My Mirena has been out for over 9 months, & not 1 period. I have had blood work done for pregnancy, my thyroid, & other possible issues. We have had scans done & an internal ultrasound to ensure its not cancer, all came back fine. Could this have been caused by the mirena? I have looked for similiar situations, but most people eventually start after 3-4 months, but I have seen nothing like extending out to over 9 months.
We had it removed so we could try to have another baby, & now Im literally infertile because Im not menstrating. Im 27 years old, with two children that I am very thankful for, but I always knew I wanted another eventually whivh is why I had the Mirena put in so I could take it out & get pregnant when we felt the time was right. I had my first one put in Nov 2008, removed & replaced Nov 2013, & then the new one removed Feb 2014. Since then, nothing. We dont know what to do, & my doctor is completely stumped. If anyone has had a similiar situation please help, we thought this was suppose to be a happy time trying to get pregnant & adding to our family, thank you!
Still no period after 9 months of having Mirena removed?

Hi I had my minera coil out on 28th sept and had a period on October 2nd-7th. It was very heavy and lots of clots.
My husband and I have not been ttc yet as I have been waiting for a normal period.
After reading these posts I feel sick. I haven't had another yet and now I'm worried I might not.
On the minera website it says up to 6 weeks is normal so hoping that this is me. Though from reading your experiences it's likely that I won't be ovulating.
I hated having it in and got it out after having it in for 4 years. I'm just grateful that I already have two girls but I do feel completely devastated that This coil might have ruined my fertility.
If you want to have children DO NOT get the Mirena...
Yes it causes infertility based on everything I've read from other people and all the doctors saying it has been linked to infertility. If you have it now, get it out!
After I had my out in I started having medical problems!!! Lots of them.. I asked my ob/gyn if it's from the mirena and he said no. BUT based on my research it in fact WAS from the Mirena!!!
I had mine removed after 4 years and tried to get pregnant for 3 years. I finally just gave up! My progesterone is a little low but everything else "appears" to be normal. I did try progesterone pills but they made me feel VERY, VERY drugged and I had to stop taking them!!!
The Mirena is TERRIBLE and I never recommend it. Even if your done having children I'd choose something else based on all the health problems it causes for people!
I had all the tests run and I don't have pre-menopause, I'm not running low on eggs, and I didn't have a diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease or anything else.
Good luck ya'll..
I'm having the same problem. Facts about me, I'm 28yo 5'3 200+lbs, Native American, I had my son in 2010 via c-section.
I've been prescribed medication to start my periods for the last 2 months. I stopped this month hoping it would kick start my periods but still nothing. Now I'll be taking my meds until I update my doctor that I wanna try for a baby next year. Other tests hormones and such came back NORMAL!!
I had Mirena after my son in 2011.
MIRENA removed July 2015 bled for 4 weeks and 2 months of periods, then nothing again since November 2015.
This is devastating since my boyfriend is 34 and wants a baby just as much as me. This would be his first child and I have my 6yo son.
Please give updates and suggestions.
I had my Mirena in for 5 years and recently got married. My husband and I decided we wanted to yet and have a baby together since we both have daughters from previous relationships. Before I got the mirena I was highly fertile which led me to looking for something like mirena which would be more reliable in my eyes. I read every piece of info I could find and not once did I read anything that mentioned infertility as a possibility. Since the removal I have only had 2 cycles which were short and definitely not my normal cycles. It's now been about 6 months since the removal with no signs of a cycle in the last 4 months. All my tests have come back normal. I'm so confused. We really want to have a child together before we get too close to 40. Has anyone had this issue and found a way to conceive?
My update, it has now been over 2 years since I've had the Mirena removed and still never attained a regular cycle. My husband and I continuously tried to conceive for about a year after removal but ended up giving up due to nothing happening. Out of the blue with still no regular cycle, we found out that we are pregnant! I really didn't think it was possible without seeing a regular cycle or even gabbing a cycle for months prior. How this gives you all a little hope.
