I am 33 years, I have 4 kids. ( don't ask me how lol ) I have a very very high fear or pain and needles. I have waited to long to get my teeth fixed. When i was younger my mother couldn't afford a lot so i had bad teeth, when i was 15 i moved in with my father who took me to the dentist all the time. every month it seemed like. I was hurt once and because i was getting older i had to go to adult dentist which they treat you different then when your a kid. It up set me to never go back.
I also have XLH also know as Rickets. affect your Vitem-D and bones ect.
Now the time has come for me to have all top teeth pulled. I am having the IV to be put as far out as i can because I can't come to grips of doing this with out it. I cry and freak out the closer it gets to my appt. I have cancel to many times. lol
My mother got hers at 25 i think and i am 33.
What can I expect after they are pulled and I start to wake up?

I would advise getting them removed whilst you are asleep, I had my upper and lower teeth (left side) removed, and I felt pain toward the middle of my mouth. That was only due to only half my mouth was numb, I need to go back and get the other side done in 2-3 weeks and I too have been worried but more about feeling it while being asleep... But after reading comments on here I feel re-assured that it will be ok.
But I am opting for sleeping on my next trip :-D I advise you do that..
But if you are then to answer the question in short... no pain after.
Just had it done this morning. Ugh it cost more, but have them put you out. Having trouble with top denture. Too small. Bottoms seem fine. Sore taking my meds and icing. Heading back tomorrow to have the tops adjusted. Wish me luck.
I had all my top teeth pulled today and immediate top dentures put in. The pulling out was a breeze didn't feel a thing, was awake the whole time. Its getting use to the dentures now talking is difficult and I have some pain no swelling as of yet. I too was scared of going to the dentist and now I'm paying for it at the age of 62. Had a yogurt for dinner went pretty well, will just have to wait and see. I'm told by day 4 I should be much better.
Hi wonabe, I hope you are feeling better by now. I had nine teeth pulled on the top on 4/24 and since shortly after the numbness wore off I have been in so much pain that I had to go back to the dentist for an adjustment and more pain medication. I'm still not able to eat anything but yogurt. I was hoping you might have some pointers for me on how you got thru dealing with it. I'm due to go back soon and get the bottom ones done but I'm so scared to go thru this again.
I had 25 teeth pulled 2 weeks ago. I'm a RN and was taught that it is easier to stay out of pain than get out of pain. Take your meds when scheduled not prn the first couple days. If you can take them every 6 hrs, do it Explain to your dentist how much pain you were in and he may have a different med to give to you When you're feeling better cut back on the pain meds. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. And don't shove your tongue into all the sown up holes where your teeth were.. Good luck.
I just had all 25 of my teeth pulled and a temporary denture put in yesterday. I was sent home with Norco 7.5 and it helps take the edge off. I was in considerable pain yesterday evening once the numbing meds wore off and I didn't sleep well last night. I woke up every two hours or so. My face is a little bruised and swollen. I've found an ice pack helps with the swelling and pain. Haven't managed to eat anything other than a little pudding. I was able to take the dentures out and rinse my mouth earlier today, which was heaven. I should've taken something for pain beforehand though as putting them back in caused considerable pain on both the top and bottom.
I had all my upper teeth pulled Monday, and the lowers pulled on Tuesday. The upper ones were a breeze, but not so much with the lowers. The dentist had some trouble with a couple of them a now I am pretty bruised and swollen on one side. I haven't been able to wear my bottom dentures yet. I go in next Wednesday for the first "soft liner" to be put in... wondering how long it takes to start getting used to wearing dentures. I have only had my uppers in for 3 days, but can't imagine really eating with them. I know that sounds quite strange, I'm sure I will get used to them in time.
