Wondering if those of you who have started Praluent did so because you experienced muscle pain on statins. If so, have you had any muscle pain that may be associated with Praluent?
Have any of you experienced muscle pain since starting Praluent?

I am in my 3rd year of Praluent. It's nothing less than a miracle drug for me. It dropped my cholesterol from a start of around 250 to 107 on last test. I only inject once every three weeks instead of two. I'm going to a once a month injection starting with my next injection. 75mg.
I took it after trying about 4 different statins with horrible muscle cramping. Mainly in the legs and calf's. Absolutely no side effects with Praluent. I hope it works as well for you.
I'm a 72 year old man taking 75mg Praluent 75mg injections every other week for the last 6 months along with Lipitor statin 40mg daily. I get no side effects from the Praluent. I do get muscle pain from the 40 mg. Lipitor statin. Both of these meds have lowered my LDL (Bad Cholesterol) from 300 when I had my heart attack 1 year ago all the way down to 40mg/dl. Yes 40 ! Amazing stuff. Only complaint is the price of Praluent which the manufacturer has just announced a price reduction of over 60% beginning March 2019. I also take a pain pill every morning to make the slight muscle pain go away. I'm very happy with these results and plan on taking these meds forever even though there are side effects that I can tolerate.
Yes, I had pain radiating from shoulder with all statins. It wasn’t worth the pain given my levels were not too bad in the first place but cardiologist wanted lower due to aortic aneurysm. The Praluent works great but after several months I am developing uncomfortable levels of pain in my legs especially the leg where I inject most frequently. If this continues and I can pinpoint my problem to the drug. I’m discontinuing.
Your last post thank you very much it is nice to know, And like you said these new ones are very hard to answer until they have been out for awhile. And also since you had written you last post on the Praluent the doctors are using much more caution on the statins that cause severe leg and other cramps. Some people have stopped many statins and the cramps continue for who knows how long. thank you so much for adding this.
AGAIN MS; THANKS, alot and would love to hear what goe's on to the latest one when you find out this is great to hear what the outcome is. chuck1957
Just wanted to follow up on my question in February regarding Praluent and muscle pain. Most of us, I believe, are eager to hear what others with Familial Hypercholesterolemia have experienced after discontinuing statins owing to muscle pain and other side effects. I completed a trial of Praulent for about three months, but my doctor decided the small change in my cholesterol didn't warrant continuing. While there seems to be some question that Repatha will be anymore effective, I agreed to give Repatha a try and will share any useful results in a few months.
In regard to muscle pain with Praulent and Repatha, I think these two drugs are just too new to give anyone a clear picture of the scope of possible side effects.
I also want to respond to Celeste regarding her experience with exercise and suggest that she may want to search online for medical studies focusing on exercise and statins.
Thanks to everyone who has responded thus far.
I am 17 years into heart disease , statins etc.. I eat right, work out etc.. I was bedridden from Lipitor back in 2002.. my cardiologist talked me into many other statins and no statin alternatives.. I had side effects to all!! I’ve been on praluent since last August 2018.. I was giving my shot 2 times per month in my thigh.. ended up with pain to the point I was on crutches in the 4th month.. after 2 weeks I was better.. the pharmacist told me if I was willing to try again to give the shot in my upper arms away from my legs.. that has been better for several months.. however I am experiencing severe pain mostly in my left leg/hip and am concerned it’s from the praluent.. it’s keeping me awake at night etc.. I’m not convinced yet this is a great alternative.. Lipitor did wonders for my cholesterol.. praluent took me from over 300 to 172.. ldl from 183 to 92. Happy with that but if this pain is from that I’ll take my chances.. life is too short..
Have a heart scan to see if it is plaque or inflammation. I was on statins over 30 years, finally had to stop because of the pain. Praulent was a nightmare compared to statins. Statins leave your system, but after 6 months Praulent is still the "devil." Flu like, nasal, etc. I have 2 plaque in any arteries, but very high inflammation. I work on my inflammation with folate and B 12.
