I have heard of some people getting the new OP 40's and don't know what the difference is between them and the OC 40's I have been prescribed for 3 years? Are they all gonna be those soon?
What's the difference between Oxycontin OC 40 and OP 40?

i was on the oc and now i am on the op and they do not work like the old ones plus i have been getting hot flashes. these new pills are worthless have sent the fda a email about this. its change is for the good for people who have cronic pain but if they dont work whats the worth of them you might as well not take them. we all can blame the ****** abusers.
Keep in mind that the roxi doesn't work as well as a controlled release and you can experience side effects like withdrawal since you won't have the steady stream. I have heard of time release capsules that will pass through a person and the "shell" of it is expelled in the stool. The concern is knowing whether the med is still inside that "shell" or not! Certainly, i will NOT be the person digging in the toilet to
Find out that answer! Sorry, had to giggle that was so gross!
Thx, MamaO3PCDs
yeah you maybe right it was the abusers that cause all these changes to the pills,,however ever since this pill has been out there are more people abuseing them than there are people taking them for the proper reason, and i am sure MOST people dont need such a strong pill to help with there pain,as for myself i lost my leg a few years back and of course was giving oxy,but it only led to me being hooked on them and 8 out of 10 others i new that were taking them,,however shortly after i lost my leg and i got off of oxys,i started taking IBUPROFEN,600 and they worked just fine,,all in all there are other pills out there that can be taking that works fine i dont feel all the people that are crying over the new oxy need them as bad as they are crying,,, P,S,YOU WILL BE SURPIZED HOW YOU DONT NEED THEM ONCE YOU ARE OFF THEM FOR A WHILE,,, THANK,YOU
if u lost ur leg u were having nothing but phantom pain.if u had pinchednerves in ur back u would feel different.
I have noticed a difference in the strength and longevity. They do NOT work as well as the OC. The first dose of the day is when I need pain relief more and the OC would work quicker and give immediate relief for several hours but I cannot get the same relief from the new OP. I actually cannot feel the OP working on a continuous basis. It seems that OP's do not release an adequate steady amount or quickly enough on a continual basis. Ther are times when I cannot notice any difference at all after taking the OP but with the OC, I could always notice I had taken one and the OC would last longer. I am definitely going to request the Roxicet 30mg because they do work. They are not time release but you can take one every six hours and at least manage the pain. With the new OP, I have to take the 10mg Percocet for breakthrough pain more often during the day. The new OP are NOT sufficient to replace the old OC formula.
I have very good news for you if you have a Walgreens Drug Store at your access. The manufacturer of the old style Oxycontin, Purdue Pharm, acquired Ethex Manufacturers to distribute the OC's for them. It's being marketed in generic form as Oxycodone ER in 80 mg & 40 mg only, but unfortunately only Walgreens is carrying this brand name. Let me warn you though, pretty much every pharmacy is very hesitant to give any information what so ever concerning Schedule II medications over the phone, unless they know you due to the rash of daytime robberies not too long ago looking for, you got it, Oxycontin!! There's one more company that distributes the 20 mg only, called Apotex. As far as I know once again, Walgreens only carries this. You must completely trust & believe me when I tell you, IT REALLY IS EXACTLY THE SAME MEDICATION. It's says OC on one side & 80 on the other, is the same exact color & same size.
It will begin to melt in your mouth, if for some reason you can't swallow it immediately, so that alone tells me they ARE NOT the OP's. The OP's gave me horrible stomach pains with worsened constipation. Worse of all (I'll swear on a mountain of Bibles, too!!) those darn things passed completely through my intestinal tract & on out completely whole, without dissolving at all. Now you tell me, how can a medication perform its duty if it can't break apart to let the chemicals do what they're suppose to do? Recently I read they've discovered yet another dangerous side effect from them. If you have a damaged liver, etc.,be careful because whatever they have used for the reformulation to make it abuse resistant, has the possibility of causing further or additional problems or damage.

thanks so very much there are different manufacturers that make the old formulary, i have no idea why it is such a secret, but talk to walgreens not on the phone , you're wasting youre time i feel that us , the ones all have the same symptoms the op formula has almost killed me , i got very sick, so listen do like i said and there are help and they have always been there. so sad that we had to suffer so , hope this helps , i know it will, just dont talk about what they say!!! good luck!!!
I have been on oxycontin for several years due to degenative arthritis, and protruding disks in my back as well as the lack of cartilage in my knees. When they switched me to the oxycontin op's I didn't realize they had changed an ingredient in the medication until I broke out in hives, that were constantly itchy and resulted in open sores and an infection. If the company making these medications are going to change ingredients they should be aware that it can cause severe reactions. I had to be taken off this medication due to the severity of the reaction I got to the new ingredient.