I know this post is old but I’ve had mine out for a year and also no period at all. No one told me this could happen. I am very very upset. I have never had any children and I was planning on it. Now? I’m beyond upset.
Hi im new here. I had the marina coil put in 3 years ago never got a bleed with it. We decided we wanted a baby so had it removed 7 months ago still no period had bloods done waiting on results have an appointment for a scan in february to see if my ovaries are blocked and am awaiting to be put on ovulation tablets to see if they help i had my daughter at 38 im 43 now and never had fertility problems my doctor said i should of had a bleed straight after marina been removed. I had one small bleed for about 1 hr that was it. Feeling awful now as i think my chances of having a baby are gone.
I am now going on 7 months of having the mirena out. Still no menstrual cycle. I have had a lot of blood work done and everything has come back "normal". I feel like my body still hasn't evened out from the hormones for the mirena. I regret having it put in and have been telling all of the women I know to be sure not to use it because of the problems I have had. I hope it gets pulled off the market.
I'm in the same boat, but not for as long... I had my IUD in after I had my daughter in February 2013 when I was 27 (Turning 28) I got a period right after it was implanted that lasted until March of that year and then it completely stopped and I still haven't had a period since. I thought my period start on Sept 3rd, but it was some heavy spotting which completely stopped.
My husband and I thought we only wanted one child, but decided recently that we wanted one more. I just turned 31 and I'm completely dumbfounded..
I am in the same boat. Almost three years and still no period. Had Mirena in for five years from age 30-35.
I've never had a child and had the mirena in an attempt to finish school. Now I'm at 2 months no period. What if I'm infertile this is keeping me awake at night I'm devastated
Hi there,
I'm not sure If you will get this, as its been a while since you asked the question.
I'm in the same boat as you were when you asked the question.
I had the mirena inserted 6 years ago, straight after my 2nd son. I Was told that it was fabulous, perfect for what we needed at the time. Then take it out and have another baby.
A couple of months after having it in, my skin went awful, my hormones went haywire and obviously no periods. But i didn't put the two together till i read about things on the Internet, and pieced the puzzle together.
I had it removed 2 years ago, and still sadly nothing.
The doctor says my hormones are fine. My skin is very slowly getting better. But I'm on constant antibiotics, and i have scaring on my face. I never had acne until i had the Mirena...
But the biggest problem is no periods...
I'm wondering whether after all this time, you worked out anything? Did you get them? Did you fall pregnant??
Any help, info you could provide would be amazing!!!
I'm in Australia, looking into the possibility of a class action against Bayer.
It's absolutely ridiculous that they are still inserting these atrocious devices into women. There are 100's of 1000's of women with complaints about the device!
Anyway, fingers crossed you get this!!!

This answer was posted a while ago, but I am doing some searching because I have had crazy side effects since having the mirena removed. I had it removed for negative side effects as well as in the hopes that we could get pregnant again, but my hormones have been crazy and I still haven't gotten my period back after four months. I keep taking ovulation tests to see if I am ovulating but I am getting nothing. I regret so much having the mirena put in. I was told it was so easy and no side effects.
I was told the same thing. But I'm still struggling. However, the weird thing is, my hormones are "normal" but still no periods... i have no answers. And no doctor can seem to help me. So I'm seeing a fertility specialist to see if I'm even fertile anymore. Acne is starting to heal up, but I'm on 6 months worth of minocycline... however im still left with the scarring.
Im even researching class action against them, because there are so many women in the same boat. It's so awful to hear... keep in touch.
I'm freaking out its been 62 days without a period IVE NEVER HAD A BABY. I got the mirena in place to finish school and am getting married in August and am now frightened I'm Infertile. I will be visiting the doctor soon.
