"I am 75 years old, have always worked over 100 hours a week and been in excellent physical shape. I had been using ferrous gluconate off and on for over 40 years (after nearly bleeding to death from a botched surgery). When my iron was so low I could barely stay awake for two hours a day, I would take one tablet every other day for three days, and my iron would be fine for at least a few months. When I ran out of tablets, I could not find it and had to use other types of iron for about 20 years, but I would have to take one every day for about three weeks because it was having an extreme laxative effect on me. I finally found ferrous gluconate again-and even better, in a 27 mg tablet-about the same time my blood tests showed declining iron retention by me. Doctor told me to take iron every day (which I was afraid to before because of all the iron overdoses I read about). I have been taking 27 mg daily now for about five years, and my iron retention and levels are perfect in my blood tests."