I'm 32. Unfortunately have not taken care of my teeth. Very poor oral hygiene as a kid. Soda, fast food have not helped at all. Havent made any appointments yet. But most of my teeth are down to the gum line. I have had some bad experiences with the dentist as a kid too. I know its time to get things fixed. Been saving for a while now. Between ins and saving I know I can get it done. I read all these responses and it definitely helps to know I'm not alone. I feel like sometimes I am. I guess its a fear of the process why I havent done it. It has been put off way too long. To all on this forum. What brought you to the point of going and setting up an appointment to have your teeth pulled? Any recommendations on denture purchases. Higher cost, lower cost?
I am going in on the 20th to get mine done. I am going to a place that only does dentures and am getting the high end ones. Extractions and dentures everything is under $4000. I am getting the better ones because I figure they will look more realistic. I was scared, but after being on this forum I am actually getting excited about it. To have teeth again (real or not) will be wonderful :)
Hi All again,
I had my upper and lower pulled last Tuesday and my implants put in with bone grafts and they are stiched up under the gums so to heal properly no pain on that part and I had my dentures put right in. I have a awesome dentists and his staff. I will say this there is no pain except for the dentures pushing on my gums in some places and making sore spots. Which I was told would happen. I go to the dentist everyday to be checked and have adjustments made by THE DENTIST not the assistants. I will go in every other day next week. I absolutely love my new teeth!!! They are white but not fake white. I have thought about this for a year and I am so happy I made the decision to do it. Because the place I go to is one of the top dentist around and he uses a private denture lab it cost me almost $20,000.00. Yes that is the real price I paid. I have 4 implants and I got what they call picture perfect or movie star dentures.
I will be followed and my denture adjustments done for 2 years at no extra cost. I knew if I was going to go through with the dentures I wanted to be able to get everything I wanted to make my experience the best it could be, with no regrets. It is well worth every penny I paid so far. My kids and family ask for pics but I told them when the swelling is down and I am healed I will send pics lol
I'm 58 and have been going to the dentist faithfully for most of my adult life.
My dentist suddenly retired. I was stunned. No warning. He was an older school dentist. I have had bad teeth but have been fixed thru out the years.
I just lost part of my tooth and was recommended a dentist by a friend. Went in and was told (in a nutshell) that none of my teeth are worth fixing. He wont do anything. I am not in any pain. Just thought he would cap the broken tooth. He tells me that I need to get all out and my options are dentures or implants. I am freaking out right now at the thought of false teeth, dentures. I like the idea of implants that end up looking like real ones, but still. He told me that I would not be happy at all with dentures. I dont want to have to take them in and out. He said if i get implants, i would be without teeth for 7-8 weeks unless I pay for Temp dentures. Costing the same as permanent dentures.
I am so confused and stunned, I am totally freaking out. Crying all the time. I have an appointment with a different dentist for a second opinion. This dentist said my previous dentist neglected my teeth. I am really freaked out. Dont have the means to pay for implants, but dont want dentures.
I am 39 and I'll be getting my uppers pulled next week. Will they give me something strong for the pain? Should I expect to be put under?
Advil does nothing for me and I cringe at the thought of an IV.
I am 10 days out since all my teeth were pulled. I had them sedate me. The first week I was in pain and I hate pain pills but I took them. I hurt but not as bad as I thought I would. I had my dentures in. They told me to leave them in to keep the swelling down. Had the stiches out Tuesday ( 2 weeks) Now10 days later and I have no pain except the dentures rubbing but I go every other day still to get them adjusted. I do not regret having all them pulled. I love them and they are white and pretty. I can't get the implant attachment for 3-6 months when the implants heal in my bones.
Don't be scared It is less pain then a dry socket if you ever had one. It will be well worth it. I hope all goes well for you. Keep me updated
Getting my uppers pulled tomorrow. Will he receiving a partial lower. A little bit mm nervous.
Hi grill,
Don't worry all will go well. I am still having mine adjusted it has been 3 weeks. The first week I think is the worst because the dentures will make sore spots till u have them adjusted. Do your self a favor. Don't take them out the first night or you won't be able to get them in from the swelling. Take the pain pills regular the first few days.