ty so much im going to see if i can get them here in ohio i cant take much more of them o p will let you know ty fluffy
Do you know what your doc changed you to as an equivalent? I have been taking this new formula and work in healthcare and thought, originally, these postings were all the rants of people angry they can't "get off" on the drugs anymore. However, I had been trying to come down on my Meds from oxyxontin ER 80mg three times per day q 8h and roxicodone 30mg 1 1/2 to 2 every 6h as needed for breakthrough pain. I made it down to oxy 40mg 3/day and roxi 30mg 3/day and was given the new formula this month after being on the old one for one month. I haven't noticed a decrease in it's ability to work, I think (I say think because I started having increased pain about a week ago but it's worse than when I was on 80's or 60's too so doc thinks I just need to repeat RFTs to SI joint) anyways... I HAVE noticed that I have some sharp
Pains in my right side radiating to my back. It feels like my liver area which concerns me because I have never had this type of pain before. I'm scared and confused. Originally, I thought maybe the Tylenol and motrin I had been eating by the fistfuls may have given me a small case of Inflammation in my liver so I stopped taking Tylenol all together and just taking motrin PM before bed to help with arthritic pain in knees and back.! Still having liver pain and as I sat down to type this (more like layed down in bed) I suddenly had a horrible jolt of the pain. The only way I can describe it is I have a sharp pain under my right ribs that kinda throbs and burns then shoots quickly to my back and feels like it disperses or goes away jn my kidney. While I know that's not really what it's doing it helps me have landmarks to describe it. What I don't understand is why people are abusing the oxy if they can just get roxi and it's pure oxycodone and does no way try to mask itself in a protective tablet. I just hope this pain stops and gives me some sign of it's origin or cause. Until then, I'll keep reading along here. Thx to those with good, requested info without judgement or taking sides. Those are the posts I learn the most from. If any questions, please email and TY!!!

Alyssamarie, please let me know if you find what is causing your right side pain. I am experiencing the same and doctors don't know.
Here is the information I shared which I thought EVERYONE could access. Purdue does still manufacture the old OC's. They are now distributed through Ethex.
I called my Walgreens pharmacist and told him about all the issues and concerns that have come up. He verified that my information was correct and told me he has the original oxycontin in 10mg and 40mg. They get them through Ethex and will continue to get them as Purdue is still making them and from his knowledge will continue to do so.
The issue with the new formulation is the coating. My pharmacist has many complaints. In fact the coating may be so strong that some peoples digestive system may not be able to process it. Therefore the pill passed through and comes out in complete form through your bodies excretory system.
After the death of my niece's boyfriend over this new formulation I decided to not answer any more questions. He was unaware of the new ones and he took a few extra because they didn't "work". He took a total of 3 in one and a half hours. He went out to eat with friends, never did get high. Went to bed and never woke up. That's all I will say, I believe I said enough. God Bless you all and Take care.
I have called several Walgreens in FL, and they say that their supply company (Same as CVS) does not carry Ethex. They al told me it was just Purdue and the new formulation.
msfino, I believe what anon was trying to say is that Ethex is the distributor of the old oc's, not the name of the pill.
Do they make the ethex or apotex in 20mg and 30 mg.?
Yes as stated from other members, it does refer to Oxycontin Purdue, Purdue Pharma is the maker , now to answer the "time release " CAUTION!!! be very careful if you chew these up or break them or whatever, it releases a very strong dose all at once , which can effect your breathing, it can even kill you ..i take the 20mg lower strength and i chewd the first one it was a stupid thing to do, ( and im opiod tolerent) it was not a pleasant experience, i was a bit short of breath, and panicky for about ten minutes , yes there was a "high" but its not worth the risk ..be careful... this is your life ... dont be an overdose statistic peace & happiness
Thank you for adding this. I can't be the only one who is wondering about cutting them up to add to the regular dosage because pain is not being controlled by the OP and am going through withdrawals. The release of medication is inconsistent too. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. I also feel as someone else described, where I'm so exhausted and just feel terrible, mentally and physically. At times it's difficult to stay awake. At other times I feel to hyper and agitated by sounds or my regular cup of tea. And this is with the prescribed dosage. This sucks.
I pray my doctor can find an alternative that he's comfortable prescribing and that works for me.
You apparently don't know much about what your taking it DOES NOT( DOSE DUMP)as you imply by chewing them , that's the whole point if the new formulation is that crushing, chewing, etc will do nothing for you it's new binder (glue, plastic) it seems keeps it from doing anything other than gumming up. I ha e a feeling there will be a huge lawsuit before long as most people's liver kidney cannot break down this substance and it's causing crohns, ulcerative colitis, IBS, a multitude of stomach issues &along with that many people are in withdrawals as the body can't break it down your not getting anywhere close to the amount if medicine that should be released every hour or? It's excreted out via bathroom THAT IS IF IT'S NOT ALREADY CAUSED AN INTESTINAL/COLON BLOCKAGE. The product no longer does what it was meant to do (control moderate/severe pain)it Is now nothing more than aspirin for pain relief but of a way more dangerous nature.
At least aspirin has a warning for liver/kidney damage. Purdue was so freaked about FDA shutting them down on old product OC. They didn't give a hoot about whether it worked or did long term life altering damage as long as sales & money kept coming in. Sad very sad & in my mind sick fricken people that would do this for the almighty buck. That when the lawsuit hits there going to Lose it all in the end and made millions of people chronically I'll. Hope it was worth it purdue
all the people complaining about the generic replacement of the op instead of oc saying it doesnt feel the same are nothing but drug abusers themselves.the object isto not be in intolerant pain all the time, not to feel anything.if the new ones make u nautouis its because they are to strong for u.try getting ur dr to cut ur dose back.