Yes I have pain all the time, beside that I have memory loss and I lost too much weight as I was too thin to begin with.. Not my favorite drug but statins dont work with me
It's been about 6 months since I started Praluent and I haven't noticed any extra pain. I already have Fibromyalgia and arthritis in my back and was afraid of statins causing even more pain than I currently have. My LDL has gone down over 50 points and my triglycerides are almost normal. Hopefully it keeps working its magic and I don't have any problems.
yes. I stopped statins because they weren't working to lower my soaring LDLs and caused crippling muscle pain. I started Praluent to control my Familial Hypercholesterolemia with the hope of not having horrible muscle pain. After 9 months of injections, my LDLs are much lower, but I am having significant muscle aches and wonder if this miracle drug is worth the PAIN. I only agreed to take it because it wasn't supposed to cause muscle pain like the (useless) statins. SO, NOW WHAT? Discontinue Praluent & wait for a heart attack or stroke or continue to suffer horrific muscle pain? I joined a gym to get healthy, but am unbelievably sore after the lightest workout. HELP!!!
I too, had high cholesterol and was having very bad hip pain while walking, so my Dr took me off statins and put me on Praluent. After giving myself these injections for over a year now, I have had severe leg pains inside of knee area, especially when I try to get to sleep at night. My personal care Dr gave me pain pills to try to ease the pain, and was going to give me an injection at pain sight, but quit hurting as much so cancelled shot. Now having to take pain pills, and just was thinking pain may be associated to the Praluent, was looking at this sight to see if anyone else had the same problem? By the way, my cholesterol is significantly lower, now what?
same for me my levels are at 1588 and 298 ,sever pain
Celeste.. what are you doing now?? My doctor doesn’t believe me that I’m having muscle problems from praluent.. I’m concerned
I have serious pain in my shoulder where I had rotator cuff surgery, I don't know if it's worth this kind of pain! I just went because I thought my rotator cuff was being tour, I noticed this site and I started reading it and noticed this is a common problem of having joint pain muscle spasms. I'm having a muscle spasm I believe in my shoulder where my rotator cuff was repaired. I went two at Orthopedics doctor for this, they have a range that MRI for me oh, it is thought that my rotator cuff surgery has went South! Just finding out what the cause of this really is is going to be really really expensive! If I knew the procussions would have been this severe pain on a level of 8 to 10 I'd never started praluent. I can't live the rest of my life in severe pain! there's no quality of life in that.
medq; ARE you having problems with cramps pain etc still If they just changed you sometimes it takes a little time to adjust to the new one and so far I have been seeing nothing but good things about this newer statin. Which is very common as they improve them because of problems with some of the older ones AS I said before what it does list is very little when you compare it to the older ones on the market. Hope it is working out for you as well as a lot of the posters here.
Absolutely none. Been objecting for 3 months. Total cholesterol went from 222 to 87! Had severe muscle pain from statins. This drug is awesome, no side effects at all!
cholesterol tri at 988 cholesterol at 265 took 75mg 3 months it went up, now taking 150mg now its at 1588 and 298 and still rising eating pretty good to, lots of leg pain and body pain vomiting, this was all due to carbon monoxide poisoning, still giving it hell, and it is giving me hell back what a battle. statins hurt me to bad what can i take or due to help.
I have been taking Praluent 75 mg for 8 months. Started August 2015. So far I have not experienced any side effects. I used to have severe back muscle pain when I took statins.
medq; There is not a lot of side effects listed because this one being one of the newer Cholesterol medications but this one is listed.((( muscle spasm with pain))) Which does not surprise me almost all the others due. but it was not that high it says 1 to 10% in the studies had this but not bad enough to have to stop. So you might just give your doctor a call, Maybe like with Ranger an adjustment in dose and diet you may get better results. Hope you get to feeling better.
I am experiencing severe leg pain inside of knee area when trying to sleep, been on Praluent for over 1 year! I didn't think of it being due to this until just recently, now wondering it this is my problem!
I had problems with all of the statins. Pain, weakness and spasms/cramping. I am on a small dose now, no problems. I get my first shipment of praluent tomorrow. Excited to start.
Update... just took my fourth dose. No side affects so far. Going for blood work in three days. I will keep you updated.
