"Be very careful with dapsone. After what I am going through, I am wondering why it hasn't been taken off the market/discontinued. So, I have minimal change nephrotic syndrome w/FSGS. I had to be put on high dosages of prednisone, which would require me to be put on dapsone to prevent me from getting Pneumocystis. I had to take a 100 mg pill every day as directed until the prednisone was weaned under 40 mg. So, I finished the first prescription and had a refill of the second prescription. I was on day two of the refill when over the weekend I started to itch very badly. So, I took a Benadryl and stopped taking it. I was fine until Monday morning. I woke up to a rash on my arm and private area. So, I took another Benadryl. I called my nephrologist to let him know that I stopped taking it. So, on Wednesday morning, I woke up not being able to breathe, chest tight, lips and face swollen and wheezing. Long story short, I was found to have dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome."