Well, I have been taking Oxycontin 40 mg. for the past year and today I picked up my prescription and when I got home I realized that there was something different. I took one @ 4:30 pm and have been throwing up off and on since. It is now 1:55 am and I am nausous, hurting and pissed!
Shouldn't the pharmacist have to tell you what he is dispensing and shouldn't he have to label it as what it is instead of labeling it as regular ole Oxycontin 40mg. I mean my pamplet that you get with the prescription describes the pill as Round, yellowish, OC on one side and 40 on the other. Instead, it's round, brown, OP on one side and 40 on the other.
I am not trying to be all dramatic, but what if a police officer pulled me over and wants to know what meds are in my weekly dispenser and I explain to him/her that it is Oxycontin and show him/her the pill pamplet with my name on it and the pills description, and am put in handcuffs for illegal possesion of a controlled substance due to the pill and the pamplets description not matching?!
Before you all start thinking that I'm a complete wack job, remind yourself of how we are living in an ever increasing POLICE STATE that is especially making it hard on those of us that ACTUALLY NEED and DO NOT ABUSE our meds, to evn get them in the first place. If you don't agree with that, then ask yourself, "Why did they change the chemical compound to start with?" Because, BIG BROTHER thinks we are all a bunch of idiot drug addicts that they have to BABYSIT!
Oxycontin OP is the new, updated version of Oxycontin OC. It contains the same active ingredient, Oxycodone, in a time released formulation.
The difference is that the OP has been re-formulated to prevent abuse. Trying to crush the pills (for the purpose of snorting, injecting, etc.) will not make a difference, they still retain their time released formulation.
Thumbs up to all three of these answers. All you people selling them for big money those days are gone forever. I am so glad PERDUE did this.
Booter, I'm sure that you are glad about this, but it is obvious that many people including ME, can't take anything but the OC, and have gotten their lives back using it! Now I have to give up a LIFE, because the government etc. are too lazy to look into the REAL problem of drug abuse, not just keep the abusers away. They will find something else to abuse, they always do. I won't have the same pain relief. Neither will MILLIONS of other chronic pain patients. Is it that good?? Especially considering that Perdue was STILL making money, and so were the pharmacies even with the robberies. If they weren't, they would have pulled the pill out of the market a LONG TIME ago.

My comment is to all who say this imposed change by the FDA, due to pressure from Americans who know someone who died from abuse, is a good thing.
I wish for no-one to die, but what about the responsibility of the person who abuses drugs?
You really shouldn't be happy about this change as the new formula as it is not working well for too many people who suffer with chronic or acute pain. They're options for pain control are limited as it is. Have you ever taken a medication only to find out you could not tolerate the side effects? The same is true for people who take pain medication. Now we have one less option for many.
These people who suffer from severe chronic pain did not ask to have to live with it day in/day out. (The abusers did ask to get high though.) They did not ask to stay house bound and isolated from friends and family.
Think about it. One car accident is all it takes for someone's life to be filled with debilitating pain forever.
Legitimate pain patients are now getting a lot less relief from this new Oxycontin and are suffering more because of it. You will see a rise in suicides from people who suffer from pain. Google how many chronic pain patients or war veterans kill themselves due to under-treated pain. You would be surprised.
And yet you will still see the abusers keep dying from using say, Heroin instead. This isn't going to stop them from abusing!
It just doesn't make sense to be cheering for the abusers, when it means the chronic pain patients suffer more. Cancer patients have severe pain too. Think about how many people get cancer every year. Then add in all the other diseases that cause pain. It could be your mother or your father, sister, or child, who will be under-treated for pain due the the FDA and DEA laws.
As it stands now nearly all legitimate pain patients are under-treated in the United States. Yet some cheer for the stricter laws placed on the use of pain medications.
once again the government punishes the honest because of the actions of the dishonest!!!
GREAT answer Sunrise. I couldn't have said it any better.
This comment is to Booter, your comment makes me want to meet you. Just so I can see what an ignorant pompous person looks like. Clearly by your statements you have no relation to this issue which is why you have such an interesting stand point. Why do you even care about this issue, if you don't have pain then consider yourself very lucky. But for those who do have severe chronic daily pain, Oxycontin is a miracle drug. My Grandma who is 80 years old is prescribed to Oxycontin and without it she is miserable, she does not abuse it, she needs it to get up out of bed in the morning. With the new change she has been getting sick and experiencing numerous side effects which she did not before, now her doctor doesn't know what to do, nothing else works as well as Oxycontin. Why should my Grandma suffer at her old age when there is a perfectly fine working drug.
