yes. several repeating dreams of being lost/trapped
I have been taking Gabapentin for about 8 years now. I take 900 mg per day along with 1250mg per day of Keppra for seizures. I have vivid dreams, but not terrible nightmares. I sometimes cannot tell if something really happened, or if I dreamed it. I often feel exhausted during the day feeling as though I have been doing something all night. I find staying home at night, listening to calm music and reading helps a lot- along with 6mg of melatonin before bed. For years I took Dilantin which caused horrible dreams and damage to my liver. I believe lyrica has more, and worse side effects than gabapentin. I would do something very relaxing for a couple of hours before bed. Also limit caffeine, and limit nicotine. There are worse drugs than gabapentin. Get off the computer at night!
Gabapentin satisfies GABA receptors in the brain without actually attaching to the receptor site... I believe that you need GABA attaching to receptors and not rely on gabapentin alone to satisfy GABA needs, especially at night
I am on my 2nd week of Gabapentin for a combination of help sleeping and peripheral nerve irritation. I am *definitely* having wild & vivid dreams. I kind of like it, because sleep is definitely interesting, but I’m not sleeping that much. In seemingly one second, I will be out for an hour! As others have said, distinguishing sleep from wakefulness is sometimes difficult. Many of my dreams involve being chased or committing crimes! Entertaining but not necessarily restful!
I just started taking this medication today, for my Hot Flashes. I was told it would make me drowsy but I am still awake hours later. I'm on a 300mg dose. I am very afraid of GAINING WEIGHT! Ugh!! I'm already overweight, but I'm hoping for the side effect of losing weight. Is anyone losing weight?
I took my first dose last night. It helped my pain tremendously... however the dreams I had were so weird! It was like a horror movie. In the dream I woke up... but I wasn’t awake. (If that makes any sense) I’m glad to know that it’s not just me. I pray that you’ll be ok. We’ll have to figure out if the benefits outweigh the side effects.
I have had this same problem. I've been on it for about a week now and every night, every dream, seems so real. Super vivid. I usually tend to dream about what happens the day before. It's super gnarly. Also, I've had moments where I can't distinguish reality from dream. I can definitely relate! I have a shoulder problem where there is a massive uncomfortable feeling and I have to move/adjust/twitch my shoulder to feel better. But all that movement just causes pain. So my doctor prescribed me this medicine. I hope this helped.
I just started taking it and I’m part awake and part asleep when I’m,dreaming. I sometimes sleep in the hot tub that is in my living room because I have severe Restless Leg syndrome that’s why I started taking the Gabapatin in combination with Mirapex. I use a inflatable tire that goes around my chest so I don’t drown when I fall asleep, well anyways I had this dream that these monsters opened the side of my hot tub so I would float into this purple glowing cave.now I’m half asleep. The control panel of my spa I had put a towel over so the lights wouldn’t bother me. Well it was glowing and trying to get me to go into the cave . I told them to close my hot tub and for them to leave. They didn’t. I took my water noodle and started beating the control panel then I called for my husband. He came down and I told him to tell those monsters to leave. He said Elisa your dreaming. For about 2 hours I still thought they were real
I have upped my nightly dose from 100mg to 200mg. My Dr wants me to go up 100mg every week till at 600mg. Well, last night was my 2nd night of very vivid dreams. I woke up bawling in my sleep, even sniveling as I cried. It was the worst night terror ever for me. I have never woke up crying to the point of sniveling. I read that if you have night terrors from gabapentin you should call your Dr right away. I am now scared to work up to 600mg. My Dr wants me on it in the morning and before bed. I'm just petrified to continue taking it now.
I started taking gabapentin yesterday for sciatiac. It made me sleepy during the day so I took a nap had.no dreams. Went to bed and had weird vivid dreams and actually was talking to my little sister on.the phone who passed away in January of 2018. I wasn't scared in my dreams but was feeling lost. I only took 2 300mg 4 hours apart. I have been told by my physician that once I get use to the medication this will stop. It takes a while for it to build up in your brain. Don't hesitate to contact the prescribing doctor for further instruction.
I have been taking gabapentin for 2 weeks for neuropathy caused by diabetes. I'm on a fairly low dose every 12 hours. It does help my nerve pain but interestingly it has really lessened the incessant itching I have from lymphoedema. In the 1960's I did LSD many times. I have not done anything "illegal"for 30 yrs but I vividly remember acid hallucinations. My dreams now resemble those hallucinations. They don't last as long but there's a sense that it's really a dream. When I wake up it continues for a few minutes. Some of the nightmares are truly terrifying.
Gabapentin was prescribed for me for approximately the past year. My current dose is 1800 mg. @ bedtime. I experienced reduction of chronic pain, and improved sleep. This week, I was very ill , and went off of most of my meds and vitamins, due to nausea and vomiting. I did try to maintain low doses of psych meds, realizing that sudden withdrawal causes kick back symptoms, such as the nightmares that I had.
A special thanks to the person who mentioned leg cramps. I have had some disturbing cramping, and realize that I could have found the culprit. I will be experimenting with reducing the gabapentin dosage. My hopes for resolving the cramps or high!
I would also like to mention that as I age, it is confusing to sort out what might be a symptom from the medication or just old age. It is so helpful to self advocate, amongst ourselves. I will also be reporting this to my health professionals, after I sort out the gabapentin and cramping question for myself.
I am glad I found all these responses. I was prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain and was initially excited that I had something that could help with my pain. Last night I had some of the most terrifying, gruesome, and bizarre dreams I ever had. As soon as I would fall asleep I would be transported into these awful dreams that would sometimes only last a minute or so, and sometimes last much longer.
I feel bad for everyone that has to deal with this on an ongoing basis. I took my first dose of gabapentin last night and decided it's not worth the chance of even one more night like that. I'm going to simply wait until my nerve pain goes away on it's own.
No. Sadly I have been on it for months and they don't go away. Sometimes they are nightmares and sometimes they are just weird dreams. The other night for instance I dreamt thai I was pregnant and was on a bus with my brother and the driver wouldn't stop so I could use the bathroom so I cussed at her and told her to go to hell then got off . As soon as I got off the earth opened up and swallowed the bus and closed up again.
I’ve been on gabapentin for about 6 months or more and just increased the dose to 200 mg per day.My nightmares are so bad I have to get out of bed, go into another room and keep telling myself it’s just a dream until I fully wake up. I stay in constant prayer and that isn't helping. I don't understand why it's not listed as a side effect. This is crazy. It helps with headaches but the nightmares trump it. I have to stop Asap.
Don't stop praying. My pastor always says you can pray 100 times and it might not work but keep praying and one day GOD will answer your prayers. I will be praying for you too. GOD BLESS YOU SISTER.