I don't regret having mine done. I love them. I just had a soft liner put in mine today to help the fit. I have to wait for 4 more months to get my implants snapped in. Bone has to heal
Good luck and we all have different pain levels don't think just because one don't have pain it means you are weak. I had pain and I am not going to say it was all gone the next day. No if you need the meds take them. u will need meds for a few day. But it is so worth it. I have never had white teeth. I love my new look.
Thanks for the info. I actually feel better now that they are pulled. Never even had to take anything for pain.
Kind of upset that the gum color is darker than my natural gums. I see him tomorrow so I'll ask some questions.
Thanks again for the reply.
I am 8 days into my journey after having 26 teeth pulled and dentures put in. I have had my first adjustment and had a soft liner put in. My gums are a little sore in places, but so far the experience has been a LOT less hassle and painful than I thought it would be! I Love my new smile.

Get on a dental insurance plan. Most plans require you been on them for 6 mon to a year before any major surgery. Insurance is the best but you can also get a dental plan. Most dentists here give a discount of 20% with the plan and your insurance runs out PDQ
I just got my remaining upper teeth pulled yesterday, and am scheduled to get the bottom teeth pulled on Thursday. So far the process has been painless - even pleasant. They gave me a handful of pills about half an hour prior to surgery - nothing psychedelic, just relaxing. Then they put me on nasal laughing gas - I didn't feel any effect of that. They used many swabs of topical numbing agent, so when I got the Novocain shots I could only feel a couple of them - not bad at all. I was awake the whole time, felt no pain or discomfort of any kind. I took a few of the prescribed pain pills after surgery, and slept great last night. This morning I had lots of dried blood in my mouth to scrub off with mouthwash. No pain at all this morning, so I don't plan to take any more pain pills. I have plenty of facial swelling: big puffy upper lip and cheeks but it is not painful at all. It's not the hard swelling that hints at infection, just big soft puffiness.
Already my upper gums, stiches and all, feel pretty good. I'm not getting any temporary dentures - I'm just going to let everything heal real well and will go in for dentures in a couple months. By the end of next week when I go in to have the stitches removed, I am confident that I will already be "chewing" soft foods with my gums. Maybe I'm just fortunate (I always have been), but getting this type of surgery is nothing to be anxious about.
I am so glad to hear all these positive stories! Needless to say I've been kind of apprehensive about getting all my teeth pulled. I did find out why the dentist I'm using does it over a 2 day period, because I have pretty much all my teeth, although most are broken off. They told me yesterday when I went in for the impressions that the reason they do it over 2 days is because of the quantity of teeth I have to extract. I am SO ready to get on the other side of this, again I am glad for all the positive experiences. Glad you're having a good experience Thomasssss :)
I myself go tomorrow Aug 26, 2015 to get a complete exam, then I go Aug 27, 2015 to have all my teeth pulled 7 on top and 14 on bottom. I was told I can get the imprints for dentures for top and bottom but it was recommended to wait Atleast 2-4 weeks after the procedure. I have to be sedated due to I have severe panic and anxiety attacks and copd, so I'll be hooked up to oxygen, an EKG Machine, oxmeter, blood pressure cuff. I'm not worried about the procedure I'm worried about the pain afterwards lol. But I guess I would rather deal with the pain for a couple dsysthen to continue to be in pain everytime I turn around. My reasons for having to get my teeth cut out is because of the medications for panic and anxiety attacks and all the inhalers for copd had made my teeth weak. And the continue to break. So I have no choice. But My question is should I wait 2-4 weeks to be fitted for dentures? Please let me know.
Now I know this is a few years old, but I am in the same boat you were. I have panic and anxiety disorder and my biggest fear is swallowing. Or having a hard time with swallowing. I am to go in and get my top 9 teeth removed and have dentures put in right after. I am so afraid that I will be to swollen to swallow after, or to sore. How did yours end up being for you.
