I am 33 years, I have 4 kids. ( don't ask me how lol ) I have a very very high fear or pain and needles. I have waited to long to get my teeth fixed. When i was younger my mother couldn't afford a lot so i had bad teeth, when i was 15 i moved in with my father who took me to the dentist all the time. every month it seemed like. I was hurt once and because i was getting older i had to go to adult dentist which they treat you different then when your a kid. It up set me to never go back.
I also have XLH also know as Rickets. affect your Vitem-D and bones ect.
Now the time has come for me to have all top teeth pulled. I am having the IV to be put as far out as i can because I can't come to grips of doing this with out it. I cry and freak out the closer it gets to my appt. I have cancel to many times. lol
My mother got hers at 25 i think and i am 33.
What can I expect after they are pulled and I start to wake up?

I had 2 teeth pulled on the bottom, in preparation for a partial. This was about 2 weeks ago. I had 8 pulled on top this past Thursday and also got a same-day temporary denture for the top. I was awake and numbed with (A LOT of) Novocaine (sp?). I couldn't afford to be sedated. I was given Tramadol for pain with the bottom extractions and 21 low dose Vicodin (5-300) for the upper extraction. It's not 'fun' lol, but you'll be fine. Just breathe and focus on the end result

Anyone who thinks that Advil and Tylenol are sufficient for surgical extractions especially a full mouth surgical extraction are downright insane. It's almost 3 weeks and 70 some Percocet later and I'm still in pain not So Much from the sockets because they are healed but from the bone that's protruding in my gums. I'm almost at the point of telling my dentist to slice it open and file it down because I'm going to end up overdosing on benzocaine. It is very painful.
I agree. I'm only 3 days out from a full mouth extraction of 24 teeth. I am miserable and Percocet only lowers pain and not for length of time between doses. I'm ready to pull my dentists teeth and give him tylenol.
I just had all the remaining
Top of my teeth pulled (10 of them). I'm on day two after the procedure. Im taking a pain medication, a med for swelling and an antibiotic. So far the medication is helping alot! When it wears off my gums feel kinda hot.. I chose to be put under and it was great! Felt like it all happened in not time! I'm hoping this continues the way it has and the pain stops in a few more days. Over all it wasn't a bad experience!
I had all 30 teeth remaining pulled all at one shot in a 4 hour appt. Was not put under just novicaine(sp). Was in pain every day, still am, after 9 days, but it is bearable, I am not getting immediate dentures, that seems crazy and would painful and no way they will fit right, I am letting my gums heal eating only soft or blended food, when they heal i get fitted for my perm dentures and will be better of for it
Hey I'm 25 and had 9 of my super teeth pulled roughly 2 weeks ago ( I have to have all my teeth pulled as well ) I was in so much pain before I even got home, pretty thankful I was able to take my pain medication fluent enough to where I was pretty much passed out 5 days lol. I'm really scared about what is safe for me to eat as my gums are still healing and open and I have 4 teeth remaining on top 3 then a gap where 2 have been missing for a while and then 1. I guess I'm kinda ocd because eating has been hard mainly because I'm always worried about food getting pushed up between where my gums are sliced. Can you give me any advice please? I tried half ass chewing my food and just swallowing it but that messed with my stomach and has been pretty painful its self and I am so hungry I feel like I'm going to puke.
Hi Tina! I'm interested as to how your recovery and adjustment has been after getting your dentures. I'm interested in doing the same thing in the near future because of an eating disorder I had for several years. Bulimia has ruined my teeth and I'm in constant pain. I'm tired of root canals and constant fillings every year. Hope to hear from you soon.
Tina how did you turn out? I'm going to the dentist shortly and am scared to death about getting 15 teeth pulled and dentures put right in.
I am 39.I just had my teeth pulled yesterday. I was put under for this.As for pain for the first few hours after it is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Take your pain meds as soon after as possible don't wait for the numbness to wear off. I was only able to take ibuprofen 800mg as I cannot take Vicodin. But surprisingly it worked quite well. It brought my pain level down to a 2. Some IMPORTANT ADVICE: buy some Campbell's soup on the go BEFOREHAND.It was a godsend as I still am only interested in drinking my food. Today (day 2) I have zero pain but am still taking ibuprofen. It is wise to have some one around to give you motherly love as it can be a bit trumatic. I don't know if I'm glad I did it I won't know until I get my dentures. The only thing bothering me now is the way I look... Good luck to anyone who has to go through this.Much love and don't forget the soup!

