I got the Nexplanon inserted of July 13th, 2013 and about 3.5 weeks later I started my period, which was when it was supposed to on a normal cycle. But my period had now lasted six weeks and I'm wondering if its worth the wait to see if it'll stop, or if I should try a different birth control. This period is extremely light, it's like it's not even there, but it gets old after a while.
Nexplanon - I've been on my period for six weeks, what are my chances of it stopping anytime soon?

Due to so many factors that can vary, especially in women, it's really more a person by person answer and though your doctor should be contacted if you're concerned or do want to switch, it's also not unheard for some women to have light bleeding most/all the time. You've given it a good try - changing seems smart unless things get better soon!
I had my nexplanon for a 1yr in just now come on been on for a week
I had put in Nexplanon less than 3 months ago but I had it removed in october 12,2016 because I had heavy bleeding that most of the time was black with cramping NONSTOP every day FOR 9 WEEKS STRAIGHT. I guess some of us are not that lucky with this birth control method. I am still bleeding a week after removing it so hopefully the ultrasound tech finds out why.I wish you guys better luck.
Hi, i have had the nexplanon since January 2015 after switching from the depo provera, i only changes because i had been getting the injection for around 5 years. I had no issues with the nexplanon until April 2016 i have been bleeding since then with my longest break been 1 week. Do you think i should get it removed as everytime i think its stopping it just gets worse. Should i make a doctors appointment or should i speak to a nurse first
I've been having the same problem. I've had my period for the past 6 months and it's getting worse. I saw my primary care doctor n told her and she said to get it removed. Well 2 days ago I was rushed to the hospital because I was hemorrhaging. They told me that I am anaemic n if I don't get it removed asap then I will need a blood transfusion. I asked them to take it out but they said they couldn't. The soonest I could get an appointment is October 25th. Hopefully having this removed will regulate my period.
My advice is to just make an appointment n have it removed.
Hi I had nexplanon on July 26 and started my periods on August 20 as normal cycle but they haven't stop yet it's quite annoying now and mood swings a lot just thinking if it not stop at the end of October I might get another way of contraception and talk to doctor
Ok I have been on the nexplanon since Aug 31 2016 at first I haven't had a period and then started, I have been on my period for three weeks straight light but I have had this before my first time having this birth control in after I had my son in 2012, I had a period and then they completely stopped which was great but not that I have it again I have had periods for three weeks and I love this birth control because I can't get pregnant but I want it to stop it's really annoying like no other... Has anyone had had this happen?
I've been on it since December 2015 n the first 3 months was fine.. Then in April I got what I thought was my regular period. Well 6 months later n I still have my period. I'm getting it removed on the 25th n I can't wait.
Hi I have the nexplanon in my arm and today I have come on my period
I got mine in July of 2016. I didn’t get a period until September of 2017, now my periods are anywhere between 9 days and 16 days. Recently I had a 7 day period and it stopped for 2 days, now it’s back, light but it’s back.
I got the Nexplanon inserted in December 2015 and the first three months I did not have my period. In April I thought I was getting my "regular period" but I've been bleeding since. Sometimes it's so heavy I have to wear a tampon and a pad changing it every hour. I've also experienced extreme weight loss and now I'm seeing a nutritionist. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a few weeks ago and my doctor said having "irregular periods" is one of the side affects. She put me on medication for it and she said to wait a month to see if it helps. Well it's almost been a month and it hasn't helped. I want to get it removed but I've been reading ppl having even worse side effects after having it out.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
I got the nexplanon bout 6 months ago and have been bleeding ever since then.. is this normal or should I go get it taken out?
So I had my nexplanon implanted in March 2016. I proceeded to have a heavy/mild period all the way until July 1st. Starting July 1st my doctor prescribed me estradiol to help regulate the period. Out of the 30 days, I didn't have a period for 20. Once I stopped the supplement the period came right back in August and has continued since. My doctor prescribed another round of estradiol but this time my period hasn't stopped.