Hi all,
Great to hear these stories. Question for all who will help or have had the same procedures. I'm 53 and had head and neck cancer almost nine years soon and I'm really wanting to get rid of the rotten teeth that keep falling out due to the strongest and longest Chemo/radiation they could give and want to get my upper dentures & later when the bottom starts to completely fail me, those as well but they say that I have to have Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments before they will touch me. I haven't seen the surgeon yet, will go next week, but does anyone know how long or what this entails and will I be able to do it? Is it dangerous to do the dentures? And where is everyone going? I haven't found anyone who will do it with Medicaid? I had to get insurance but now this particular dentist where I got their insurance won't do it. He referred me out and now I'm going to a very famous medical college. Any thoughts on cost, where to go, and procedures for all? Please help?? Thanks! :)

I am going in about a month to get impressions and my consultation before getting all my teeth pulled for dentures. All of my jaw teeth are broken down to the gum line. The dentist told me they were still "simple extractions" does anyone know about this? The place I am going to does the extractions over a 2 day period. Not sure why, but I sure would rather get it done all the same time. I am so glad to have found this page, as I was getting quite nervous about all this.
I had numerous broken teeth when I had them extracted. Some broken above, and some broken below, the gum line. My dentist had no problems extracting any of them. As for why they do their extractions in 2 visits as opposed to 1, I have no idea. I had all mine extracted, the dentures put in place and was done with it in one visit. Having the dentures put in helps control the swelling thereby helping to control the pain. Which for me was very minimal. It may just be your dentist's policy to do extractions in 2 visits. I would ask him when you go have the impressions made. I was extremely nervous about the whole process myself, but it was much easier than I could have ever imagined and I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. Good luck to you and enjoy your new smile!
Thanks so much Lisa01 for your encouraging words! I am kinda nervous about this too, but I know it will be OK. :)
I had loads of injections to numb my mouth when they took 8 teeth out the top so I didn't feel any pain only pressure and then they put my dentures in straight after and I was swollen for about a week after but not much pain to my surprise. Take paracetamol and an anti inflammatory together every 4 hrs and you'll be fine. X
Hi all,
I will be 50 in September and I have had so much dental work on my teeth that my husband and I have been discussing me getting dentures for a year now. Trust me it will be much cheaper then having to keep fixing them. (I am a recovering bulimic and anorexia now for a full 8 years) so I damaged my teeth I have no back teeth except one. I will be going in on Tuesday the 7th of April to have all the rest of my teeth pulled which is 9 on top and 13 on bottom and have 4 implants put in. I am having it all done at one time I will be under mild IV sedation. I am not going to lie I am scared as hell about it. But I know it is the right thing for me. I am not sure what to expect. I worry I will be in a lot of pain and I can only take one pain pill a day or I get very very sick. Never was one to take pills. Lol
I have went to about 5 dentist and all of them want me to try and save them still. I finally found a dentist that wasn't happy about me doing it but he understood where I was coming from. He had to pull 2 back teeth because I had root canals that failed 3 times and were repaired and had pain for months with it. I was expecting pain like crazy with it being upper back teeth. By my sinuses And there was none except the normal soreness and tenderness. First time I ever had dental work and not been in the bed for a couple days. That is how bad the dentist I picked have been and that is why I am out lots of money on the constant repair. I have been saving for this to make sure I can get the implants and the "movie star" dentures. Which I am sure are just normal dentures but as long as they look white and fit perfectly I am all for it.
I was shocked at the cost of the whole procedure.
I have been scared just like others on the board so I to am glad I found this board. I know this is long sorry. Thanks for letting me share my fears.
Ive no idea why they doing it over two days,i had mine done all at same time a week ago, unfortunately my new dentures didnt fit ,its been a week and only discomfort is the swelling on the bottom gum in mainly one place at back im taking nurofen which eases it,im just hoping its not an effection, but all in all the experience wasnt any where as bad as i thought it would be
It's all about the almighty $$$$. Sorry to say.