Is there a class action? I want a baby and haven't had a period for 3 months now
I got the mirena after my twins were born had it for 5 yrs took it out and was pregnant within 8 months. Put it back in once baby #4 was born had it for a little over a year took it out and got pregnant within 3 months. Put it back in after baby #5. I've had this one for 31/2 yrs. started experiencing weird things not being able to regulate my temperature. Can't lose weight so I went and had my thyroid tested and the dr decided to do a full blood work up.. found out I'm in pre menopause . Dr told me get mirena out immediately that's its horrible for your body and they never tell you how the hormones mess you up. I got it taken out April 27th no nleeding just cramps and back ache. Dr did put me on some thyroid meds and said sometimes that can help reset your symptoms. Keri g my fingers crossed that my body will reset itself ... I'm just upset because I would have never put it in or had it for so long had I.known this could be a side effect.
I never had a period with it at all. The hormone in it stops you from ovulating. I think after so long my body just stopped. Hit flashes are terrible:/
My daughter had her Mirena removed a year ago due to it mislodging. To this day she still has not had a period. A week ago she collapsed in severe pain. When taken to the er she was told that she had a very large cyst on her ovary and that it is possibly one that will need to be surgically removed. She is in the process of also having several tests done as they do not think she is producing any hormones. My daughter is going to be 20 this year and I'm so afraid that because of the issues she had with the mirana that she is now unfertile. Has anyone else come across this issue?
Hi there, did your daughter end up sorting everything out?? Is she ok? What was the issue??
Hi, this post it old, but I'm 16 years old and have been on mirena for three months and had to get it removed because of the pain that I still had. I had it removed 5 months ago and still no period. I'm supposed to be getting tests done on Monday.
I am also just like you I had the morena in place for 2 years I've had it taken out now for 5 years the whole 7 years I've never had a period every since I've had the Mirena taken out for 5 years I've been trying very hard to be able to have a. Because I also want to have another baby I do not know what is wrong with me and the doctors have been giving me some kind of medicine to help me have a period every month but if I quit taking the medicine I'm no longer have it. I'm also just like you and wanted someone to help me so that I may be able to have another baby in so that I may be able to have my periods regular I know how you feel also me and my husband also are wanting to have another baby but so far nothing because I have no piridos if anyone knows how to help please let me know what I may be able to take this so I can start having periods I would love to have a baby as I'm getting older and I want just one more child please anyone can help let me know
I also had the mirena for aost 5 years and had it removed so we could try for another baby. I've had it out now for a year and I have not had any more than very little spoting for 2 days every month. I mean very little spoting... We have for sure had at least 3-5 opportunities to get pregnant and still nothing. I will see my doctor in a few days so as of right now I don't have any answers. But I've had no luck getting pregnant in a year! Sooooo disappointed! I very much regret ever getting the Mirena! It had only caused me problems... I should have removed it years ago when I suspected my health problems were caused from it!!
I am going through the same thing. My doctors cannot figure it out. I have had very light periods and now I am not getting one at all. It is very frustrating. Has your doctor advised you a way to fix it?
Hi, I was just wondering what your (or anyone else) outcome was? I had the coil out a year ago and not had a single period since. Had blood tests but all came back fine. I have an ultra sound scan coming up shortly. Thanks
I was also wondering if you had gotten an answer. I had a Mirena IUD put in about 5-6 months ago. It perforated my uterus and was found via laparascopic surgery. Since then, I have not had a period. Granted, I also have an 8 month old and am breastfeeding. But before I had the IUD put in, I had had two periods. Just very curious and I don't know if it's serious enough to go to a doctor about.
I've had the Mirena for 6 years and I got it removed my 5th yr with it I figured I would let my body rest I had sex a day before going in for removable about a week later I started having pregnancy symptoms and sure enough of was pregnant every nurse thought that was very weird considering I had no sex after removal. Everyone is different don't be so quick to blame Miren I just had mine removed again and I am trying to conceive it's been 3 months no luck yet.
