Febuxostat "Initially, my doctor prescribed Uloric, my gout never got better. In fact, it got worse. My doctor insisted that the medicine would eventually work. After one year of severe gout and attacks every two weeks, a different doctor put me on Allopurinol, 400 mg per day, that finally was the answer to my gout problems. Things have been very good for three years now, had only one attack, and that is when my doctor went from 300 mg to 400 mg."

"It took a long time to be diagnosed with gout (3 years!). After another year of treating flares, I made the switch to febuxostat. I had some flares at first (as advertised), but now I am two years gout-free. No side effects, no gout (UA 3.3 - 4.4). Additionally, it lowered my cholesterol and triglycerides!"

"Been taking 80 mg of Uloric daily for 7 years (40 mg wasn't doing much). Uric acid was 8 and flaring plus tophi, etc. Now uric acid is 3 and tophi has disappeared, no flares, and I eat everything. Also take 0.5 mcg colchicine (Colcrys) every other day, which helps deal with inflammation, I guess. I might even lose some weight eventually, which would be interesting to see if the gout is controlled without meds."

Febuxostat "Took allopurinol for an hour initially, along with prednisone in the beginning to ward off the initial flare-up, but I started hurting all over. Then the task started, and the doctor took me off it immediately. Next, I went on Uloric (febuxostat) 40 mg, but had bad pain. The doctor said to stay on it a bit longer to see if my body adapted. Pain got worse. Then I read you shouldn't take Uloric while taking the statin, rosuvastatin (Crestor). Told the doctor, and I wasn't going to take anything. So I stayed off it for a while because I had some functions to go to but just took prednisone. Got a couple of bad flare-ups. Finally, we're to Dr. and he put me on a half dose (20 mg febuxostat and changed the statin to atorvastatin). Worked fine but raised my liver enzymes way up. Remembered that was why I switched to Crestor years ago. Didn't realize atorvastatin was Lipitor. So where I'm at now is talking 20 mg atorvastatin and 20 mg febuxostat. No flare-ups, and will have another blood test."

Febuxostat "I have found Uloric (80 mg) to be slightly less effective in controlling my gout symptoms than Allopurinol (300 mg), and it is more expensive, but it is good to have it as another alternative."

Febuxostat "Been on this for 8 years in the UK - only £8/month NHS, which is amazing compared to USA costs. Very, very effective, smooth drug, no gout attacks since starting. I split an 80 mg pill in 3."

Febuxostat "I have been on Uloric for 7 years. After starting Uloric, I have not had one gout issue. Not one. It has lowered my acid levels. I have no side effects. Would recommend if you suffer from gout."

"I am taking febuxostat 80 mg daily, once, but unfortunately, I am facing gout attacks daily in my feet, big toe. I don't know the reason why? Please guide me for further steps."

"Smoother than allopurinol. Long-term side effects still not known, but works very, very well."

Febuxostat "Overpriced medications. Probably government-sponsored at taxpayers' expense and then billed for profit. Should be 5 bucks for 30 days."

"Gout was attacking me since 2004, all kinds of medications and diets used, but when I used febuxostat for more than 2 years, uric acid level never ran more than 5. Once I left the medicine for 2 weeks, I felt not good, and the uric acid was 9.4. After reusing the pills for one week, the uric acid level was 4.4 only."
