"This was my first experience with birth control. From a physical side, it was great, lighter, shorter periods, and no side effects. But it turned me into a miserable, emotional mess. Almost ruined my relationship with my mood swings, neediness, and constant breakdowns. It took a long time for me to begin suspecting Yaz, and it was only when the pharmacy was out and gave me Yasmin instead that my suspicions were confirmed, I am 100% happier and more emotionally stable now."

"I've been taking Yaz for over a year now, and I'm proud to say I have nothing negative to say about it. Everything's been well, I've got lighter and shorter periods, which I love! No abnormal things happening like mood swings or hair loss like others are experiencing. I think it really just depends on the person whether this pill is right for you, no two girls are the same in that area. I recommend it."

"I never thought I’d leave a review for a drug, but Yaz was a lifesaver for me. I began taking it at 19 years old after several miserable experiences with other hormonal birth controls (HBCs) that left me seriously emotional and depressed. Immediately after starting Yaz, I felt normal again and enjoyed clear skin, even hormones, steady weight, and light/no periods for a decade. At 29, I was ready to start a family, so I stopped taking Yaz - my cycle immediately went back to normal, and I became pregnant right away, giving birth 9 months later to a healthy baby girl. Birth control pills are so different for every person, and there’s no one-size-fits-all, but I highly recommend giving Yaz a try if you’re in the process of searching for your perfect fit - it worked for me!"

"I've just started taking Yaz at 42. I've not been on any birth control for quite a number of years now. I am just concerned that I'm a lot moodier and aggro than I ever was. I need some advice on how long I will feel like this?"

"I started on Lo Loestrin FE for polycystic ovarian syndrome and then changed to Yaz since my insurance didn't cover Lo Loestrin, and besides that, it was giving me acne, and I was on an emotional roller coaster. With Yaz, I was feeling way better, slight acne, no weight gain, but yeast infections. I'm switching to Yasmin."

"I've tried just about every birth control in the book. Depo was by far the worst with over 15 lbs weight gain in a year, horrible acne, and leg cramps. Loestrin24 wasn't far behind with chronic exhaustion, zero sex drive, and depression. Ortho wasn't bad, but I did experience weight gain (about 5 lbs in a year). Yaz is by far my favorite, and I can say that both before having my first child and after. Yaz stabilized my pre-menstrual mood swings. I think it actually increased my sex drive post-pregnancy. I've had no weight issues and no acne problems. I think all the commercials about Yaz's side effects are bogus - every birth control is going to show correlations with some disease or another. I'd recommend Yaz in a heartbeat."

"I started taking this pill when I was 14 to help regulate my periods and to be prepared when becoming sexually active. Fast forward to now, I’m 24, and have quit taking it altogether due to severe depression and anxiety. Reflecting back, I didn’t have any depression or anxiety symptoms prior to starting this medication. I read recently (within the past few years) that this birth control in particular can make depression and anxiety worse or start it up - so I quit taking it for a while as a trial run and felt TREMENDOUSLY better. I was happy again and didn’t have mood swings like I’ve had for years (I’m also on antidepressants and anxiolytics if that tells you anything). After a few months, I restarted it, and the same depressive and anxious episodes returned. I’m not sure if every birth control does this, but I do not recommend this one for the sole fact of maintaining mental sanity (depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts)."

"This is the worst medication I have ever tried to take. It made me severely depressed, almost to the point of being suicidal. I am normally very happy, so the reaction was alarming. Also, I cried incessantly and had terrible vaginal dryness, loss of appetite, and insomnia. I didn't eat or sleep for about 3 days, and I was all swollen from crying. (Keep in mind that these symptoms happened on my honeymoon.) My new husband (who wanted me to be on some form of birth control) begged me to stop taking it. I stopped taking it, and within 3 months was back to normal."

"Been using Yaz for the past 3 years, I think. My periods became lighter, shorter, and my face cleared. But, every month before my period, I get really emotional and depressed. Will be looking for a replacement."

"Yaz was fine at the start for the first 3-4 months, but after that, I’ve been having the worst headaches. I feel constantly low, which has never been an issue before in my life. My eczema began to flare up extremely badly, and I’ve had tonsillitis 3 times, an ear infection, styes in my eye due to a weakened immune system, all within the time period of 6 months. The only positive is my skin, which has been completely cleared."

"I've been on Yaz for about 3 weeks now, and I am an emotional wreck, but all birth controls that I have been on have had me like this. My face is clearing up, I think, and my hair is growing, but my emotions get the best of me. I feel like a crazy person, crying one minute and fine the next. I get upset over the smallest things, and I hate it. Also, my sex drive is super low. This sucks, honestly."

"My experience with this drug has been terrible. I was prescribed it to treat my endometriosis, and although it began to help that, it had other crazy side effects. I began to get severely depressed (not wanting to do ANYTHING, not even shower or brush my teeth), my anxiety has been through the roof, began having heart palpitations which then made my anxiety worse, headaches, difficulty sleeping, and tingling in my arms/legs. My doctor took me off of it over a week ago and I’m still struggling with these side effects. If given the option, DO NOT take this pill."

"I'm 26 years old and have been using Yaz as a contraceptive for 1 year now (2016-2017). I had been taking it previously from 2013-2014 (prescribed to me 1st for menstrual cramps and oily/hormonal breakout skin). I was completely off Yaz in 2015 after noticing extreme side effects and am sharing this to let women know they're not alone in this whirlwind of emotion this pill brings along. I must say that it indeed cleared my skin and turned my menstrual flow into hardly anything and for 2 days only. Cramps still come... It started off with a noticeable shift in controlling anger/getting irritated really quickly. Then emotions heightening, most turning into major emotional breakdowns and then severe anxiety."

