my husband is taking 500mg of metformin twice daily and has no regular blood test to check his blood sugar. He has been on this drug for several years. i am concerned
Should you have regular blood tests to monitor blood sugar when taking metformin?

The dr just said this was to prevent diabeties, he did not havre it yet he said it was a preventative measure. I thought the Dr (an internist ) should check his blood sugar on a regular basis
They will check his HbA1c, which is a nice little test that averages out what his glucose has been over the last 3 months. If that hasn't been done since he has been on it then smack your doctor... mentally of course. It is possible if your husband has made lifestyles changes to prevent diabetes than he can get off the metformin.