I'm going crazy. I'm tired of buying tampons and using them because I'm constantly bleeding. I used the orthoevra patch for 5 years but then tried changing to the nuva ring last year and I went crazy on it. So I tried out nexplanon. I really love it because I don't have to worry about anything, but I can't take these constant periods, it's making good my vagina very uncomfortable. Any comments or suggestions?
I got the Nexplanon implant put in on July 5, 2016. For two weeks I had no bleeding whatsoever. Then July 20th the bleeding started, It was way less than my normal heavy bleeding so I wasn't too upset and I wasn't achy or moody. It is now September 5th 2016, I have had my period since July 20th with no breaks in between and the bleeding is getting worse and worse, I'm exhausted very irritable my body aches all the time (especially the vaginal area) I get severe migraines daily and I'm quite ready to rip my arm off completely and slap my doctor with it. (Not literally) Just overly frustrating.
I'm on nexplanon and I spotted for three days and I'm really concerned because it was after me and boyfriend had sex
This happened to me too, I ended up getting my period. Sometimes it’s related to sex. If it’s rough or your boyfriends penis is larger, it could just be him hitting something?? Idk my doctor said it was fine and that we should change the way we had sex.
I had my nexplanon since October 12 2015 cause I give birth on the 9 of October and my period didn't come on all this time now in 2016 we are in August now but my period came on July 27 2016 but It can't stop and is too weird for me I don't know what to do cause I cause my stomach be hurting and I be having this bad headache and I gain too much pound I used to be 135 now I'm 165, I don't know what to do
I have had the same issue. Nexplanon was inserted March 2016. I came on my cycle the first of April and have had some sort of annoying light bleeding for 29 days so far. It finally looks like it is about to stop. Fingers crossed. I got this in hopes of preventing my cycle altogether. Very painful and heavy cycles have been my experience since I was 9. I had the Norplant for 5 years with no period at one time, so I am hoping for the same results with Nexplanon.
I have had the implanon back like 3 years ago and bled for 6moths straight I lost maybe 30lbs and felt like I was dying I was extremely weak and always sleeping I never ate , I had it removed then recently had my daughter back in October after my 6 weeks I had the nexplanon inserted because my doctor told me it would be different I have now had it for 2 months and I've only stopped bleeding once a month for 3 days then go back to bleeding ... I'm upset that I have to deal with this I'm trying to wait it out to see if it will steady out
I got nexplanon put in at the end of September. Maybe early October. I don't remember the exact day. Anyway, I had about a whole month without any bleeding at all. Even when my monthly cycle was supposed to be there, I had nothing. It was great! Ever since the beginning of November, I've bled every single day. It's not even really blood, more of old blood. Dark brown. I haven't had a day without bleeding in almost three months now. It's very frustrating. Having a full time job and having to worry about changing a tampon is stressful. And being sexually active is kind of an embarrassment because there is always a mess. It's not very easy to explain this to a guy. Is there anything I can do to stop the bleeding or do I just have to wait it out?
Not sure if you already had it taken out but I had it taken out in March I think of that following year because the bleeding did not stop. Try calling you Doctor see is the pills can balance it out I just decided not to even follow through because it was too much hassle my husbands getting a vasectomy so I I luckily I won't have to worry much longer
SOO it appears I'm having the same problem. It will stop for two days and start all over again. I'm dying. Did you ever end up regulating? I'm trying to decide if I need to have it removed.
I got mine like December 7th. I've been bleeding since December 18th. They do have a 10 day hormone that you can take that will stop the bleeding once you reach 6 months if the bleeding continues. It sucks that yah can't have sex, but its better than being pregnant again.
I have the same exact systoms. I was wonder if it ever stop, or did you had it taken out? please help.
Update: I ended up getting put on an extended pack of birth control pills by my doctor. I started those about a month and a half ago. About a week after I started, my period completely stopped and I haven't had it since! The only thing I've noticed is some weight gain, but that's understandable considering I'm now on two different types of birth controls.
I have the implant for nearly two years now i have been to the doctors they said Its fine Its really difficult to deal with your period for such long time im scared i might not be able to have kids one day i only ever took some pills that stop Your period completly for as long as you take it but I don't think thats healthy I would have hate to take it out because I really think other contraception won't work for me