The 2 day thing is all about the almighty $$$ sad to say.
The pull all your teeth in one procedure and then put your dentures in and you walk out with a big smile is a farce it don't happen my wife had her remaining 15 teeth pulled and then they stuffed this cheesy excuse for a set of dentures in her mouth while the deadening was in effect and she was hemorrhaging blood bad and then showed her the teeth in a mirror ,they were flopping around in her mouth and did not even look like a set of natural teeth. The truth is it is a 6 month process at best and the end results are not guaranteed to be to your satisfaction after they soak you for 10 thousand dollars.
I have RA and am on Methotrexate, Orencia and Plaquniel, I have to have all but 3 teeth pulled upper. I have all bridges and caps. I am a nervous wreck. I have Medicaid. I don't know if they pay for sedation. Two of my teeth are broken to the gum. I can't handle listening to the grinding and drilling of the teeth. I went to this one Dentist that accepts Medicaid, the woman that handles the claims, does not know what she is doing. It's been 4 months and I am still waiting for approval. Long story short. I have an appt with another Medicaid Dentist this Wednesday, Jan 7, I know I have to start all over again. Just wondering if anyone had bridges and cap's on their teeth while being pulled. I am 55 years old. Just dealing with this all over again is a horror! I wasted some times 7 hours on the phone! It turns out the woman in the Dentist office, did not know her job!! So, I begin again!! Thank you and good luck to you Tina77, I found out my Grandmother had her teeth out in her early 30's!!
Andreap13 - I had 4 beautiful porcelain crowns removed with the roots and 2 teeth for a total of 6 front teeth. I loved my partial but it's worthless now. It's been 2.5 weeks since this was done and I love my temp denture. I'm a diabetic (type 1 for 50 years) and no threat of infection since I was taking an antibiotic too. Your gums need to shrink about 6 weeks before you get your permanent denture. My temp is very realistic looking! I'm happy. The IV was great and I was out for 1.5 hours. I asked them for a light dose since I'm sensitive to all drugs. When I woke up, it seemed like only 1 minute. The pain was intense for 4 days so I took the prescribed Motrin but Vicodin helped a little more. I took a week off from work so I was able to relax and not worry about pain. On the 5th day, the pain ended for me and I was so thankful. Continue rinsing with salt water and your gums should heal pretty fast. I rinsed 5 times a day. Every day gets better on what I can chew but I still can't bite into anything so I tear my food into bits.
Thank you Metaluna, I need all the prayers I can get, I hear so many different story's. Just so upset with the old Dentist. It got to the point, every time I would call to check in, they wouldn't even put me through to Anita who handles all the claims. I am praying, that with Medicaid they give me a temporary set of teeth before the perm, teeth come in. I have been making teeth out of wax, due to the fact the two piece bridge that broke to my gum is my second tooth and eye tooth. My friend looked it up on google. Just so I have have some dignity when I go out! It kept me in for almost 3 weeks before my friend came across this. Just the fact I have to start all over again!! UGH!! I know there is a reason for everything. So Wednesday the 7th can't come soon enough!! Thank you again!!
Andrea
I worried constantly and now I wish I hadn't. Put your trust in them and everything will be ok. The salt water is key to healing. You can't have anything hot for about 3 days so get yogurt and ice cream before you have it done. Since I'm a diabetic, there wasn't much I could have and I got very hungry. After 3 days, I drank an entire can of warm chicken broth several times. Hopefully your dentist will prescribe Vicodin and you can sleep a lot. The Motrin prescription took away a lot of the pain but the Vicodin was better for intense pain. You might not feel pain as much as I did but at the worst for me, it was an 8 out of 10. The 4th day... I was amazed... no more pain! Don't worry. :-) I couldn't focus on my beautiful denture until I was out of pain. No one would ever guess it's not real teeth! Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing afterwards.