Just because some people abuse it does not mean everyone does, and it is unfair that because of our lazy, corrupt government, real law abiding people with pain have to suffer. The government didn't change Oxycontin because people were abusing it, they changed Oxycontin because the police are having difficulty controlling the abuse of prescription drugs, especially Oxycontin, because it is very difficult to bust the "source" or the main people who are prescribed to Oxycontin and putting it on the streets. Also Heroin sales and crime is down since the release of Oxycontin and the Government profits from Heroin being sold not just from the criminal standpoint, fines, bail, forfeited vehicles, money, property, prison time which allows the Government to have people work for a quarter an hour doing jobs many won't. But also because the Government works with main sources of Heroin distributors. I believe if the intentions really were to help the public abusing Oxycontin, they wouldn't have changed Oxycontin they would have spent their money on cracking down on the clinics prescribing Oxycontin, finding the Doctors who are irresponsibly prescribing Oxycontin. Or have more regulations for the patients prescribed, like random call-ins call patients randomly and ask for them to bring in their prescription to see how many pills they have left, those who sell or abuse will not have even close to the amount they should have left. The Government would fund better and more affordable rehabilitation centers. There are many other things to do to really solve the abuse of this drug. And the simple fact of the matter is that the Government paid a company to create an uncrushable, unabusable pill for lucrative and selfish reasons. Not to save or help people. More people now go out and purchase heroin on the streets and risk their lives using a drug which they have no idea what is in it, and risk their safety going on the streets to score some heroin. They didn't solve the problem or make it better, they just made all Oxycontin addicts Heroin addicts which is much worse.
Viams, wish that I could give you a thumbs up. So consider this a thumbs up!!
I am a above the knee double amputee with copd, mrsa and lung cancer. I was on Oxycontin 120mg a day until a year ago and my docotr switched me to methadone for my chronic pain. I didn't think it would work but after getting the dose right my pain level went from a 10 down to about a 4. I have friends in my group who are affected by the change in Oxycontin because of the new op because of abuse. It is unfair that people like us who have real pain have to suffer because others abuse it. There will always be drug addicts that is never going to go away and always be criminals it is a sad situation for those that are terminally ill or hve chronic pain.
Unfortunately the government and makers don't give a dam about people who really need these drugs to have a livable, humane life. If they just monitored the drug companies production and distribution of these drugs there wouldn't be as much abuse.
Really, you guys don't think the government has been trying everything to prevent drug abuse? Young 12 13 year old children are getting these meds from dealers, crushing, snorting and dying. Yes you are in pain and maybe this new addative is causing you some side effects. The point is if you took the medication correctly and received pain relief, you should still be receiving pain relief. They have not removed anything from the medication. If you had pain relief prior from using correctly you should still be receiving pain relief. If some of you were crushing and snorting then yes you were receiving a higher dose of the medication because you took away the extended release part and now you are having more pain and discomfort because you are probably having withdrawl symptoms. Im sorry about that but, it is saving peoples lifes. I know you feel your life is more important but, we need to make safe meds that aren't killing people. Especially people not old enough to even know what the heck they are doing.
All over the news opanna is the new dangerous ones we all new this would happen. What an alcoholic stop drinking if he couldn't get his choice no it move on to the next alcohol beverage wow that's like the drug attic they just move on to the next one. Never met such stupid people and government that went to figure that out all on their own
I agree BIG TIME WHEN THEY CHANGED THE OXYCONTIN THEY PUT ME ON THE SOFA & bed all day they do nothing for severe pain all over my body fr many accidents surgeries failed god help us real chronic pain patients ? I'm ready to end it all Dealing w all drugs that don't work since that changed OxyContin HELP !!! '
They feel exactly like the Opana to me
The OP stands for Oxycontin Purdue. When a pharmacy has to reorder this medication they will automatically receive the new 40 op. They will not have a choice.
They changed the chemical compound (none of the actual drug was removed) by adding something that would make nearly impossible for people to abuse it. They were abusing the drug by crushing it to snort, dissolving to inject or chewing them to get a maximum high. That's the good news. The bad news is that whatever they added to it has changed how well it works & how long it lasts. Let me know what you experience when you get the new one, please.
I will, I got the medication one time, and the reason I ask because what ever the change is when I took it I got sick I stayed nauseated from it aswell, I didn't no what it was that they added to make me feel that way,I don't believe it works as well as the one's that say oc I'm not crazy over the change.
I too, am concerned about WHAT EXACTLY they have changed in the new op's... it makes me nauseous and the only thing that seems to help a little is to def take it with food, but still doesn't feel the same. Something is definitely different enough that we are all noticeing the effects. I need more detailed info on the change! and a nice big sarcastic thanks to all the abusers for making the manufacturers HAVE to change what worked all to well for those of us who NEED the meds and don't abuse it!
All of the above changes are correct. As the active ingredient has stayed the same the filler is may be making you nauseous I would talk to your physician and ask them to change what your on or get use to it because it will become the norm in the pharmacy. as far as the one person who said how can they label it oxycontin 40mg when it isnt the sae... it still is the same medication quit the mental weakness.
yes i have been on oxycontin for a year and when i got the new ones i also got nausea plus hot flashs more and they dont work as well. what joke this all happening because it was being sold to abusers and that sucks for us having the real pain not wanting to abuse it. i heard of a new drug that is named oxymophone or opana and is supposed to work like the old ocs.
this is day 2 of taking op. they do not work as well as oc, and they kiinda give me a sick feeling in my stomach. next time i will shop for oc. otherwise i will ask my doctor for a solution.l
I don't know much about them op, but iif anyone is having problems with them i suggest to switch to oxycodone er, it is just as good as the oc, they only come in 10, 20 , 40, 80s. They have ir for oxycodone too, for those of you that want the immediate release. Hope this helps!!!
