Ever since I've been taking Gabapentin for approx a yr 300 mg 3 times daily I notice I talk so clear and vividly in my sleep. It's not a mumbling but like a regular conversation with someone. Even napping I will. I just wonder if anyone else has this.

I had surgery and during surgery there was some nerve damage..So the doctor at the pain clinic put me on gabapentin... It has been a horrible journey... my husband says I talk out loud in my sleep and say things that makes no sense. And the things I say seems like things that bothers me from work or something else from just life period... This morning he said I woke up saying just take the pee from the catheter and put some grass on it
I'm very sensitive so I was taking 100 mg at bedtime to start, and stopped remembering my dreams which are usually really vivid.
When I increased to 200mg my partner said that he kept sneezing during the night and every time I would gasp and sit up, and look out the window behind our bed. He would tell me that it was just a sneeze and I would talk at him in a mumbley sleep language.
I don't remember any of that and I don't usually talk or do anything else in my sleep. It's making me nervous that I'll get up and do stuff and not remember. My doctor says she hasn't heard of this side effect so thanks to everyone that's reporting it!
People always act like I'm making stuff up or "it's probably stress" but this stuff is weird.
Not sure if it's related but my cheek muscle has also been twitching for 6 days straight but there's no literature about that anywhere either.
I was on Lyrica for 7-8 years and Cymbalta for 8-9 years. I’m completely off Lyrica and I’m slowly tapering off Cymbalta now. I had forgotten about how this would happen to me. Reading this reminded of when I used to wake myself up while having such vivid dreams. I would be talking out loud and it seemed so real when it woke me up. Sometimes I would throw my arms around while I was dreaming. I didn’t know about this part until my husband woke me up and asked me why I hit him in the face. This happened many times. I had horrible falls too. Once I fell backwards down a flight of stairs. Another time I fell and broke my leg. All the falls that I had was because I was so weak, tired and dizzy from the medications. These drugs are poison ☠️ (imo). I can’t wait to finally get done taking Cymbalta and work at getting ‘me’ back.
I started out not being able to sleep and would go about 2 nights with NO sleep and then sleep for about 24 hours. When I started taking gaba, my first trick was falling asleep while talking. Then, I progressed to falling asleep in the bathroom at night. Then, I would fall asleep standing up. That lasted for a while. Now, I have progressed to sleepwalking..and falling. i broke my wrist 3 weeks ago when I fell backwardsand smacked my head on the wall. 2 nights later, I fell into a door frame and cut my head at 3 in the morning, and needed 5 staples in my head. I can't afford lyrica ( blue cross blue shield sucks) and all of the discounts i have tried to use were not accepted because we are on FEDERAL bobs. I am going to try to program lyrica has where they assist you. Hopefully that works, or I'm sending my medical bills for injuries to the makers of gabapentin.
I have been having dreams, talking and raising hell in my sleep. I have started sleep walking and acting out my dreams. I take 400mg caps 3 times a day for Diabetic Nerve pain. It started shortly after starting Gabapentin 5 years ago and just found out what was causing my problems. My Doctors could not tell me why. My husband and I discovered this 2 days ago.
Hi Huron.
Yes, I've had these symptoms, and it's very embarrassing, especially if other people are around when it happens. As you said, the clarity of dreams and conversation is amazing. I took Gabapentin for 2 1/2 years and I stopped taking it completely, over a month ago. I didn't want to take it because it also messed with my memory. So, I'm glad I did because the talking in my sleep issue stopped. I was taking 2400 mg and quitting was easy.
It is very good, though, for pain and sleeping and anxiety.
The worst part of it were "falls." I fell and hurt myself seriously many times. My docs were very concerned about falls. Do you have any problems with falls? One time I passed out and I don't know why. I don't know when it happened and I don't remember when I woke up, but I do know the pain.
Have you talked to your doc about this? The symptoms your having really annoyed me. Fortunately, I live alone, so only my daughter experienced this happening. She shook me to wake me. Sheesh!
Faith, hope and love,

I have the same side effects. Sometimes I remember the "conversation", particularly if I awake during the "conversation". I have a room mate that came into my room as the door was open and she witnessed the same. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
Hi these are results of a study done on people taking Gabapentin:
"On Sep, 8, 2013: 32,311 people reported to have side effects when taking Gabapentin. Among them, 18 people (0.06%) have Sleep Talking".
As you can see, it is very rare, but there could be something in it. If it is affecting you badly, if you are very concerned about it, please speak with your doctor about the medication you are taking...
I have had this but after a long period of trial and error discovered that it was not the Gabapentin that was doing it, but another medication I started earlier that once combined with the Gabapentin made me talk in my sleep and even move my arms and legs. I started sleep walking and even fell down a set of stairs breaking my arm, dislocating my elbow and had a concussion. I also was hallucinating but didn't know it until one day when I ran out of my sleep medication and hallucinated for 16 hours straight. It was awful. I'm not sure if this helps or not, but wanted to share so that hopefully you didn't have to go through the same horrible trial and error period that I did. Could it be another medication that you are taking in combination?
OMG! That's terrible. No, this has just been since the Gabapentin. I take other meds but this effect since the Gab. I've had Restless Legs too but have had that for yrs. But the talking is recent mos.

I have had sleep problems with gabapentin for quite a while. I take pain medication and only a small amount of gabapentin.
Even the smallest amount of gabapentin causes me to move about in odd positions and sleepwalk.
Last night I must have been perched on the side of the bed and fell off really hurting myself. I only took 50 mg of liquid gabapentin.
I was sleepwalking quite a bit and my husband found me perched at the head of the stairs swaying.
I just found this site because I’m curious as to how many other people have sleep disturbances on this medication.
It may be the combination of gabapentin and a narcotic that causes this.
I also take a small amount of a benzo.