Thank you so much Meteluna, I should no better than to worry. It's just a wast of time! Just going through this Dentist and her staff that has no skills, I will be reporting her to the American Dental Association. They were also telling me if the claim for the first three visit's that were approved by medicaid, weren't paid in 90 day's I would be responsible. The deep cleaning that took maybe 20 minutes she is charging me $990.00!!! I did everything on my end. Just like I said, here I am two almost front teeth missing, and they had no compassion. I have a note book of date, approval numbers etc of everyone I had spoke to! Just hoping it wont be that long!!
Thanks again! Oh, I have Vicoden for my back, so I should be fine, Motrin works better, just bother's my stomach. I'm just more nervous of the sound of the dentist pulling my teeth!! Like my Dad always told me "This too shall pass" Have a great day!
I am 50 years old and like many here, have to have all of my top teeth pulled for dentures tomorrow and I am freaking out. I can not afford the sedation so I will be awake for the whole thing. I'm on antibiotics for infection and hope and pray the pain is bearable. I had a horrible experience as a child with a dentist and now it seems like my throat closes up and I cant breathe once I'm in a dentist's chair. Curious as to how long pain or swelling may last and if I am over reacting. Embarrassed to be this scared at my age.
I just had all of my teeth pulled Monday. Here it is day 3 and I have some discomfort but nothing that Tylenol can't take care of.. Make sure you take antibiotics. I can tell there is still swelling.I rinse my mouth out several time a day with warm salt water and that really helps too. Good luck
What upsets me the most know, after going to the second Dentist! What a difference. I found out that Medicaid makes you wait until your healed before the give you your dentures?! It's like I wasted almost 4 months with this other Denstist for her office not doing their job. I had to get the xrays e-mailed to the new Dentist. Medicaid only pays for xrays every 6 months, after one week when the office manager didn't send them to the new Dentist. I told the girl, "if their not there by the end of the the day, I'm calling the Dental association. Long story short, my new Denstist got them. Then NY got hit two weeks in a row with the snow. Finally went yesterday and was told, if I want I could pay $800.00 for the temp Dentures! I do not have that kind on money, nor could I even borrow it from someone.
She said I have to go through the whole aprroval process, and find an oral surgen! I'm spent! I could have had my teeth by now!! How am I supposed to walk around go even just food shopping without any teeth? This is crazy! I'm going to call the complaint line and see if I can get anyware with them! Thanks for letting me blow! I'm just so depressed that this is happening this way!!
You're right, the medicaid lady did not know what she was doing. Unfortunately for you, all the waiting only increases the anxiety. I have medicaid also and I could have had my oral surgery two weeks after my claim was submitted but fear of the surgery caused me to wait 6 months! I had all of my teeth removed and many of them were impacted. I was fully sedated and when I woke up I had no pain. I was prescribed Norcos but over the counter Tylenol and Anvil has been sufficient as I have not experienced any severe pain. There was a lot of bleeding for the first 8 hours after surgery and I'm still experiencing a lot of swelling but that is to be expected since I had all of my teeth extracted at the same time and many were impacted. I am so happy I had it done. The excruciating tooth aches and unsightly appearance of my teeth was horrible. By the way medicaid does not pay for sedation but my fee was only $100. Go ahead and get it done. You'll feel better, look better and be more confident.
Do you have straight state Medicaid?
I am 53 yrs. Old. I just have All my teeth removed and to my surprise no pain. But I do have alot of swelling. I am only taking my antibiotics and ibuprofen which is good for the swelling. I will get my dentures put in on the 21st. I am very hungry, afraid to eat anything. Good luck
I had my upper teeth pulled and dentures put in a week ago and only needed pain meds for 4 days, but wondering how long it takes for the swelling to go away completely?
