I have Norco, Opana, Xanax and Baclofen. I've taken all of them, to no avail !!
I am afraid of the Opana situation, as some of you know my history with OxyContin, my oh so lovely cold turkey withdrawal off of it, true hell on earth it was.
I've taken a hot bath, I am trying to relax, yet NOTHING, any suggestions my lovely family??

I'm so sorry to hear of this!! Certain opioid medications work better for fibromyalgia type pain vs. others. On that same note however, the opioids that are claimed as being useless by many many doctors. You know as well as I do that this is simply not true for many people who suffer from this type of pain. There is however some truth to this.
Certain nacotics concentrate their primary action on one of the three opioid receptors. There are however many more receptors that simply are not currently understood. One of the actions that an opioid may poses is the ability to target fibro pain unlike many of the others. There are suprisingly few that contain this characteristic action, those being methadone and tramadol. There's one more med, but typing on my phone doesn't allow for me to check the actual names. tramadol is a very week opioid that works at various strengths depending on your metabolism of that drug.
Also, while it will not elliminate all of the pain, it does act well in conjunction to other meds and may be a more specifically targeted medication.
Methadone as we all know has a tendency to strike fear into the hearts of many, especially careless doctors who didn't know anything about the med other than its pain killing properties. These doctors as a result have inadvertently killed many patents, however when prescribed by an experienced doctor it really is safe and probably the most effective medication for fibro type pain. Yes you need to have your heart checked and yes it does cause withdrawal symptoms that can last over a month if stopped abruptly, however it works and has given many who suffer from chronic pain their life back.
One last thing, I've read several studies that have come to the conclusion that more meds, especially opioids do not create for greater effectiveness, but actually the opposite. If there's just one med that helps the most, it might be in your best interest to increase the dose and drop all of the added meds, working to create a level of stability.
Regardless as to what you decide to do, I truly wish you the best of luck!

Sweet lemon,
I have taken Opana ER for about 6 years & I like you have Fibro for 30 years & have been on almost every pain med there is. I am not sure if you are taking Opana (taken every 4-6 hours) or
Opana ER (extended release taken every 12 hours). One thing about Opana is you have to take it every day & not skip any doses. Otherwise you will have withdrawal symptoms & if you take it as prescribed you should not have alot of break through pain. If you are having beak through pain your Dr. may need to increase the dosage amount. Also I notice that you have a few other pain meds listed. It is Really important Not to mix the pain pills together. And it is Really important to NOT drink Alchol while on the pain meds as you can actually die. There is also meds that are for Break through pain specifically. I noticed also that you are concerned about getting addicted to Opana.
But usually when they taper you off Opana they will wein you off slowly & usually start you on either anothr pain med or usually they use Methadone to help with the withdrawal symptoms.
Have you tried using the Fentanyl patch?
I also noticed you were o.n Baclofen & Xanax I take both of these also. Baclofen works well for the muscle pain.
When I am really stressed I take some Xanax & either take a warm bath with Epsom salt r st go lay down in a Quite room & usually listen to some hing music.

Hi OLIVIA, yes but I am quite allergic to Lyrica. I've had bad allergic reactions to most fibro meds.
Although, I'm currently taking gabapentin (with terrible nightmares) but it is helping.
Thank you for your answer!

I have my own concoction that works pretty good. If you cant take the Glucossmine I might know a better one that wont hurt your stomach. Take care and keep in touch. R.
Hi reedeli,
Of course you can join the party!!
I do take my vits... when I am able to eat that is. Just no glucosamine for moi.
May I enquire as to what works for you (aside from vits)???
I take Calcium, Omega 3, Multivitamin and Vit B. They are all powders. You can mix all the powders together to form a cocktail.

Sweet Lemon-
I haven't posted or responded to posts in quite some time. On top of the dealings w/the fibro I have been struggling depression and anxiety. With that said, I have an I phone and began to look for (free) apps on mediation. Today was a HORRIBLE day for me and I found an app that truly helped me to relax and calm my mind. You know how our minds work in over drive when we hurt cuz all we think about is wanting it to go away.
I learned about this from my daughters phycologist that works with her pain and the brain. Hope this may be helpful. I feel ur pain...

