When i was younger my mother couldn't afford a lot so i had bad teeth, when i was 15 i moved in with my father who took me to the dentist all the time. every month it seemed like. I was hurt once and because i was getting older i had to go to adult dentist which they treat you different then when your a kid. It up set me to never go back.
I also have XLH also know as Rickets. affect your Vitem-D and bones ect.
Now the time has come for me to have all top teeth pulled. I am having the IV to be put as far out as i can because I can't come to grips of doing this with out it. I cry and freak out the closer it gets to my appt. I have cancel to many times. lol
My mother got hers at 25 i think and i am 33.
What can I expect after they are pulled and I start to wake up?

You will be okay. I had my uppers pulled 2 weeks ago. I was beyond terrified because I have massive anxiety and I’m terrified of dental pain. I cancelled my operation 3x before I finally accepted it was going to happen. The second I accepted it, I was fine. I had twilight sedation and they gave me several Ativan for the night before and the day of surgery. They also gave me laughing gas first, then the sedation (twilight sleep). It was awesome! I was given Toradol and Tramadol for pain. Surprisingly the non narcotic Toradol worked best. Highly recommend. The denture itself is fine we’ll but it takes time to get it aligned properly. My best advise is trust you can get through it. I thought I would be in agony and unable to talk for a month…I was basically ok a few days later. It’s a big deal, you know? Don’t worry about your age. It’s sad but it is what it is.
At least you’ll safe thousands and thousands of dental bills over the years! Pls talk to Dr/Dentist again so that you’ll be given proper meds. Tell them you have horrible anxiety and you want something. It’s BS all you need is Tylenol unless you’re a superhuman. Lol. Some are when it comes to pain. Me? No, I’m a baby. Have someone care for you after surgery. My face was swollen and I looked like I had 2 black/orange eyes..I looked like hell but it was manageable. I was feeling like normal about 5 days in. I would advise doing it in a Friday if you can’t get more time off. Seriously I’m like..if I can do it..anyone can..that’s how sensitive and avoidant I am to pain and anxiety. One day at a time..you really will be okay.
Since each one of us is made differently, there can not possibly be a universal pain protocol based solely on medical procedure. Everyone is wired differently and have different pain thresholds. Most people have experienced times in the past where they used OTC pain meds and/or prescription pain meds and this could help when discussing pain meds with your surgeon. If their pain prescription is something you’ve had in the past and was not effective for you, let them know. If you can, let them know what has worked for you. And you should never suffer it out if a doctor-recommended pain reliever isn’t giving you the comfort you need. Call them and get something stronger. Be specific if you have researched and/or have a friend who might help to know something that worked for them.
In two weeks I am having all the teeth in my mouth removed (16). I am scared beyond words to be awake during this process. I am a smoker at that.
I just had 12 teeth pulled and 3 of those had to be cut out and the jaw bone scaled and I also have 8 stitches. I chose nitrous oxide gas in hopes that it would help be it didn’t work like I thought it would I was very much aware of what was going on. It was very painful until it was numb. It took over 3 hours to get the teeth out and when I was done I was able to drive home. The horror Starts when the numbness wore off . Iv never had that much pain and I’ve had several surgeries. From under my cheek bones to under my chin is black from bruises and swollen big time . The doctor gave me a prescription of ibuprofen and tramadol and it was touching pain. I’m on day 4 and still praying I’ll make it through it. This journey is tough to say the least. Teeth out 1/28/20
I appreciate all the responses - In 2 hours I am getting my remaining teeth pulled - 2 uppers and 11 lowers - Dentures to go in immediately. I have very high anxiety when it comes to dentist - my old dentist would prescribe medication for me before I came in to relax - but not this one. I have some of my own that I will be taking. Second - dentist dont give pain meds anymore - but I am on pain management for my back issues - plan on taking one before I arrive at office. I have my music on phone with ear phones - that has always helped with anxiety - dont hear dental equipment. I have tried 3 partials in past and they never fit right - was told by previous dentist to wait and get a full denture. My plan was getting top done and then 3 weeks later the bottom but the new dentist convinced me its better to do all at once.
