What side effects happen at each dose of 50,000 units of vitamin D?

I took my first dose of 50,000 units of vitamin (D2) this past Friday night. I was prescribed 50,000 units once a week for 12 weeks.
I experience adrenalin rush symptoms along with a little shakiness and insomnia. However once I fell asleep, I stayed asleep until I woke up abruptly feeling like I couldn't catch my breath and my heart pounding... I sat straight up in bed and violently coughed. It really scared me. After I calmed down all was fine and I was able to relax.
Now at 4 days later I just feel achy, a little nauseated, some stomach upset/cramps. I am finding myself a little scared to take the 2nd dose this friday night...
Has anyone had a similar experience? What can I expect after the 2nd dose? 3rd dose? etc.
Thanks so much for any advice you can give. ~ Capitola : )

My doctor added this same dosage after my Vitamin D came back a 19. I will take my first dose on Monday. My dosage calls for twice weekly of the 50,000. I will let y’all know how it goes.

I have a vitamin D deficiency and have been prescribed 50,000IU of vitamin D once a week for the next 6 weeks. This is my 2nd week. I actually feel less fatigued, but no side effects. I'm praying I do not have any either. I have aches but had those before starting the vitamin D. Pray you feel better soon. Be Blessed.

I take 50000 units weekly for Crohns and have only had good affects from it. I look forward to my weekly dose and wish they would increase it. I have energy and feel great the 1st 2 days after. But start lagging and crash on the few days before I can take it again. But for the person stating someone they know takes Ambilify. I personally had a severe adverse reactions that caused tardive dykenisia and would have caused permanent nerve damage had I continued to take it. The same affect with Risperdal. Those medications are poison and do more damage than good.

I've been taking Vitamin D2 50,000 IU for twelve weeks. I had no bad side effects with my first dose and the next day I took another one by mistake. Again no unwanted side effects. I'm male, 5'10, 150lbs. After the fifth week, I started to feel a significant increase in my energy level. If I were you I wouldn't take the second dose until you speak to your doctor. Good luck.

I had diarrhea from the big 50,000 dose so my doctor had me take 5000 each morning and 2000 vit d3 each night... and after 6 months my vit D3 was within normal levels... before I was very deficient... Ask your doctor if you can take the smaller doses, which adds up to nearly the 50,000 anyway.

I just got put on a weekly dose of 50,000 IU of D3 in preparation for parathyroid removal surgery. Took my first dose a couple of days ago and I continue to feel perfectly fine. Absolutely contact your doctor if the side effects bother you--they have really good anti-nausea meds now.

Stop taking it! No human being is supposed to have this amount of artificial Vit. D! You are supposed to get your D from the sun or food. Every doctor is not on this bandwagon, which is simply the newest fad. No one knows the long term results of taking this hormone in large amounts.

I just got prescribed 50,000iu I'm kind of nervous of taking them. I have severe anxiety and reading peoples responses and symptoms really making me not take them but I have to suck it up and take it. Kind if nerve wrecking but whatever helps me get my life back on track I'll do whatever it takes. I am stronger than the symptoms I may or may not have!

Hi everyone,
I don't know if this questions belongs in this post but I figured it would be a good placed to ask since a lot of you have taken the 50,000 unit prescription.
My issue is a bit different though, when I was 32 I had my first physical and had a D level of 9. I was prescribed 50,000 once a week for 12 weeks. Then started taking a 4,000 daily supplement. I go in when I'm 33 for my next physical and I'm in the low 20's. Get another 50,000 once a week for 12 weeks and told to stay on the 4,000 daily after the 12 weeks.
I've never felt any negative side effects from taking any of the vitamin D prescriptions. Now I'm 34, just did my blood work and I'm at 10. Is it possible my body is not absorbing the vitamin D or that it depletes it constantly? Have yall taken any higher prescriptions or have yall been prescribed something else?

This is an old post, I was just wondering if you ever figured out the issue? I have been taking D-3 for almost 6 months now. I am feeling better but I haven't had my level checked since I started. I was told D-3 5000 IU daily, and could take 10000 IU if I wanted. I think the D3 is more effective?

In the 4/11/17. NY Times' Science Times there is an article. D IS FOR DILEMMA. Very informative. Drs. Are overdosing us on this. Even those who are healthy. I was just prescribed 50,000 iu's once a week. Tried just one and did not like how I was reacting to it. No more! I just read this article last night and will try more natural ways to get the vitamin. It can be dangerous.
