My Mirena has been out for over 9 months, & not 1 period. I have had blood work done for pregnancy, my thyroid, & other possible issues. We have had scans done & an internal ultrasound to ensure its not cancer, all came back fine. Could this have been caused by the mirena? I have looked for similiar situations, but most people eventually start after 3-4 months, but I have seen nothing like extending out to over 9 months.
We had it removed so we could try to have another baby, & now Im literally infertile because Im not menstrating. Im 27 years old, with two children that I am very thankful for, but I always knew I wanted another eventually whivh is why I had the Mirena put in so I could take it out & get pregnant when we felt the time was right. I had my first one put in Nov 2008, removed & replaced Nov 2013, & then the new one removed Feb 2014. Since then, nothing. We dont know what to do, & my doctor is completely stumped. If anyone has had a similiar situation please help, we thought this was suppose to be a happy time trying to get pregnant & adding to our family, thank you!
Still no period after 9 months of having Mirena removed?

I have the same issue. I am 29 and had mirena for 4 years. 6 months ago I had it removed. Since then I have felt pms symptoms constantly but no periods. I have had blood tests and an ultrasound but neither the doctor nor the ob/gyn can determine the problem. I do not seem to be ovulating either. I also wish someone had warned me about this before I got mirena! It is not worth it. Its so frustrating having no possibility to conceive a child (I have none--I was "waiting") not to mention having no control over my own body.
Did you ever get your period? I had mine in for the complete five years had one right after removal and it has been a year with nothing. I'm so upset that I may never have anymore kids because of this. I had one for three years removed then another one and kept it for the complete five years.
I have not had a period since Miranda implant in August 2012. I had it removed in November 2016 and its July 2017 in scared to death somethings wrong. I don't have insurance so I haven't had an appointment with my ob. I went to the er for a uti today and the doctor was more concerned about the absence of my cycle. He told me it could be anything from a thyroid imbalance or diet to a tumor or overian failure. Any one have a similar problem bc I blame Miranda for this.
Update: I officially finished my first period after 2 years exactly. I posted earlier about my difficulties TTC. It was a big surprise but still not sure if I'll ovulate. We will see.
I am so sorry that we are going through this and not saying your problem is not at all bad, but it could be worse. I bleed extremely heavy EVERY month since removal Nov 4, 2016. I go through pads and tampons every hour and it stays on at least 7 days. I cannot plan ANYTHING around my cycle. I have to drink vinegar and take damn near a bottle of ibruprofen everyday and I'm just freaking tired. I am going to a new OB/GYN, (my last one was a man, this one's a woman). I'm even ready for a damn hysterectomy and I'm not 40 years old yet!!!
So after literally a tmyear after having the mirena I.U.D takeb out and seven years without a cycle!!! My cycle mysteriously returned!!! I cannot believe it ladies!! I am in shock and aldo quite relieved to be honest!!!
Hey everyone ive just come across this thread to find a couple of answers. I got the mirena in 2011, got removed 2015 and replaced a month after then removed it 6 months after that. So ive not been on the mirena for almost maybe a year and a half. I havent been trying to get pregnant but if it happens it happens. I had periods all the way through but they were light and 3 to 4 day periods nothing really worth a tampon but wore them anyway. When i got it removed the second time i bleed proper period for 2 weeks, then just went back to my normal 3 day period thats super light. It comes on the same day every month, im now just starting to wonder what thats about, because there have been times where i know i should have fallen pregnant and i havent. I do have 3 beautiful kids and i am not trying to concieve but im starting to feel like the option of trying has been taken away. Im not sure what it all means.
And i also got told it was great and i would get pregnant easily, almost straight away. My pms is also horrific, never used to be this way, my boobs are so sore like im pregnant, i get way too exhausted and i eat way too much and thats 2 whole weeks on the fot before my period comes. I know its normal but its way worse than its ever been for me. I hope someone has figured it out because by the looks of things alot of women have been cheated.
Reading everyone's responds is getting me really nervous, I had my mirena removed August of last year and I have yet to get a period. I knew something was wrong, I've tried other birth controls and after removing them I would get my menstrual with no problem. I'm so afraid of not being able to conceive again. I'm 32 years old with a 16 year old and I always wanted to give my child a sibling but I was not ready till now. I have a doctor's appointment soon, I'm guessing I'll be getting the blood tests as well. I'm hoping for the best. I'll keep you guys posted.