Hi. I have not gotten mine done yet. My teeth are ready & I get them the same day I get mine pulled. Thinking about doing my bottoms right then or a few months after. Still sceard. I have a few he said he would need to cut the gum a little. I wish I could n would have taken better care of my teeth & stayed on my meds for XLH. Ugh.
i just had my upper teeth removed a day ago. i am not in so much pain but i don't get dentures proably till about a month or so is that normal and i am hungry too but afraid to eat much they never gave me antibiotics i eat pudding cottage cheese and jello
Hi. This is my Tina. I go in on the 22nd Oct. To have all top pulled and 3 lower pulled. I already have my top fake teeth in. So I will wake up with those in. As far as my bottom I was going to get a fake ones to replace the ones being pulled but I'll be back in 2 months to get my bottoms done. ;0)
I am still freaking out. I am having the IV. As I can't handle pain or the sound or needles in the gums. It is going to cost me $400.00 for my tops ( which I have to go pay the $150.00 ) left that I owe. Then when I go in. They are just asking me to pay $600.00 up front and I can make payments for the rest. Which I will owe all together before that $600.00 is $1,700.00. That does include the IV. That is $300.00 per 30 mins. That's what I am paying up front. So the $1,100.00 is what I'll be paying on.
I have heard bad and good story's after they are pulled. So I am freaking out about what if. ??
In a 57 year old i had all my upper and lower removed a week ago,i agree the pain side is fine, but im finding the swelling side not so good im taking nurofen,i wasnt given antibiotics,my only other issue is what to eat as gums do tender,i had total of 18 teeth removed at same time, yes i had my new dentures made ready but unfortunately they were to big so now got to wait till 1st june ( three weeks) for them
Good luck, im having all mine pulled Thursday... kind of apprehensive but they need to go!! Good luck with your and I'm sure we will both enjoy smiling. Again without the rotted smile! God bless!! :-)
I get mine extraction July 14 something I have needed wanted and don't care if I have pain cause they are pain . 10 days healing and then my smile is in the works . love to have fun and laugh maybe this will allow me to keep my hands in my lap instead of over my smile ! I'm 56 and am excited
Did u have lots of bleeding

Hello Tina77
I as well as kaismama had my upper teeth pulled at age of 40, I am now 52... I was put to sleep as I hate going to the dentist... when I woke don't remember having any pain..didn't need opiates etc... took ibruprophen and I was fine... it's just the fear itself..trust me I no all to well, as I just had a tooth break/ it is inside of my gum so they r probably going to send me 2 oral surgeon..have to get paperwork off my pcp though for this new dentist won't touch anyone unless pcp says dental work can be done..so I have to get a letter..at his office he give's the gas, but he deals with the surgeon who pulled my top teeth many a yr ago..just do it... you won't be in dire pain trust me been there done that..and I am like you when it comes to dentist..you will be fine... my uppers where pulled in one day/ then took me less then two weeks for my denture...
good luck, but you won't need it, if they put you out when you wake you won't be feeling major pain..I'll tell you the truth I really didn't feel much at all... good luck/ keep us posted..
Chicken, get it fixed, lolol... I was never afraid of the dentist, guess that's why I could do it awake. I always was interested in dental surgery.
Thank you for being so kind. I have two broken teeth in my gums, it's my top teeth. I hear people say how much pain they were in. That makes me fear.. Of even making this set. They have already order my dentures. ;0). I have infections. They are worry to much of it is getting in my blood stream and will cause me to die at any min. ;0(. Lord knows i have pushed this as far out as u can. lol. I can't any more. I got married in 2008. But didn't have a wedding Bc I didn't want one if I couldn't smile, because of money. I hope if I over come this fear. That I'll someday be lucky enough to smile at my real wedding with my family and friends.