The new oxycontin40's do not work for me as well as the old ones. They make me feel aggrivated and quisey. I hope this is only temporary cause I don't want to have to go up to 60mg's. Is there anything we can do to change them back to the origional formula?
I have been taking 4 80mg a day for over two years. I have rheumatoid arthuritus deforma and my hands and feet are deformed, I have 5 stints in my stomach in my aorta vein, also i have an enlarged prostate gland and suddenly after this new OP i couldn't urinate in the morning so i immediately quit taking them but it's hell. Now i am slowly trying to get by on 1 a day however these new pills do NOT control the pain. I am not a drug addict as i am 84 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions that may help me out?
Hello My name is Krissie,I just joined because I had to respond to you & others OMG I can not believe what they have done to us meaning... We as patients got no notice,no information,no "heads up" about this change nothing!! I agree with you 200% this is a great safety for the people that are NOT legitmate pain pts & using it ONLY for the soul purpose of pain relief. But, I have been on Oxycontin 80's the same exact dosage for 9 yrs) I've being doing great, got so much of my life back : ) Then About a month ago I started feeling reeeally weird scary weird... sweats... chills... OMG irritability just chaos.
My pharmacy failed to mention this change & that other pts were complaining & swiching meds to Opana?? So, I know for a fact the Oxy's are not working properly considering I had no knowledge of this "change" yet have been trying to figure out why I feel so awful & been generally going thru he_l AKA withdrawl w/o even knowing it I can't believe they "Purdue?FDA? can change a medication that so many people depend on to live and have been taking it longterm!! I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet but I had to let other people know, They aren't going crazy... the OxyContin is NOT the same Okay Thank You So Much For Letting Me Vent & Please Be Careful
I was in a prolonged ( 5.5 week) coma after a truck went out of control and broke every bone in my body.
I have been through the gambit of pain relievers. Morphine made me ill, and Hydrocodone made me foggy, ... both caused severe constipation.
I have used Oxycontin for 6 years.
I started out at 80, moved to 60, then due to my constipation got down to 20 mg twice a day( with breakthru meds)
This allowed some small pain reduction, and no constipation.
My wife "snitched" on me to the doctors about my extreme pain levels, as I was accepting and trying to function at a 6-7 pain level so I could stay fully alert.
Doctor wanted me to go up to 40 mg twice a day, and we compromised at 30 mg
30 did help. No constipation. not foggy either, and pain level stayed at about a 5, which was not fun, but I could get by!
I stayed at 30 for last year and a half
The new formula is killing me!
I get heartburn 24/7, and am constipated.
My tongue stays green, and I am at a level 5-7 all of the time... and there is more-
Sometimes after 8-9 hours It is as if the pill has completely vanished from my system.
I have found gummy partially dissolved pills in my stool on 3 occasions.
The doctors have commented I may need to go up in dosage, but I know I do not need a higher dosage.
I am displeased with the new formula, and looking for advice or guidance.
I have blindly joined and signed up for a class action suit, that I was approached with by an attorney.
He is promising folks financial restitution
I DONT WANT MONEY.
I finally found a dosage and medication I could tolerate, and Purdue has screwed it up, in an effort to "look good" to the powers that be.
Oxycontin no longer is the same medication, and it is not just me. I am in a pain support group, and in therapy to this day, and the name Purdue, and the effectiveness of Oxycontin has become a joke among both patients and hospital staff.
I already wrote in about how poorly Oxycontin OP is working for me. I have been taking the Oxycontin OC for 6 years now, after going through a dozen other pain management meds. The Oxy OP does only about half the job of its previous formula, and I too find undissolved pills in my stool.
Purdue is trying to make themselves look good to the FDA at the expense of patients well being!
I did hear back from Purdue with a complaint form. After I spent two hours on the phone with Purdue, giving them all of the details, phone numbers to my pharmacy, my doctor, my case manager, and more... they sent me a form to fill out.
I am severely disabled, and the form asks me to do ALL of the legwork for them, as if I were the one who was being questioned. The letter asks that I go back to the pharmacy, and obtain the lot # of the pills , and to get the UUID of the product. The letter gave me other difficult tasks. This letter went further to state that "in the event lot # or any other information is left out or incomplete, Purdue labs will consider the investigation closed , with no further contact".
Way to go Purdue. You have turned the tables on the disabled!
YOU are the one whose product is on "trial" here, and you already have all the phone numbers, names, and addresses. Why can't YOU contact the pharmacy and get the lot # instead of sending a paralyzed person back out to do YOUR job, before considering the "investigation" closed.
Purdue Labs is paying "lip Service" to make themselves appear to be in compliance. They have already shown that their proving to the FDA that they are "working on the abuse problem" is MUCH more important than the patients welfare.