I just had all my top and bottom teeth removed two days ago.. You will be out to sleep so you will be fine.i was awake for the whole thing and there was so much infection that I didn't get all the way numb and it freaked me out. After it was all done I came home slept and I'm just sore but not in pain.. I've got allot of stitches and it bugs me but it doesn't hurt. I'm only 36 yr.old and I have four kids and I was so scared by a rude and rough deneist that I didn't go back and now after loosing my teeth i regret it.. But you will be fine it's very scary but it's worth the new smile and self confedence you will have after. Just breath and good luck my friend.
I was awake when I had mine pulled. I had 24 altogether, it was pretty nasty having all the blood all over my teeth, I didn't think the bleeding would ever stop.
My temp set of dentures were a hot mess!
I had 28 teeth pulled at ince and a set of dentures put in the same day ... i was asleep when i had the procedure and I asked for some pain meds before they began. When i was done and got home, my husband gave me a pain pill and kept me medicated for 3 days. Because he was on top of it, I NEVER experienced any pain or discomfort.
Hi Tina. I am in a similar situation as yourself. I only suffer from one massive phobia and that is a needle in my mouth. My gums appear to be very strong and one dentist asked did I smoke a lot? Don't smoke or drink.
The lady dentist extracted two front teeth. In doing, so she ripped out my front gum, which was protruding from my mouth. I had to be taken to hospital to have my gum re-instated and stitched. The pain was indescribable.
This week I have to have at least eight teeth extracted and fitting with new dentures. The Dentist gave me Temazepam 10mg, to be taken one hour prior to the visitation. Several years ago my GP prescribed this medication for anxiety and stress and I was on three a day for five years. with little or no effect. Do you think the one med he is prescribing is sufficient.? Is it common practise to remove several corroded teeth in the one visit?
He appears to be on top of his game but I have had terrible experiences with a few dentists. Over ten years ago my local dentist was so bad, that he stopped in the middle of the procedure and told me to come back in two weeks. Regretfully, when making the appointment I was informed he had sadly had taken his own life.. Very tragic and sad.
Thank you for reading my experience and I would be very grateful to hear from people that have had less traumatic experiences.
Regards,
Mark.
PS:- Please note that I am not being knocked out for this procedure which concerns me.
I woke up gently and it seems like you've been asleep for only minutes. The novacane will keep you pain free for about 4 hours. Ask your dentist for a prescription for pain. I got 2 prescriptions - (high powered) Motrin and Vicodin 7.5 mg. The Motrin relieved the pain better. My first 2 days were painful and after that, just slight pain for about a week. I lived on chicken broth and soft foods for several weeks.
Don't worry because the procedure isn't that bad.
Hi i had all my top set taken out yesterday at the dentist i was awake the whole time i dont have any pain just some swelling i cancelled mine a few times but then got it done as i am scared of the dentist the quicker you get it done the better you will feel hope all goes well for you.
Just had all uppers removed and 2 wisdom teeth at the bottom. The worse part for me was the needles to num the area. Once it was num, it was piece of cake. The Wisdom teeth at the bottom were a little rough. I got lucky on the top, they just fell out before I got to the dentist. They fell out whole and didn't hurt a bit, but that right lower wisdom tooth, they had to num me 3 times. Just do it! Afterwards, once the numness wore off, I took the pain pills they prescribed and went to sleep. Once I woke up, I was good. Had to take pain pills (prescription) every 4 hours the first day. Only took 2 the second day and went to work the 3rd day and only took Advil once that day.
