I woke up, I did feel groggy and was able to eat and drink without incident."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "Went to ER for uncontrollable vomiting and stomach pain. Haldol was the second try (injection) to improve my symptoms. I am shocked reading all of these other experiences because of the similarity to my case. The haldol helped with the nausea and vomiting but oh my goodness the body cramps and restlessness. My entire body was a giant Charlie horse contorting all over the table and I couldn't stop it. Crying in pain. They finally gave me something else which toned it down some but no way would I ever want to go through that again. I'm sorry for those who have experienced it. It's horrendous :("

Haldol (haloperidol) for Dementia "Dangerous for the elderly. My Mom was given this in a nursing home and I was called that she was not eating or drinking liquids for about 2 days. I found out that she was given Haldol. When I looked up the side effects of this drug, I realized that it was caused by the drug. I told the nursing home not to give her the drug anymore and about 24 hours later, she was able to eat and drink normally. Plus, her hands were shaking like someone who had Parkinson’s disease."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Mania "I was homeless and sleeping on a park bench after dropping out of college. Woke up one day in a psych ward. I had slept a good 10 hours having been in a bed for the first time in months. Then a younger nurse walked into my room waking me, with a pill and a dixie cup of water, saying "Here, this will help you feel better." I took the pill and fell back asleep for two hours. When I woke, I tried to speak and my lower jaw went into spasms and I lost control of my tongue as it started lolling on my chin, almost like a dog's. I was unable to form words without a working tongue for two hours. 1995"

Haldol (haloperidol) for Tourette's Syndrome "The Haldol worked great for controlling my Tourette's, but it came with too many side effects, so I had to switch. I gained ten pounds in the first week of use, which tapered off after around three weeks, but the restlessness was unbearable. I was put on Cogentin for it, but then my vision became blurry and could not see anything within eighteen inches. It was horrible."

Haldol Decanoate (haloperidol) for Psychosis "Although this medication completely alleviated all of the symptoms of psychosis, my mom experienced severe joint stiffness, cramping, muscle pain and weakness. During the 6 months she was on this, she changed from healthy and athletic to a near vegitative state. Currently she is unable to get out of bed or use the restroom on her own."

Haldol Decanoate (haloperidol) for Psychosis "I had an involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. This Haldol felt the same as risperidal consta, only it felt more tolerable. Still the same mind freeze and dyskinesia and extreme fear from dyskinesia, as if you are losing your mind. Also permanent changes to normal only began happening 6 mo after stopping. Permanent rise in phosphorus levels in my blood, as well as more inflammation of the parathyroids. After that my osteoporosis became unmanageable. Putting people on these substances is only justifiable if there is absolutely no way to restrain them or make them think and behave in our normal everyday human reality. Since reality is hard to judge when you are working, supposedly, then all the shy and outspoken kids who are not black get put on these meds first."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Mania "Was given this crappy drug last summer at the hospital in the psych ward and everyone was terrified of me! I got an injection so I had to go through a MONTH of this horror. I had insanely slurred speech, my voice sounded more high pitched and tired, I slept ALL DAY, I had terrible akathisia, night terrors, nobody wanted me around, I was more anxious than usual and I wanted to die for relief. The side effects wore off completely, 20 days after I took it on the first of August 2020. Never taking this drug again. I’m on Zoloft and Valium right now, so much better. As for this crap, 0/10. Smh"

My mum massaged me till I fell asleep. Terrible medicine "

Haldol (haloperidol) for Psychosis "Haldol gave me extreme akathisia that I couldn’t bear so I had to go off of it. Wasn’t on it long enough to experience many other side effects that could come with it but I will say it helped with my paranoid thoughts a bit but also made me feel drunk and not myself."

Haldol (haloperidol) for Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the er for stomach cramping and tenderness after a bought of stomach flu. For some reason they used this instead of Zofran or Phenergan first. I had horrible side effects. Every muscle in my body spasmed to the point of nearly dislocating my jaw. It took a full 36 hours to leave my system. Benadryl helped, but did not reverse the effects. I was disoriented and screaming in pain only a few seconds after receiving it. Use caution. The side effects were not worth it."

For Psychosis "Saved me without a doubt from psychosis don’t know what I’d of done without it. it was also great for my extreme anxiety. I used to take 5mg nightly within 2 hours I'd feel calm and relaxed, a bit sleepy the only side effect a bit restless but nothing I could not deal with I think the old drugs definitely still have use!"
