My Mirena has been out for over 9 months, & not 1 period. I have had blood work done for pregnancy, my thyroid, & other possible issues. We have had scans done & an internal ultrasound to ensure its not cancer, all came back fine. Could this have been caused by the mirena? I have looked for similiar situations, but most people eventually start after 3-4 months, but I have seen nothing like extending out to over 9 months.
We had it removed so we could try to have another baby, & now Im literally infertile because Im not menstrating. Im 27 years old, with two children that I am very thankful for, but I always knew I wanted another eventually whivh is why I had the Mirena put in so I could take it out & get pregnant when we felt the time was right. I had my first one put in Nov 2008, removed & replaced Nov 2013, & then the new one removed Feb 2014. Since then, nothing. We dont know what to do, & my doctor is completely stumped. If anyone has had a similiar situation please help, we thought this was suppose to be a happy time trying to get pregnant & adding to our family, thank you!

It's been 19 months after my mirena removal. Still no period. I'm 31. All my hormones are normal. I had an US and no abnormalities. Idk what is going on and why I can't get pregnant. I don't have any children and I've always wanted 1. Please let me know if you found out what happened to you.
Try vitex. I recommended it after long term artificial hormones are leaving people unable to conceive or want regular periods again. It helped me & has helped many other women. Have look into it. You can get it in health stores or online. It may take anywhere from weeks to months.
You can't use it with hormonal birth control.
I am both happy and angry hearing other people's experiences. Obviously this has been a concern for many people for a number of years, and because it's a "rare" effect of Mirena it has not been researched.
I got Mirena out a year ago and my period never came back. I never missed a period before I got it in, had it for 4 years. They can't find anything wrong with my ovaries, but a lot of my hormone levels are low since the IUD. The doctors can't find anything to have caused it, I can't help feeling like it has to be related to the IUD. No research to prove this yet, but clearly there needs to be more. All the doctors just say that there's no reason an IUD should have this affect. But clearly, it does. I don't want to take hormones to induce my period the rest of my life, but I'm told it's not healthy to have low estrogen, and I might want to get pregnant at some point. The docs said "maybe you're stressed and that's why."
News flash, I was stressed when I got my periods, too.
I was in the same boat after years on the contraceptive injection. After a lot of medical intervention that didn't work for long (D&C, drugs etc), I tried vitex & it got my periods back to regular. Took a couple of months. Worth looking into if you've not already.
You can't use it if you're relying on hormonal birth control, because that deliberately creates a hormonal imbalance, to prevent pregnancy, whereas vitex balances your hormones naturally, so they'd work against each other & you could become pregnant.
You can get it in health stores or online.
It has been over 2 years since I had my IUD out and still no period. I have had testing done but doctors can’t find anything. I have not had any children but would like too. I fear that I am now infertile. Did anyone here get any answers about what might be wrong?
I recommend trying vitex, as it helped me get my fertility back after years on Depo Provera. It balances your hormones. You can get it at health stores. In a few months it made a huge difference to my menstrual cycle. You can't use it if you're using hormonal birth control, as they'd work against each other (hormonal birth control works to create a deliberate imbalance to prevent pregnancy. Otherwise, it's been really helpful.

Evening all, a little bit of news for you all, my periods never returned to normal, were every other month. My Dr was not concerned in the least, which annoyed me! However, don't give up hope as I have recently found out I am 11 weeks pregnant... so whilst things may not be 'normal' there is still the chance you could conceive xxx
I am thinking about suing Planned Parenthood because I have not received my menstrual either. This was never suppose to happen. Now if I ever want to have another baby I will not be able to because they failed to me know.
I did go to my ob/gyn about this. Apparently I was tested 3 years ago about menopausal. They said I was menopausal, but didn't say which part. After blood tests, i am post menopausal. So I can't have anymore kids. Thank gosh I have 2 kids already, and I made my husband get a vasectomy due to health issues, I had to be off all birth control. So I made him get that for nothing, not happy about that.
Even if you get your period back you could be screwed!!!
I'm 40 yo been TTC for 15 months. My story is not as "bad" but still heartbreaking. In my teens and 20s my period was regular and heavy every 28 days. Horrible cramps PMS the works but was fertile! Got pregnant EASILY 3x. My kids are now 14,17,20 yo.
Fast forward: I had mirena 3 times for a total of 13 years. Thought I was done TTC. Got married 9 months ago! We've been TTC since June of 2018. Had Mirena removed April 17 2018. I had a light period every month while on my last Mirena. And I have had a regular period every month since removal BUT my lining is THIN!
I only just recently have started having cramps (as I type). My period is 2 days of Light and 1 day of Medium flow - 2 days Medium flow if I'm lucky! 6mm has been my max at ovulation :(
I've tried everything... been to fertility specialist. I ovulate every month, HSG was good, husbands "stuff" is excellent... had hormones checked and thyroid.