I too, have found that when I'm in serious pain, meditation doesn't help much because then all I feel is the pain... but distraction works wonders. If you can find something to distract you that is also very relaxing, the pain lessens for awhile... I also find lightly rubbing in a circle to help confuse the pain receptors or something, because while I'm rubbing, the pain lessens and spreads out a little.
Get a pedicure (They CURE) :-))

Sweetlemon:
I try hard not to make Opana sound like it's the drug you can count on! they all work so different for each individual, I was taken of Dilaudid once I fell last winter and placed on Opana, I have been on so many and have had so made adverse effects that I didn't think Opana was going to help me, my pain was so severe with the problems from the polio and now add vertebrae fractures and disc problems it was unbearable! my doctor is an internist with a specialty in pain management, I was finally placed on (3) 40mg.
tablets every 8 hours, that along with Ibuprofen which caused me to have swelling in my ankels finally using Naprosyn three times a day and the Opana helped, I am told by her to not go off Opana cold turkey, I had a horrible time with Oxycontin, it gave me the shakes and I felt like I was in a fog, I am currently down to 1 (40mg) tablet I want to be much lower than that but each time I have gone off the meds I get in such terrible pain that I can't walk, I desire to take the least that I can take and yet have control and be the best I can be. I had a horrible time with MS Contin, Fentanyl patches (not enough body fat so when they tried to increase it I could not function) and problems with many more. You know pain is something that has many effects on your body as a whole, maybe giving the Opana a bit more time (if you can't then I would have a talk with the doctor) I've had it so bad that I couldn't sleep, unable to eat, I wish I knew of a better suggestion, have you ever use Lidoderm patches, the Insurance refused even with the doctor talking with them, a box of #30 cost me $275.00 that and the Opana and the Naprosyn seemed to make a difference, I know they give them basically for pain with shingles the lidocaine numbed things enough to make a difference, you use them one patch on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours, I think you can apply up to3 of the patches , I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. just know that we are all wanting the best for you!
I can not believe how many responces you got in 20 hrs. I hope you feel better soon. It must make you feel better to be so loved.
Oh- I just lost my whole post! I was going to say I have been in a really bad fibro flare for 3 days now - no reason for it! I would wait till near medication time then take a hot bath or shower. Take your meds and go to bed wrapped up like a cocoon to keep the heat in. Then do a progressive muscle relaxation exercise. - for your entire body if you stay awake that long. Hopefully that will give you a couple of hours break - it serves me well.
Hi ALL,
Hey... I LIVED through it !!! Who knew? I certainly didn't.
I must say, when push comes to shove, you people are really there for a wee Irish gurl, AMAZING!!
I thank all of you!! I FEEL the LOVE, ya know gang??
I shall never ever take more than one Opana in a day... that is for sure n certain, whoa!! Had a big ol' headbanger from it, and NO I didn't get into the Guinness!!! I was tempted for about a nano-second though!!!
I've written everyone's suggestions down and shall apply them all today so this body better be ready for all those suggestions.
And JILLYBEAN~ you and MARY632009 were both right, lack of sleep def played a HUGE role in this flare!!! I shall never do that again (until the next time I do)... I will force m'self to just stare at the ceiling next time with a cold pack (Thanks Buttercup!!) on me for'ead and relax relax relax!!!
We fibromites can't do it all in a day, we do need rest I suppose, but I figure a moving target is hard to hit, so I keep moving. Perhaps not a wise move?
Apologies for my vacuous posts last night after ingesting Opana, GIDDY UP, that stuff is strong!!! Whackadoo indeed I was, hahahahaha.
O I love you all so very much!!!
Lara
I'm so glad you're feeling better Sweet! And just like Maso said earlier, don't thank me, just be my pal. I know when I'm feeling bad I know I can come on this site and I have you and all of my friends here. Take care, girl! *hugs*
First off I want to say thank you for the nice feedback You gave me and I am gonna give it a try when I go to my appt the 31st. After reading the hell youre going through with your fibro flare I hate to not be of any help. I can totally relate with fibro And Pain and Freaking Dependancy It is an intertwined nightmare that personally has resulted in a "catch 22" with my day to day struggles I deal with involving these 3 issues that DO effect me too. I know what your going through and more than not its frustrating, lonely and sometimes even leaves ya feeling hopeless. I myself have an opiate addiction. I have been judged by family friends and others to say the least. All I know is when I have tried non-opiate medication for treatment of my fibro Im in agony. Even on opiates only half the time do I feel functional, let alone GOOD.
All I know is we can beat this and there has to eventually be better treatments or even a cure for this horrible "condition" in which most STILL do not believe is real or as it seems. Hang in there and if you HAVE to take an extra pill for the pain then you do what you gotta do Without beating Yourself up for it. You know when You Are Truly Hurting and NEED those meds thats what counts and Doesnt make You an abuser when You're honest with you. You'll be in my prayers. I hope you get better Very Soon:)
