Since I switched to escitalopram my sugar levels have been lower. I currently take medication for diabetes but I have been dealing with low blood sugar. Any correlation in changing SSRI and blood sugar levels?
Can escitalopram affect you blood sugar levels. I was diagnosed as pre diabetic while I was on Paxil

Hi, Nanics!
Although uncommon to rare both these medications can cause both hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
Everyone responds differently to medications and I guess it's possible that the escitalopram may be contributing to your low sugar levels.
You probably should discuss this with your doctor or endocrinologist.
Thanks Wildcat. I will talk to my doctor. I suspect he may have to adjust my diabetes medication
So I had my blood work done yesterday and my levels went down another 7%. Interesting that since I switch from Paxil to Cipralex they have been going down regularly. Will talk to my doctor.
That is very strange! Post an update if you will.
Thanks!
I will. I read somewhere that said that escitalopram and a few other SSRI’s actually can do double duties and help control sugar levels but paroxitine was not one of them. Interesting indeed.
I found the article. It is By the American Psychosomatic Society. An article published is 2019. Re: May 16, 2019