Now they have shown that They are only making a token attempt at "studying this issue"... also just to make themselves look good in the eyes of the federal agency FDA.
I tried the op verision of oc and had a severe reaction. My tounge was red as the firetruck, all inside mouty was irritated, and then to top off my throat started to close so here I go off to ER. With this reaction I tried morphine and I also tried opana but this does not help. If anyone has any suggestions I would be eternally grateful. Does anyone know about roxicodene. Thanks JH.
I felt my life as a mother and a wife had returned, thanks to the OC-60s' my physician prescribed. Upon purchasing my latest script it was filled with OP-60s' and I feel betrayed. The new medication is making me sick. I am suffering with many of the other posted side effects, It does not control the pain and who could tell with all the nausea, fatigue and raw mouth to mention a few. I can not understand why Purdue would replace a product that worked for so many in need with no warning to them, the physicians or even the pharmacy. Now a I suffer, my doctor looks for an alternative. I can only wonder what chemical has been placed over the pill to achieve your goal that would cause so much harm to your patients that depend on you for some piece of a normal life. What if it was your mother, sister, father, or child.
Is this what you would want to introduce them too, just more pain? No one I speak to seems to have an answer, so I ask, "what can I take now,I need hope." I was under a pain contract and never abused the drug, I just don't deserve this treatment, nor does my family.
I did take two 60 mg oc - last time I only recvd.eight and the rest were these new op's. I also suffer from nausea. What the heck is in them to do that, also I always siad the other oc never lasted me 12 hours (like they were supposed to do) but closer to 8/9 hours. These new ones last me only 6-7 hours! So my two a day is not cutting it. This sucks to say the least. I do know that Purdue has a 1800 phone number - I answered there little survey about the oc's I do plan on calling them again after my first two weeks with these new ones and let them know I am not happy. The more peopke to call them I believe may help So Dial that number (found on their website) all of you that r not happy!
i have recieved them last week. ok i guess ,but they play hell on my stomach. and i mean really bad
i have recieved them last week. ok i guess ,but they play hell on my stomach. and i mean really bad
I've been on oxy for 15years along with tylox. When new ones came out they seem not to work. I also have passed them whole a few times have also spoken with Purdue was informed they will not change them.Correct me if i'am wrong, thought life was choice(ours) not somebody else.
After reporting to FDA and to Purdue Labs two things happened to bring Purdue further shame.
1- I was sent a self addressed mailer, and told to send a sample of my Oxycontin OP to Purdue for study. This is crazy, since they already have my pharmacy lot # and should have gotten this from the pharmacy! As it stands, this is a 31 day month, and I get 30 days worth of meds a month. I will allready be 1 day shy on my meds, due to the extra day, and Purdue cares so little about pain that they have now made me 1 1/2 days at months end without meds!!!
SO... I went online to whine about this to FDA and my congressman..next
2- On the FDA website, I read the following recent discovery:
"Propoxyphene: Withdrawal - Risk of Cardiac Toxicity New data shows that Propoxyphene and Propoxyphene-containing products can cause serious toxicity to the heart, even when used at therapeutic doses. Posted 11/19/2010"
This was alarming because in the varying dosages of Oxy contin OP there is hydroxypropyl cellulose and 2 other Propoxyphene related products.
I have sent this documentation to the FDA, Purdue, and to my congressman.
I invite you all to do the same.
Vitolo, Where can I find more information about the additives and the heart problems they can cause? I want to do something to help but I don't even know where to start.
Someone said it was nearly impossible to fill Purdue's complaint forms if one is severely disabled because they ask you to do a lot of leg work. I can't do much physical activity in order to compile the information this person said Purdue requests one to do in order to file a complaint. He said they make it virtually impossible to do, and that they will throw away the complaint if not every question is completed.
I can write a letter to my congressmen but I would like some solid information to back it up. I don't know what ingredients have been added to this new formula.
Where did you find this information about heart problems?
Any other suggestions on what to say to congressmen, etc. ?
Thanks in advance,
The new version op makes me sick to my stomach and they need to change it back. I heard they are changing it back but I don't know if this is true but I wish they would. I have no appietite any more and I enjoy food. this new formula sucks!
I have experienced nausea, headaches, poor appetite and the pain returns too soon.I'm noticing that I have to take more than what's prescribed to function and the doctor's are playing with peoples health, now they also want to lower patients dose without monitoring them or even know their tolerance limit and some are just taking them away from patients altogether without detoxing them.I too know a few patients that have passed because of this and it is very unfair to patients who really need them and their families.purdue sucks!!! I have been on oxy's for 8 years now and as soon as purdue made this change doctors are making irrational decisions on who should be taken off oxy. and who should be given a different form of it that will help the patient not purdue's pockets.