"I started using Yaz, as I thought I was doing the right thing by my body, was actually 'happy' and was on it for many years. I had health issues on the side, which I worked to diagnose for many years. Oddly, doctors never made the correlation. I did stop taking Yaz so I could conceive, and within 3 months, all of my mystery medical issues disappeared. It was only then I made the correlation. It is from this experience I believe that over time, I developed IBS and malabsorption issues. This led to health issues such as anxiety, low iron, and low energy. These issues bring on a host of other issues as they have a follow-on effect. It is for this reason I would highly caution against Yaz."

"I hated being on Yaz. It caused me to gain a lot of weight, so much so and so quickly it actually scared me. I was incredibly depressed and sad all the time, finding myself crying nearly every day, whereas I am normally a person who almost never cries or gets overly emotional. I had difficulty breathing and felt like my chest was weighed down. Anxiety and panic attacks became my daily norm. Another strange thing was it gave me little red bumps all over my face that weren't acne but just texture. I have been off Yaz for a year now, and I still have the red bumpy texture all over my face."

"I’ve only been taking Yaz for 2 months, and at first, I felt great, but then I started to get really tired all the time and struggled to do anything that I would normally have plenty of energy to do. The first time I got my period, I had severe cramps, and I have never had menstrual cramps in my life, and my period lasted 11 days when it would usually last 3 and be very light. I started taking it because of my acne, but my acne hasn’t really cleared up at all. I don’t feel myself, I feel so off and negative. I’m going to stop taking it today!"

"Yaz was amazing for my life. I was on it since I was a teenager. I stopped taking it when all the new health warnings came out because my OB recommended it. I didn't like every other birth control after. I then had two children and went to an intrauterine device and didn't like that either. I then switched to another pill (awful) along with the NuvaRing. Then I begged to switch back to Yaz. I love it still. Although the cost is higher this time around."

"Decided to try Yaz after having bad side effects on Levlen. I have been on this pill not even a month, and my mood swings are absolutely insane. I have very intrusive thoughts, and I go from happy to sad to furious with absolutely no cause. I’m at the end of my pack now, and I have stopped it completely. Safe to say I’m staying off contraceptive pills, as the side effects just aren’t worth it. Not only that, it’s $93 for a pack of 3, no thanks!"

"Taking this birth control was the most awful decision I made. It made me very emotional, I cried every night and had disturbing thoughts. I couldn’t eat and barely had any energy to get out of bed. I was waiting because it says that this is normal for the first three months, but things got worse. I started having skin rashes, and my hair started thinning (a lot). That’s when I decided to stop taking this medication. Please be careful with this birth control, in my opinion, it is not safe, or at least not for everyone."

"I've had nothing but positive experiences since I started taking Yaz in 2009. Clear skin, light or no periods, and of course, no babies. I haven't had any negative side effects like weight gain or mood swings."

"I’ve been taking Yaz for 18 months now, and it’s been the worst experience of my life. I’ve become a completely different person. It’s made me anxious, depressed, and I feel completely numb. I just stopped taking it, so I’m hoping it gets better soon. It cleared up my acne, which is the only upside to it, but it’s not worth taking it."

"I was on Yaz for about 3 years after discovering I had PCOS and had a horrible experience with it. I’ve recently switched back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen, which I was on for about 10 years and never had a problem. From the beginning of my time taking Yaz, I had breakthrough bleeding, multiple chemical pregnancies, worsening depression and anxiety, and my migraines got progressively worse. I would bleed for 8 weeks or so, receive little to no help or direction from my gynecologist, and was told my body was just adjusting - even after the initial 3-month time that your body takes to regulate. Recently, I had another issue with bleeding for 8 weeks or so, and I was fed up, so I stopped taking it, and the bleeding immediately stopped. I don’t know why I had such an adverse reaction or why my doctor didn’t suggest something different all this time, but be careful and listen to your body if you plan to take this medication."

"I'm currently still on Yaz because my mother won't let me off of it. I'm 18 and not using Yaz for contraception but for depression and anxiety, which I find horrendous that my doctor has kinda just gone, 'you're a female, it must be your period!' Idiot. However, Yaz was kind of working at the start, everything has gone downhill, and now in my fourth month of using it, I'm thinking of stopping taking them against my doctor and mother because my periods are irregular. I drink a lot of water, but I'm constipated daily. I have funny discharge, I've put on weight, I have headaches and feel dizzy. Closer to my period, I get sick and feel like vomiting, and I'm not happy. These pills don't help me how they're supposed to, they just hurt me."

"I was on Yasmin for some 9 years and just moved onto Yaz 4 months ago. I loved Yaz for the first month, however, I am now finding that I have TERRIBLE mood swings... VERY emotional... cry for no apparent reason and get very angry! I've also found that I have zero sex drive. The only time I have one is when I am on the sugar pills... for the rest of the month I just feel numb! Hasn't anyone else had a similar experience? I'm thinking of trying the Merina Coil... any ideas? Thanks :)"

"I do not recommend this pill. I was doing okay in life (regular period, no menstrual cramps, manageable mood swings, etc.), except I have acne, so I took this pill, replacing another pill that I thought was worse. It did not clear up my acne, but worse of all, in three weeks of taking this, I became from a super positive person to a crazy, angry all the time and so negative, and gets irritated by anything every 10 minutes, like literally every day. I had bouts of sudden depression, not just the ordinary sad/blues kind of thing, like literally crying for no reason in the middle of the night. It took me 3 weeks to figure out what has been causing me, and yes, it's the pill! When I decided to stop, I felt better. After stopping the pills, the anxiety and depression stopped. Try to read all the negative reviews on how this pill messed up their head and eventually their life."
