Should you have regular blood tests to monitor blood sugar when taking metformin?

my husband is taking 500mg of metformin twice daily and has no regular blood test to check his blood sugar. He has been on this drug for several years. i am concerned

How long after stopping Metformin will the diarrhea stop?

Metformin - metfomin increased my morning blood sugar?

My blood sugar was 120 every morning, then I started metformin 500mg with a meal this is day 3. Every day I took metformin my blood sugar was 152, I thought it was supposed to decrease my BS, not increase it. So in other words my sugar is higher now than ever before!?

Does Metformin cause severe coughing?

I am an 80 year old female who takes 1000 units of Metformin (1000 am and 1000 pm) I have developed a very bad cough and nothing helps (not even Virtussin AC syrup). I think it is caused from the Metformin. Thank you for your assistance.
