- Stops in breathing have happened with Prostin VR (alprostadil (prostin VR)) in newborns with some heart problems. Most of the time, this is seen in newborns that weigh less than 2 kg (4.4 lb) at birth and within the first hour of using Prostin VR (alprostadil (prostin VR)). Doctors will be watching your baby's breathing closely.
Uses of Prostin VR:
- It is used to keep the wall inside the heart open in newborns before surgery.

- If your child has an allergy to any part of Prostin VR (alprostadil (prostin VR)).
- If your child is allergic to any drugs like this one or any other drugs, foods, or other substances. Tell the doctor about the allergy and what signs your child had, like rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
- If your child has a breathing problem called hyaline membrane disease or respiratory distress syndrome.