the new purdue op is a pile of crap it has caused patients to have gerd, does not work near as well for pain, moodswings and feeling lethargic among a few of the issues and lastly it is causing patients to change to the generic oxycodone er/cr and now in california the pharmacies will not order the generic form for customers ihave been trying to order it for my wife who is disabled and i have called 30-40 drugstores all will not order and do not stock it save yourself alot of grief just get the MS contin it is as close as you will get to the original OCs anybody know where i can get the 80 mg oxycodone CRs or ERs call me at 805-591-0904
I have chronic back pain and have had two surgery's, and possible looking at another one. I have been taking the oxycontin 40mg pills for 31/2 years. Now that Prudue changed the way that they make them I need to find something else. The new pills DO NOT WORK. They take to long to react. Where it was 15min now it is 45 to 60min. Also they do not last 12 hrs like the old ones the OC did. It is sad that the ones that take there meds the way that they are supposed to has to suffer due to the expense of those who abuse them. Also I have heard that they are not good to take causing other problems. I am wondering if there is another company that makes the regular OC's. if anyone knows let me know.
unfortunately you will not be able to get the good oc's anymore... they are fazing them out... i totally agreetaht the op's do not work as well either..not as strong or long acting plus they give you digestive problems that i did not have before an d i am been taking this med. or similar for three yrs along with others..unfortunately they are reformulating most narcotic meds so they cannot be abused ( which is a good thing) but the people taht need them like up sufffer. i am a pharmacist fresh outta of school and have some good recomendations and advice if anyone is interested... i would recomment asking your doctor for an immediate release oxycodone tablet to go with your long term pain medication... any questions please ask, i'd like to help ;)
I srarted taking the new ones about 3 months ago. and my pain level keeps getting worse. I Take three a day of the forty mg. for the break-thru pain i take 3 15 mg. of oxycondone my pain is getting so bad i can't sleep more than 2 hrs. at a time. It is really not helping me at all i can't sit stand clean and i feel if i ask him to raise them he my get made and take them away all together. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Hi I've been taking The OC 80's and 40's for years for chronic pain. For the past 6 months, the pharmacy have been giving me these OP ones and said they were just as good. Let me tell you, as far as I can tell-they work about half as well and its a shame they changed them. Does anyone know any drug stores that might stock the original ones? I live in TN. Thanks guys
Okay so here's the scoop, new OP pills have a small amount of anti-narcotic built into them. This is supposed to be released when pills are crushed, chewed, shot-up, etc. Problem is that in slower digestive systems, like ones using narcotics, the anti-narcotic seems to come out reguarly. Take the first pill, seems okay, anti-narcotic is released, second pill, not so good, more anti-narcotic, third and so on. seemed a bit ridiculous to me to build in an anti-narcotic INTO a narcotic. Most doctors will deny this fact, most that get some goodies from prescribing Oxy. I had an internal medicine professional finally admit to what was going on. He deals mainly with terminal cancer patients, no time to B.S, them. I was offered Methadone as an alternative, his advice was HELL no. Methadone stores in fat cells so even if you wean off the drug it continually releases small amounts into your blood stream and causes symptoms of withdrawl for up to a year.
I was also given Oxy Ir, yes it is the same drug and at first seems to work great. Problem is that during long term management the ups (yup mega-ups) and LOOOONG periods inbetween doses (even if they are 4 hours) cause a mini sort of withdrawl, the AMA DOES NOT recommend the use of short acting pain relief for long term pain management. This is because even Mighty Mouse would eventually show signs of "pseudo-addiction" and assuming most of us are on a breakthrough drug of some sort that exacerbates the problem ten fold.
I have Pallindromic Rheumatism, Lupus, Fibronyakgia, Seizures, medically induced ulcerative colitis and... I don't abuse my drugs but I live in terrible pain, all the time. The frequent use of oxycodine ER caused me to have these continual ups and downs in pain that was uncontrollable and he my PCP tried to terminate my pain contract. Luckily I went to a specialist who gave it to me straight, was able to intelligently confront him, pointing out that it was he who prescribed the meds and that he should have known better. basically he set me up for faulure.
SOOOO I went back on the OP's with a higher breaktrhrough med and see a silver linin, Thank god!
they added a chemical so if you try to crush it to snort or add water to shoot it then it will rubberize to avoid the misuse of the pills
They do not last on me but about 4-6 hours, I have lots more pain now, makes me sick to my stomach, irritable, it has totally interupted my life and made me miserable and my family also. I have lots more fatige and feel achey all over, more hot flashes and sweats, I get dizzey more often. It feels like I'm having sever withdrawals. I was on the old Oxycontin for 7 yrs. I want my life back but don't know what to do. If anyone has any info that could help please let me know. Desperate Thanks in advance
I just thought it was "ME" feeling like I was not getting the relief I used to get. I just thought I was on it so long,(6-7 years), & b4 that,MScontin100mg. around 10 years, that I just was not able to get good pain relief any more!
I have been on oxycontin for 4 years and i asked my pain mang. dr. to taper me down to 20mg instead of 40mg.I am down to one a day.I have never had a drug addiction an have never abused my meds. But when they changed my oc,s to op,s i can tell a big differance .Everyday I have a headache before i did not have a head ache.
