"Being in the medical profession, I’m of course always the worst trying to self diagnose lol. Off and on I’ve used the Blistex smoothies since about August/September last year. Since my lips seem to always get dry the older I get I always have some brand near by. This bout of swollen, burning lips got me really upset. I seem to get them at least once every couple weeks since last year. Started looking at ingredients of the stik in front of me (Strawberry Coconut)and saw these side affects and comments from others! OMG how is this still being sold! Thank God I found out thought I was having burning mouth syndrome. In the trash all of them including medicated ones!!!"

"Only 2 days I used Blistex lip medic and my lips felt raw, was swollen and hurts like it was cracking. This was very rare since it never happened to me before. The products in this item must be reviewed or removed from the market!"

"I have been using Blistex mango blast for years. I went to use it again one night (about 6 weeks ago) after not using it for a month or so. My lips became itchy, inflamed, and blistered. It took a couple weeks to resolve. I opened a brand new one and tried it again, thinking that the other one may have been expired or contaminated. The blisters, rash, peeling, itching, burning on my lips are even worse. It’s been a week and my lips are still oozing and bleeding. I’m never using that again!"

"I've been using the Blistex lip conditioner for a few days now, mostly at night when my lips are super dry. I'm unwell so having to breathe solely through my mouth is drying out my lips. As soon as I apply my lips start to feel like they're on fire. This sensation remains even after I wipe it off for around an hour or more. It's currently been off for 30 minutes and the burning sensation is still there. Ouch!"

"I would give this negative numbers if I could. I used the strawberry coconut on Saturday several times. In a few hours my lips were on fire, swollen and hurt greatly. It's Monday and I'm miserable. I have a red dye allergy which was not listed on the package."

"I started using the Blistex Fruit Smoothies Strawberry Coconut as well. Noticed itchy bumps around my lips, then they swelled. I immediately washed it off and took an antihistamine. Hope it works out for. Right this minute my lips are on fire."

"2 times, now Each time, had washed face and used toner (different toner and soap each time, and a moisturizer used for years.) I avoided area from nose to chin around lips with toner. applied the chapstick as moisurizer. Within hour of applying Strawberry Coconut smoothie my lips burned as if had eaten something spicy. By 4 hours, lips swollen, corners starting to split, redness 1/4 inch around lips. Each time, at the start of irritation, rinsed every couple hours, lips under cool water from faucet. 2nd day: blisters around inside of lips and they swollen and burning, dry. The first time, used mix of refridgerated honey, snail mucin and and aloe vera, in compress of medical gauze- then as dressing as needed to keep lips from drying. Day 3. swollen, burning, skin breaking and raw around edges. rinsing and plain aquaphor gel. Antihistamine not helping. Bumps and itching under bottom lip to where chin starts."

"I used all winter, and was having the tightness in my chest, glands in my neck were sensitive, couldn’t wear pierced earrings. Now I notice above my top lip, it looks like I have a mustache. My hair is light, never had this issue. Believe it was the use of the Blistex. Hopefully it fades..."

"Left my carmex at home so I picked up some blistex medicated lip balm, within an hour of applying my lips were dryer than when I applied, they itched, were red and swollen. Went to the Dr turned out I got a chemical burn from the product. All I could do was apply aloe Vera and burn gel. Took a few weeks and now I'm left with scarring around my lips."

"I’ve never had a chapstick that I didn't like before… but then I tried blistex. Absolutely horrible. Gave me swelling, itching, and redness after a light usage. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be if you put a decent amount on your lips… holy moly no. NEVER BUY BLISTEX!!! Wish I could rate it a zero or worse, 1 star gives more justice to the product than it deserves."

"I have used Blistex Mint for years and I never had a problem with it till I bought another one in 2022. My lips were experiencing some super dryness and it became watery on my bottom lips so I applied more blistex moisturizer, then the water started to harden and form clumps!! I have bought a blistex peach flavour which first made me have an allergic reaction and then I switched to blistex Mint thinking My lips would be healed, but it got worse. :( my lips are still hurting and it’s extremely uncomfortable"

"My lips swelled so badly using Blistex Orange Mango Blast lip balm, and I had no idea what it was. It lasted nearly 6 weeks and I finally went to the dermatologist, theorizing that it was because I got some of my Retin-A cream on my lips. She prescribed a steroid cream, which I used for 2 weeks, along with a different lip balm. All was well for a month, then I used the Blistex Orange Mango Blast again, and within 2 hours, my lips were swollen, red and itchy again. I've used Blistex my whole life and don't know what this could be. A new ingredient or sensitivity? It's terrrible and won't use again."

"I always wear some sort of chapstick and have never had any problems nor am I allergic to anything, that I know of anyway. Lol A couple months ago, I bought a 3 pack of the Blistex Fruit Smoothies. It smelled nice and seemed fine going on, until I woke up with swollen lips. I didn't even realize it was THAT balm causing it for a day or 2, since I use a bunch of different chapsticks and just grab whatever happens to be in arms reach. Nevertheless, the swelling went down a day or so after I stopped using it but the skin on my lips would NOT stop sloughing off, constantly and heavily for about 2 weeks. Because of that, they hurt REALLY badly. Btw, I wasn't picking at peeling skin. The skin was literally coming off on it's own. My lips only seemed to improve after I started using O'Keefe's Lip Repair Balm but that could've just been a coincidence. I still don't know exactly what in the Blistex caused that reaction but I definitely don't plan on ever using it again!"

"A couple of weeks ago I used a brand new blistex fruit smoothies strawberry coconut chapstick. I noticed that my lips started to swell and become scaly, red and bumpy. I didn’t know what it was so I went to the pharmacist who told me it was an allergic reaction. It looked like I had red bumps all around the outer ring as if I had lip injections. It finally calmed down with antihistamines after several days. Then last week I used the blistex again and my lips literally doubled in size and were burning, itching, scaly and bumpy within hours. I even had difficulty breathing and a tingly throat. I took antihistamines and immediately phoned the doctor. The only change I had was the blistex so I went online and found dozens of other similar experiences with this horrible product. I cannot understand how this is on the market especially since reactions can become worse over time. Absolutely *terrible* product."

"I used this type of blistex in December 2021 and again recently and both times woke up with swollen lips and a round ring rash on my lips and skin around it. I didn’t make the connection the first time as I had other things going on. I threw it out. This type of dry skin takes weeks to heal. Look into what is the raspberry lemonade flavor. It is very concerning"

"I have had issues with all lip balms that contain beeswax. This is a new allergic reaction that started a year or so ago. It took a bit of research to find the ingredient that was the root of the reaction. It is not the beeswax itself but actually a pesticide that is used. The bees pick up the pesticide and it gets transferred to us when beeswax is used in a product. I stick with the vaseline in the tube. It’s just petroleum jelly"

"I’ve been using the Blistex Berry Lip balm for years. It’s been great, no issues. I’ve recently bought about 4 pkgs of the lip balm, ( 2 inside each package ). When I went to use one, the texture was normal, it tasted and smelled like soap and perfume. I’ve tried all the other ones and they are the same strange taste and smell. Has anyone else had this experience recently? I’ve emailed Blistex, but haven’t received a reply yet."

"Me and my sister always use Blistex medicated lip ointment for years and years and about 2 months ago my sister's lips became swollen and she had a burning sensation, a few days ago I bought a new tube and the same thing happened to me. I think you have a batch with too much medication in it."

"Needed something for dry lips. I first tried this in the '70s. It worsened the cracking and peeling. Terrible product-actually amazed they still make it. Anyone that experiences swelling etc., should avoid any lip product that has scent or perfume of any kind."
