I got the Nexplanon inserted of July 13th, 2013 and about 3.5 weeks later I started my period, which was when it was supposed to on a normal cycle. But my period had now lasted six weeks and I'm wondering if its worth the wait to see if it'll stop, or if I should try a different birth control. This period is extremely light, it's like it's not even there, but it gets old after a while.
Nexplanon - I've been on my period for six weeks, what are my chances of it stopping anytime soon?

I had the same problem happen to me for about six months when i first got it in the second time and it happened towards the end of my three year term as well. But we will all get the black discharge always in the beginning or towards the end of your term. For me i had both happen to me. But i love mine and i would not stop renewing my nexplanon. This is the second time that I have had it and i love it because there are no pregnancy scares at all. Plus it is a great way for those who may be promiscuous and just need to calm down their sex life. This will be the best option because your periods are off and on for about six months or sometimes constantly bleeding like i was. This was not the fun part since i am married and we have sex daily. So that was the only negative to the nexplanon. Now my nipples hurt really bad at times but i would rather have sore nipples instead of popping out children every year!
I had implanon for a whole year. I was bleeding for about 3 months then my doctor prescribed orthoevra (bc patch) to see if it would regulate my period, mind you I still had the implanon. She told me to try the orthoevra for 3 months then stop for a 1 month to see if I had a normal period after. My cycle was fully regulated while I used the orthoevra. When I stopped, I had my cycle then went off after 7 days, then a week later I was on again. The implanon was not good for me. I now have the paragard (for 4 months) I haven't had any issues with it other than heavier than normal period and the first 2 months really bad cramps. Best thing about paragard is that there are no hormones in it, so it doesn't cause weight gain.
Did you ever call the doc?
I totally understand so I've had it (nexplanon) in for a year I have two toddlers and I'm only 24 I don't want anymore kids. I love it about 70% of the time I did gain 15 lbs the first 5 months and had horrible mood swings, depression (my doc put me on bc pills for 3months to see if it'll help it did but I ran out started exercising it helped). I now have been on my period for 2 weeks it's real annoying this past week it's been light. I've read it's one of the possible side effects/symptoms but I've been super tired sleepy and real bad body aches calling my doc
I've Had nexplanon since August and I have had my period for two weeks now.

No the first couple years were great but had my period for about five months straight maybe one tiny break in there so I had it removed and I was back on track within a couple of months bleeding stopped maybe a few days after I had it removed
Nexplanon is a small, thin and flexible birth control implant that provides up to 3 years protection from pregnancy. It’s placed under the skin of your inner, upper arm by your health care provider.
The most common side effect of Nexplanon is a change in your normal bleeding pattern. In studies, one out of ten women stopped using the implant because of an intolerable change to their bleeding pattern.
Your period may be longer or shorter, or you may have no bleeding at all. The time between periods may vary, and you may also have spotting in between periods.
Everyone is different ... but if your bleeding continues for more than three months see your doctor.

I got mine on June 26th. My period also came just a few weeks after I got it as well. But ive been bleeding for 2 months now. I am anemic and this is horrible. My doc put me on oral contraceptive to try to regulate my period but it didnt work. So i am having it removed tomorrow before i bleed to death!
Hi, I had the same problem - I bled for over a month after getting my Nexplanon inserted, and it was terrible - but I managed to stop it myself by eating foods with high estrogen content, like soy, flax seeds, sesame seeds, beans, walnuts, olive oil, tempeh, bran, hummus, and dried fruit. If you think about it, this makes sense: Nexplanon is a progesterone-only method of birth control. It lacks the estrogen hormone that the Pill has, which regulates your periods. My period stopped within 3 days of eating these types of foods at every meal.
I also had a Planned Parenthood physician tell me you can stop it by taking ibuprofen in very high doses - three 200mg capsules three times a day for 6-7 days. I opted not to try this because I was worried about of the risk of heart-attack linked to ibuprofen, but it's an option. (Probably consult a medical professional first.)

Did you mean like three 200mg at a time for three times a day?
I had a question for the person who ate the food for three days to make the bleeding stop. How long have you had the implant. How much did you eat in each meal and how long after the three days of eating it did it stay stopped. I've been eating the foods for almost a week and every time I dint eat enough or forget to I bleed a lot. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