So I am now telling myself that after today I will NEVER have to get another tooth pulled -I have had dry socket a lot before from extractions because I smoke - but he assured me that getting dentures but in immediately afterwards would work as a protection - made sense to me. I want to smile again ! I just went on a cruise and got so many negative looks because of my teeth - so now I am doing something about that
I just had all my teeth pulled at once I had dentures put in right after I was so nervous I think the worst part was the numbing shots if i didn't get the laughing gas i would not been able to do it
Each person is different. I am almost 60 had the rest of my teeth pulled (28), top & bottom with immediate dentures. I had oral surgeon was put under. Yes pain & excessive bleeding. Day two I looked like a beat up chipmunk. Day 7 mostly yellow bruising but all the way down my neck. I did use pain pills the first 3 days with ibuprofen for swelling. Ice packs & moist heat are your friend. Immediate dentures are best way to go in my opinion. Feel much better health wise, and love my new teeth. Lots of liquids high in protein to add in the healing process. Very glad I did it wish I had done it sooner.
Just had mine pulled on Wed 8 on the top 4 on the bottom, also 4 implant posts put in on the top, stitched up mouth and put it temporary denture and sent me on my way, I have not needed anything but tylenol and advil for pain and mouth is healing nicely, I was so worried at first and about 40 min in he said 9 teeth out I was like wow I didn't even know that he started pulling them didn't even feel the pressure, it went very smooth!!
hey so im going to get all my teeth pulled (im 15) and Im scared for my life how should I get ready for it?
They pulled all my teeth from the top except from my wisdom teeth and the molar immediately in front if them. Still to get 5 of my most front teeth removed. Had 8 teeth taken from my bottom jaw too. Can tell you from my experience the worst pain from the whole experience was the numbing injections lol. I was afraid to go the dentist and now I've had 4 appointments in 4 weeks and I love going each time. Do not worry about it at all
I just had 17 teeth pulled at the same time and I'm really surprised that it didn't hurt that bad. I've had 1/4 of my lung cut off when I was younger. I always compared pain to that being a 10 and the teeth i would say was 3 at the most.
Any pain you have now from the bad teeth is 1000 times worse than the pain you will NOT have after you get them pulled out under gas. Believe me. You'll wonder why you ever waited. The soreness, tenderness and bleeding is very manageable and not long lasting.
I wish you well
Hi Tina
I’m sure by now you have had your procedure done!!! I have kind of the same story my mother neglecting me/my teeth and when I went to go live with my dad he helped a little bit when I was a teenager and felt like every month I was at the dentist but I wasn’t at a pediatric dentist I was at an adult dentist and he was one of the nastiest dentist in the world. So I was scarred and scared to go to the dentist which led me to letting my mouth just right away.
Plus I LOVE candy!!! And probably didn’t brush well enough. Fast forward 30 plus years later I decided I had to do something... Last Thursday afternoon I had my teeth extracted (only top teeth). I was super nervous and I canceled at least four times until I finally gain the strength to just go in and do it because the pain in my mouth was unbearable (I had an abscess). So the day I had my extraction the doctor sent me home with 12 pills (5/325) I consider that baby aspirin!! lol
Anyway the pain medicine did not work for me at all I am in excruciating pain still, days later. It’s mostly on the injection sites of from the novacaine. Anyway the pain medicine did not work for me at all I am in excruciating pain for days later mostly on my injection sites from novocaine. Along with bruising and soreness I’m a not doing to good. I hope you had a good outcome
Having teeth pulled was worse psychologically then in actuality. I left with plate in and looked great. 3 days later I had indescribable pain removing and worse putting plate in. I have 4 ulcerative sores from denture rubbing and have had 2 adjustments so far. I'm a 60 year old with very high pain threshold... I cry like a baby when I put them in. Also takes a while to get brave enough to do it. Today is day 11.
Anyone else get sores.
Lots of pain putting in taking out bottom plate, it has been 6 days. Could something be wrong
I had all my upper teeth pulled last year with just Novocain. I didn't feel a thing. The pain wasn't bad at all. The bleeding stopped after 24 hours or so. The swelling lasted about a week. It took me 2-3 weeks to really start getting used to my denture. Very glad I had it done, though. I certainly couldn't afford root canals and crowns. I'm having all my lower teeth pulled next month.