Hi I'm 44 and I just had all my top teeth pulled today and had the dentures put right in. I had 11 teeth that were broken off to the gum and 8 teeth that were still whole, well I was awake for the whole thing ( Which only lasted 50 minutes from the time I walked in the office till the time I walked out) well my numbness is now whereing off... the only discomfort I am feeling now is where I had the needles at... I have already eating a yogurt and drank a cup of coffee! ( thank god) and I am only taking ibuprofen for pain, but the dentist did tell me before I came in to take the ibuprofen, so it can already be working... well I don't know what's to come tonight, but so far so good! Cause I was a mess before I went... I was scared to death... now in 3months I go back to get the bottom ones done!! Thanks for all the information... it helped me alot with getting over my fear!!
Hi Tina77 wondering how did u go with the pain? Thinking about a top plate as I only have 2 back molars left & none of them r in good shape. I'm worried about the gums healing & pain in the first couple of weeks? Also how long did it take to get used to them? Thanks
Hello to all of you
Well I'm 39 years old and have had bad teeth my while life and pain is something I have zero tolerance for I'm a baby I panic bad and I'm terrified of dentist but can't afford to do the IV or be put to sleep because it cost alot more. But been reading all the comments which is nice to have people in the same situation as myself .I'll be going soon to have mine pulled and replaced with dentures .I had a partial put in on top in 2010 and now gotta go back and have my other ones pulled to have a whole plate put in so that money was wasted on partial. .I have an abscess in one of my top ones and bottom .
now so having to take antibiotics first .I'm just wondering shold I go ahead and do top and bottom at once? or just my top go later for bottom ? Does anyone know how hard it is to get use to top and bottom at same time ? Or how painful healing is from both top and bottom I have about 12 teeth which all but one is surgical only one tooth is reg extraction .Thank u all for any comment that may help.prayers for speedy recover for those who have done it already and for those who are about to .thanks
Our situations sound identical! How was it, because I'm next!
I am 57 years old. Always had a terrible fear of the dentist. I had an abusive dentist when I was a child. He would slap us if we cried. He was a mean old bastard. I had all my teeth poll I am 57 years old. Always had a terrible fear of dentist. I had an abusive dentist when I was a child. He would slap us if we cried. He was a mean old bastard. I had all my teeth pulled yesterday. The hard part is not getting them pulled. That actually was no problem because I was sedated. And did not feel a thing. The fun part begins when you get home you have to get used to the dentures. This is my second day and I’m not into much pain. Hope you get your teeth taken care of and good luck to you.
I had all my top teeth pulled, my denture put in, while I was awake, drove 30 miles home and went to work the next day. All I needed was some advil for pain.
Do you remember any of the pain. I think I am sitting here racking my brain out about it. That I'm freaking out..
I'm worry that the pain is going to be to much for me to handle. I have a very low-tolerance for pain.
The pain isn't that bad. Advil helped it.
I had 6 top teeth pulled today and a full denture put in. Before having this done, I wore a partial. I worried so much. I was asleep but a mild sleep since I'm very sensitive to depressants. An hour later, I was gently woken up but it seemed like only one minute! I'm also a Type 1 diabetic for 50 years. All went smoothly and even though my gums are still bleeding from the extractions, my teeth look very real and beautiful. My permanent denture will be made in a month to give my gums time to shrink first. My temp is wonderful though! Please don't worry... so many people have it done. It's no longer rare, the teeth look real and you'll love your new and perfect smile. So far, the pain is mild too. Just don't worry! Everything will be ok.
I find that hard believe number 1 they don't let you drive no 2 Advil only my option don't believe it. I'm saying I had all my upper out denture in still a lot pain and need my meds
I have to have all 14 teeth pulled in dentist chair and top and bottom dentures out in I am scared to death how can I relax about this
I had all teeth in my mouth pulled top and bottom. Pain afterwards was minimal. Certainly less than I was already experiencing daily due to broken and sensitive teeth
Don't do it
And that's not much help bc that's not exactly typical results. Anyway, you're so lucky in this situation but if your luck is like mine, when you least expect it, try to be prepared. Everything In life isn't always so perfect for everyone.
You are full of BS!
