My Mirena has been out for over 9 months, & not 1 period. I have had blood work done for pregnancy, my thyroid, & other possible issues. We have had scans done & an internal ultrasound to ensure its not cancer, all came back fine. Could this have been caused by the mirena? I have looked for similiar situations, but most people eventually start after 3-4 months, but I have seen nothing like extending out to over 9 months.
We had it removed so we could try to have another baby, & now Im literally infertile because Im not menstrating. Im 27 years old, with two children that I am very thankful for, but I always knew I wanted another eventually whivh is why I had the Mirena put in so I could take it out & get pregnant when we felt the time was right. I had my first one put in Nov 2008, removed & replaced Nov 2013, & then the new one removed Feb 2014. Since then, nothing. We dont know what to do, & my doctor is completely stumped. If anyone has had a similiar situation please help, we thought this was suppose to be a happy time trying to get pregnant & adding to our family, thank you!
Still no period after 9 months of having Mirena removed?

I see a lot of people posting regarding not having a cycle after removal for years at a time. I wish that was me. I got the mirena because I didn’t want cycles. I have two children already so no, I don’t want anymore children. I haven’t had my morena long, only 2 months and I’m disgusted with it. I have been spotting and menstrating every day since I had it inserted. I’m having it removed in 2 weeks and I couldn’t be more happy to go right on back to my faithful pills. I did want to suggest Clomid for all of you who have had no cycles. I had this issue before I conceived my daughter (5years ago). I didn’t have my own cycle for months (only had 2-3 a year). I had a vaginal ultrasound and found out that I had PCOS and wasn’t ovulating so my ob/gyn suggested clomid. I had regular cycles for the three months I was trying it and boom there was the
I posted a while back about having a mirena in for 5 years and not getting a period barely at all. I sent to get my hormone levels checked and all tests came up normal. But, still no period. Almost two years have gone by and I gave up hope since I wasn't getting a cycle. Miraculously I went to my primary care doctor because I wasn't feeling well and found out we are pregnant. Then a couple of weeks later, found out we were having twins. Fraternal twins, which means I dropped 2 eggs. Twins do not run in either my family nor my husband. I just had my beautiful babies. So, don't give up hope ladies. Iit can happen even with no periods.
I had the marina in for 6 years. About 3 months ago i got it removed. Ive only had a period once that only lasted 2 days. Since then nothing. I hope im not infertile. I just turned 38 yrs old and I really want another baby before i turn 40.
I had Mirena inserted in May of 2015, and I had it removed on July 31st of 2018. During my time with this terrible device, I had random spotting, maybe 2-3 "real" periods (each lasting less than 4 days), bad cramps, mood swings, and I developed acne on my shoulders.
Once I had the IUD removed, I bled for a month straight. It was heavy the entire time; I went through 4 boxes of tampons and 1 pack of pads. I finally quit bleeding around September 5th. I suppose that would make me due for my period about now, but there is no sign of it.
After reading this thread, I am incredibly nervous that I may never have a period again. I am 29, and a baby is in our 3-5 year plan. So this would be absolutely devastating. I read through everything carefully and consulted with my nurse before deciding on Mirena, so this is absolutely horrible to read :(
I had Mirena for 8 years. I did studies that said it was safe to keep it in longer.
I’ve had a miscarriage, endometriosis and have not had bleeding.
I’m wishing I’d never gotten it though I’m thankful I didn’t try to have babies then.
Now I’m 33 and I am pretty certain I’m infertile.
It’s been out for 9 months.
Do some research into Vitex. A lot of people have had luck with that rebalancing their hormones after using artificial hormones in birth control, me included.
You can't use it at the same time as hormonal birth control, as it's so effective, it will work against the regular birth control.
Hormonal birth control works by deliberately causing an imbalance of your hormones.
Vitex works to balance them.
It goes by a few different names.
Also, (& this one will sound far fetched, but again, do research for yourself) get aspartame out of your food & drink. It's an artificial sweetener that is thought to have been stopping lots of women conceive. It's in loads of stuff!
I listened to a lady doctor talking about women having amazing results of getting pregnant when cutting that out of their diet. It was on a you tube radio show. You may be able to find it if you search on there.
Again, don't take my word for any of this. Please do your own research. I can only give my experience & opinions.
I had two Mirenas... 5 yrs and 2 years. Took out Jan 2018... had four cycles... now zip for two months, but I am still ovulating (I think). I am 39... so maybe I'm just done with that right of passage early, but family history wise is way to early. If the IUD is causing infertility... something more needs to be communicated. I go to my doctor in two weeks to see if my egg timer is up? Makes me sad.