I think the important thing to understand is that nearly all the issues seem to be hormone related and not physical issues - which can be fixed with drugs. The time it takes to be prescribed the drugs however is another matter... You will most likely have lost of blood tests ahead of you!
Have you had your period yet? I'm in the same boat. I'm 33 with a 14 teen year old and Just got it removed after having it for 9 years. I got it removed 11/1/17 so far no period. I'm worried now after reading these posts that I may not be fertile again. I'll keep u posted.
Wow... I wish I would have come across this message board awhile ago! First off let me say I hope all or most of you ladies have had better luck since your last postings. I'm in a similar boat in some ways. I was extremely blessed with 6 healthy, amazing sons but after my last son in Sept 2014 I started having troubles. In Nov 2015 I started a horrible 'period' that lasted until March 2016. It was not just a simple cycle of course ... I had what my Dr called flooding. I went through an entire box of tampons and pads every 24 hours! It was hell !! I went to a gyno who insisted I have the Mirena inserted ... even though I practically begged for a hysterectomy ( after 6 kids my hubby got snipped so we were already done having babies ). When I expressed my concerns over some unpleasant stories of IUDs from pals she told me SHE was the expert and a hysterectomy was out of the question.
I had the IUD inserted Mar 2016 and out of the blue I had an IUD expulsion in Dec 2016!! Now its been 4 months of no period and I'm so confused. All the tests I had came back normal. I'm booked for my hysterectomy next month ... at least then I can put this nightmare experience of Mirena behind me!!
Wishing you all the best of luck!
Ok so my Mirena Iud was removed last year around April... I still have yet to have a cycle... Same tests were done... I am not going through menopause. ..etc... But for the past three days or so my breasts have been sore and I have been feeling bloated and quite emotional... I am hoping that maybe, just maybe my cycle is coming... I will keep you all updated... I feel like I am premenstrual totally, only time will tell.
I had my Mirena removed a year ago today and have still not had a cycle. I have been through the same tests and struggles and still no avail. I have a beautiful 7 year old son and wouldnt change that for the world but at 29 i am wanting another baby and i know time is running out and i cant concieve because i have no period. Doctors have no answers for me other than to just wait.
Just thought I'd reply to this since I posted here over 2 years ago. I had the coil out and didn't have a period for over a year and half. Constant blood tests/scans but no answers. In the end I was subscribed norehisterone to induce period (it worked) then chlomid to ovulate. On the 3 month we fell pregnant. If you are wanting to concieve you should probably push for the above as it may not happen naturally. Btw I am 29, healthy and had periods before having the coil. Hope that helps!
Hi, I'm so sorry to read your story. I had the Mirena put in Aug 15 to combat a heavy menstral cycle which affected my epilepsy. It was the beginning of a nightmare. Constant bleeding, aches, joint pains, angry all the time, pimples, I went back to my Gynaecologist who advised me to stick with it. With 8 months I suffered ten UTI's and three kidney infections, unreal skin rashes, I was so sick at one point I missed my holidays as I was too sick to fly. I had the Mirena removed in October 16, one strange period of one day and nothing else. All bloods are fine, but now the UTI's and kidney infections are back just waiting for the results of an Ultrasound on my kicneys/bladder. Having never had an UTI or kidney infection its been a nightmare. I hope that everything works out for you.
I had Mirena inserted when I was 20, right after suffering a miscarriage. I had only heard good things about it until a few months ago, where I had heard such bad things I made an appointment to get it removed right away! I only had Mirena in for a year however it's now been about 4-5 months since Ive had it removed and no periods yet... I am 21 and looking to start my family. I am very nervous that I wont be able to experience motherhood.
I have had mt mirena out for a year after having it in for 5 yrs and ever since my periods are on time but so light , I have not had a proper period since I had it out regular but light iam wondering if the mirena has caused me issues too ? I hope this helps a little I'm going through the same in a way also have not fallen pregnant (but haven't really been trying)
Well firstly let me say this... I have spent over an hour on Google, searching many forums relating to this issue... I'm 32 years old and had my Mirena I'd removed almost a year ago... I have not had one single menstrual cycle since after giving birth to my now almost seven year old child... I was advised that as long as the Iud was correctly in place, I could keep it in longer... I did... Something was gnawing at the back of my mind telling me that it had been long enough... but now I'm thinking maybe I kept it in too long. ... Something is wrong... I feel foolish for not looking this up earlier... apparently this is very rare