Just can't get a baby to stick :/ I'm so sad. So discouraged. So angry at times.
I chart my cycles and the only thing I have noticed is that the one period that was with only one "heavy" day of bleeding back in Feb 2019 was after taking baby aspirin only during follicular phase for a few months. I quit taking the aspirin and I have been back to Light Medium Light...
I am Cd1 today and again no baby )even though some months I swear we've successfully fertilized and baby is trying to implant) and I will try aspirin CD1-12 again for the next few months and I hope I remember to reply back. Maybe I'll look into vitex (the only thing I haven't tried out of all the fruits and pills and ... *sigh*)
Please update ladies. It feels comforting to read others experiences.
Hi, I am going through the same thing you are. I had 2 rounds of the mirena, got it taken out in December 2018. I had 1 regular period in February-March, then was off for a week, and had it back again. I haven't had one since than. I go to doctor next week about it. I do know I have other health issues too, but not sure if the mirena caused all my issues. Apparently 3 years ago I started going into menopause and I have behcets disease now too. Not sure why I get all this stuff.
Try using vitex for a few months. Totally natural. Do some research on it. Sorted me with a similar situation.
I realize this is an old posting but I just had to comment. If you are thinking about getting Mirena, please think twice. I had it inserted after my third child (I’m not planning on having anymore). I was having heavy, long periods before the Mirena. It was working well until it spontaneously dislodged. It was fully removed and I had expected to go back to having regular periods. Well... that didn’t happen. I have had it out for 4 years now and my periods are completely messed up. When it first came out I didn’t have a period for 2 years. Then one August day, I started a normal period that over the course of several days turned into flooding. It was so bad I couldn’t get out of bed and it was just a mess. After that... nothing, just occasional spotting for just one day every three to 4 months. My dr put me on meds to induce a period. I was told that the lack of a period for more than three months increases the risk of uterine cancer.
I’ve been tested for lots of things and all my blood work is normal. I finally began to have 1-2 day spotting once a month... and I do not have to take the meds anymore... spotting still counts as a period. I still experience a flooding period once per year. I’m convinced that Mirena causes infertility. If you r trying to get pregnant after Mirena, i would suggest seeing a fertility specialist to see if they can help.
I am just horrified every time I see a post in relation to the Mirena Coil and the devastation it has caused women’s health and most especially affected their fertility. I had the Mirena inserted in August 15 at 45, I’ve no children, it was to combat severe periods as it was affecting my Epilepsy. I had a completely normal cycle up to the Mirena, I’d my hormones checked regulary etc. The first month was horrific I bled constantly for 30 days and I constantly had ST’s with me in case I bled. It eased off slightly and I found a huge change in my mood. I was very angry, I felt a bit low, my libido was zero, then I developed a serious skin rash that no one could figure out I developed UTI’s nearly every month, I couldn’t sleep. After missing a huge amount of time from work and my Epilepsy was affected I decided to have it removed in October 16. I was told that I would have severe bleeding and that my cycly would return.
I didn’t have to put on as much as a panty liner. And since then I never had another period but after attending my Obyng I insisted on tests I had bladder problems, fatigue, and I asked for my hormone levels to be checked I was in early menopause. No one ever associated the two. I felt like I was going mad. I was preventing from going on holidays in that year because of the UTI’s and lack of sleep. I asked for further tests a year later as I’d had no period and I was fully menopausal. I had to beg for a form of HRT the Evorel patch which has stopped the UTI’s hot flushes etc. It was the worst decision that I ever made and from all the forums that I’ve read it definitely affects fertility. I hope that your situation improves.
I has 3 Mirena IUD’s in me. The 1st... went pretty well.. The 2nd was removed before the 5 years because my doctors implied that could be causing my lower back pain... My period started as heavy to normal. After a couple of months I realized it was not causing my back pain.. So back on Mirena number 3... after 2 years with it... I kept smelling blood a faint smell but... It was there... Consulted with my doctor got it removed.. Spotted the first 3 days.. Then my period came... It lasted more than 14 days... It has been over 35 days and I haven’t had a second period ... I’m 39 years old with 1 child
Hello ladies, I found this string, realise it has been going on for a while. I had the mirena fitted in January 2013 after the birth of my 2nd child, was ideal for me, long term/no periods etc and was told everything would return to normal on removal. I had it taken out in October and went onto the pill (microgynon) as we are planning on trying for baby no3 this April. Since removal I'm yet to have a period, even when on break week from the pill - nothing and I believe the pill should cause a bleed regardless. My Dr was concerned at my last appt for new pill prescription and told me to keep an eye on it but still nothing. I have an appointment on the 28th of this month but I'm stressing so much and this thread has made it worse lol