I was diagnosed with liver cancer 4 years ago. God provided a living donor for transplant and we thought that was it. I was taking Oxycintin OC, Oxycodone and Dilaudid for a while after the surgery.Just about 2 years ago the cancer came back but has metastasized (?) into a bone inmy back. Doing radiation but it hurs like a bastard.Put me back on Oxycontin 80 and oxycodone. I knew about the change but live in a little hick town, My pharmacist finally ran out of the OC andI've been taking the OP for the past fcouple months. This messes up my stomach andgives me the shits. Does anyone know of an alternative? Did they pull the same thing with the morphine? The MS contin works but it kind of zombifies me. Please let me know. I'm about to tell my doc to just skip the Oxycontin and give me a 1000 oxycodone or so or find a heroin dealer or something. I just can't see taking this for the short time I have left.
God bless and thanks!
I was on Oxycontin OC 80mg since 2002, then they switch to the OP which changed my whole health statis to VERY POOR. My primary Dr agreed with me and took me off the OP's and put me on Roxicodone 30mg. My health took a big dive to severe.Ever since I started taking Roxi I can't breath anymore I have C.O.P.D. and now I'm trying to see who can fill the old OC. I know there is some still out there. Be careful with the new OP. they are a waste of money and research, just because the normal 10% gotta abuse it for the ones that are truly in pain. THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO THE 10% abuser's
hey guys I've been prescribed oxycontin for 6 years now,as of last year they changed the formulary and im currently on oxycontin 60 mg's they ork fine for me although, they take about an hour to start working. But im also on oxycodone ir 10mg's for accute breakthrough pain ,I found that if i take the 10mg tab when i wake up along with the long acting 60mg im good, but rightfully so they arnt as effective. I tryed the opana 40mg tabs and they made me sleepy as all u know what lol my suggestion to all is first write to purdue pharma explaing the differance and secondly get on the IR's you will be fine! and if enough patients write to purdue they will try to propose to the FDA that there meds arent effecient and sooner or later go back to the original formula! thanks to all abusers of the meds for the in convienience! thanks ~Matt~
just ask your doctor to prescribe Roxicodone 15 30 or 60 mg. The are immediate release.
The new preparation does not give me the same pain relief. I wish they would go back to the other preparation.
I have had to increase the amount of the oxycontin due to the drug not working as well. To bad that the bad guys have so much influence.
have been taking oc 80's since 2005 after disc exploded in back between hips and had to have surgery .After meds were changed to the op's have been having severe nausea and sweats thru out the day and night so bad that sheets end up soaked didn't know about this site until today when decided to see if I was only one having issues.Just would like to say thanks to purdue for changing meds now I'm back to living a sub-standard life due to their short sightedness as to effect of changes for patients who don't abuse their meds I can only hope they end up in same position to see how it feels. When your pain is constant it effects all aspects of your life, your put on med that actually works and you get some relief and some of the life you lost back and then it's changed without any thought to people who use their meds correctly because of people who don't it's upsetting. I thought doctors took oaths to help patients I guess the free trips from drug companies win out. Just another showing of how far society has diminished.
I feel the same!
I'm paralyzed and do a bowl regiment and I've actually on several occasions found the oxi op undigested
I see the point of making them this way to stop abuse of these drugs however, I have to agree although they say that the actual drug hasn't change, I would have to say that they have had to of changed something because the drug itself is not as helpful to relieving my pain and definately has not lasted anything close to the 12 hours that they advertise. Also, because of this I have to take them on an 8 hour basis which only adds more medication for me to take per day.
Up until a couple weeks ago I used to abuse oxycontin regularly. The difference I found was to get high I had to pop like 60mg of the oxycontin op instead of just 30mg of the regular to get high. I'm kinda thankful for the op's cuz without them I wouldn't have gotten clean probably. Can't afford the habit anymore plus there's a girl in the picture so i'm 2 weeks clean now :)
Ever since the change I was on 3 OxyContin a day before the change EVERSINCE I suffer all day & night , I can't wait to take sleeping meds nothing not opana not new patch Fentenyl nothing works ! This is bull the abusers will abuse but what about us real chronic pain patients ? I've been with my pain MANAGMENT Dr. 15 yrs. since the changes in all the meds I can't function it's not right we should suffer daily not being able to do znything but lay can't clean & my apt. Is a pig pen I can't cook , I live on peanut butter ! This is No life !!!
I have been feeling queezy since the change what ever they added i think I am allergic to it I feel like crap, nauseous, drugged, dizzy. Don't like thi feeling at all guess I will start taking 20s if they didnt f those up as well. Chronic pain from cancer complications I don't need more complications from stuff thats supposed to help me. They use to work now they make me feel sick.
I hold an advanced degree in Med Chem/Pharm, and after 7 days of trying different suggested methods am fairly certain I have found the simplest way to obtain fast optimal blood levels of Oxycodone for pain relief/ or euphoria. To be responsible for everyone's (new users') safety I recommend a maximum first dose under 40 mg of OxyContin OP. If there is anyone interested in this simple 15-minute method, please respond. Otherwise I'll save my time until there is a request posted. Nothing magical, just a home method to beat the system of your slow-release, abuse-deterrent Oxy OP Rx. Thank you & you're welcome !
I to notice the change and the effect of the medication has certainly diminished! Sad. The abusers, and the politicians are not helping the people who NEED the medication, that's for sure! It's just ridiculous!