I am 25 and have the same problem. I has my Mirena removed when my daughter was two so we could try for another. My period never returned. I had several blood tests and my doctor tried several things to get my period to return.my doc. Was unable to.explain why i was not having a cycle. After 2 years I went to a fertity specialist and successfully concieved with hormone injections, but again after the birth of my second child my cycle never returned. The only thing I can come up with is that it is caused by the IUD
I am in the same boat. I had my mirena removed and my periods never came back. Could you please tell me the name of the hormone shots you were given that helped you to conceive again? Please. I am running out of time and money. I desperately want another baby as my last baby passed. Thank you so much, MahCohen
I had mine removed in 2014 still no period. And now it's 2018. My doctor as well doesn't know the reason why. I
Hi ladies,
I'm in the same boat as most of you on here but yet I'm getting a little more nervous as the days go by with still no period. I got my mirena removed on March 15th. Had it in since June 2011, then removed and replaced in 2016. Final removement was march 2018.Few days later was blood with I wiped but then stopped. Had some cramping here and there. I just wish it would come already due to feeling uncomfortable and blowed.
I am 28, going on 29. I had my Mirena IUD inserted July 2013 and after almost 4.5 years had it removed December 2017. Prior to Mirena my periods and cycle were very regular, my last period was August 2013. My husband and I decided to start TTC so I made the appointment to have my Mirena removed, my family doctor even advised me once removed I could get pregnant. I had a faint "period" 2-3 days after removal of the Mirena. I have had no other spotting or sign of a period since. I have taken several HPT all negative.
I have been trying to find other stories of women experiencing a delay in a return of their period like me after finding this chain I am terrified I made a horrible decision when I chose Mirena.
As there were not many updates when I found this thread myself I thought I would follow up. I posted approximately 20 days ago originally, I fortunately have now begun my period, 68 days after having the Mirena IUD removed.
Nine days ago I began light spotting every other day for 7 days. The past two days I have had my period. It began slow mid-day however, by the evening I was in extreme discomfort from the cramps. Day 2 was the worst period I have ever had, I experienced a very heavy flow. I bled through several tampons and pads having to switch out tampons every 30 minutes to an hour for 6-7 hours with light cramping. I noticed a range of "stuff" for lack of a better word shed as well. Today is day 3 my period is much more manageable now more of a medium flow and little cramping so far, more fatigue.
I hope this information is helpful, I know how upset and worried I was after finding some of the information I found online.
The good news is there is still hope. After taking progesterone shortly I was able to get my period again. I still wasn't ovulating on my own but after a few rounds of clomid, but I am now pregnant.
My daughter is going through the same thing and I worry something is really wrong. I feel like all these women have been misinformed and someone needs to set it straight, I worry that this could cause other issues down the road.
My daughter has not only a missing period, but now she is having skin issues, hair lose and other unnatural issues at her age.
I have exactly the same issues! Weight gain, hair loss, skin issues. No period.
I had a Mirena from about age 27 to 32. Before this I always had regular periods. When the Mirena was taken out, I had 2-3 periods then absolutely nothing for 18 months. During this 18 months I was TTC, and so sought fertility treatment including Clomid and IVF. After 4 failed rounds of IVF, and deciding to have a break, I finally got a period. I then got acupuncture and herb suppprt from a Chinese medicine practitioner, which maintained my period and I was pregnant 2 months later. I have since fallen pregnant 2 further times naturally and quickly.
I removed my mirena myself (it was actually very easy and painless) after struggling for 2 years with bacterial vaginosis infections that seemed to be related to having the mirena and being told that my OB/GYN couldn't see me for over a month once I had decided I wanted it out ASAP. I am an RN and did some research and found that many women have removed it themselves, I am not encouraging you to do it just saying I felt confident that I could and I did with out any issues. I expected to get my period after that and I did have some spotting and some strange magenta thick discharge but no real menses. Now I have the Mirena out I have not had a period for 8 months, had blood tests to check for pregnancy and menopause and neither are present. I recently was put on 10 days of progesterone in hopes that once the 10 days was over the drop in progesterone would cause my uterine lining to shed. I finished that 8 days ago.
I felt like I had PMS the first 3 days, then I started spotting brown yucky stuff. Then a very small amount of fresh red blood ( not even enough to fill a light tampon. and now there is nothing and I think I have bacterial vaginosis again. So now my birth control is that my vagina smells like a fish (sorry to be blunt but I wanted to put this in here just in case other women are having this problem). I am beyond frustrated and I feel like there needs to be a lawsuit. My OB/GYN was shocked that I took the thing out myself (wich is stupid because it comes out very easily) And She doesn't seem to think that the no menses and bacterial vaginosis has anything to do with the mirena because It is no longer in my body (even though it all started when it was in). She kind of rolls her eyes when I suggest that I think it is all due to the Mirena. I am glad I have found this post because I don't feel so alone now. Has anyone heard anything about a lawsuit? This is totally unacceptable. I am thinking of asking for a hysterectomy, Luckily I am not looking to have children. If I was I would be contacting a lawyer.
