I have multiple symptoms going on. The most recent is like my body is on fire pins and needles in some extremities. I also have trouble swallowing and get heartburn. Had some bloodwork but said was okay. Was having chest pain and dr. Did a echo and echo stress test. He was horrible. He said i had a mitral valve prolapse and echo stress was good. My blood pressure was okay the last couple times I was in dr' s office. But diastolic was running in 90's earlier and also hit a hundred after going to ER due to chest pain. I get thirsty a lot with dry mouth and then after drinking lots of water will get chills goosebumps. Very weak with vision not the same with warm feeling behind them. I have a lot of cognitive and memory problems which have been getting worse. I do have depression and anxiety. So every dr. thinks your nuts and don't believe what you are saying. I feel like something is killing me from the inside. I don't know what other specific tests to ask for. I am feeling very desperate.

I am having the same thing. Have been taking prilosec 3 times a day and going through same tests. It started a week or so ago with sharp chest pain and now burning sensation through my body. I will let you know if i find anything out.
Could it be oxalates? I.e you are eating a diet high in oxalates. If the gut flora is then damaged, eg through previous use of antibiotics, oxalates are no longer broken down by the gut bacteria (in particular Oxalobacter formigenes) and they get into the body causing pain and inflammation in the skin, muscles, bones, brain... Test for Secondary Hyperoxaluria (the associated illness) by asking to do a 24 hr urine collection test and test for oxalate levels and calcium. Join the Yahoo or Facebook Group Try Low Oxalates. Read Great Plains Laboratory's (US) information on oxalates. They also list solutions.
Please talk to your family doctor and ask to see a Rheumatologist and have these blood tests done. p-ANCA, white blood cell count(WBC), c-reactive protein (CRP), and ESR, (erythrocyte sedimentation rate). I hope you find your answers and get better.
this is crazy I have the exact same issue and did not take cholesterol medication yeah I was just prescribed it and now I don't know if I want it because I already have all these symptoms did you find out anything let me know
Have you considered porphyria... I have it am my blood burns... there's no other way to put it I feel like I'm on fire... your other descriptions are accurate for this too
What is porphyria? I have had these spells where when the pit of my stomach hurts i have to go the the bathroom and as i start to go my body feels like its 300 degrees and i hurt so bad. And after i go it kinda goes away. But i also feel like im gonna pass out. My stool is even hot when passing it.
It sounds like fibromyalgia, I had a lot of the same symptoms and all bloodwork was coming back normal, it took 2yrs for me to get a diagnosis. Do you have joint pain, headaches, fatigue. Go see a ruematologist, good luck
I also have some of those symptoms plus weight gain, chronic pain down my spine, sever lower back pain, red skin like a Sun burn, eyes have gotten worse with pressure an vision, stiff neck an all my Lymph Nodes are really swollen, an the heat coming from my body is extreme. I constantly have ice packs and wet towels on me trying to cool down. An My Doctor an Neurologist an Rheumatologist say it's Fibromyalgia. But really thought it was Lupus. And only thing I'm on is Lyrica. What other Specialists can I call for help. Its taken over my life.
I have fibro but I have developed a weird thing in my body inbetween my ribs and chest area I have a clicking sound in my nose as well it might be allergy related though any ideas...
Red skin says maybe lupus as well as fibromyalgia
How recent was the ECT? Did any of these symptoms show up shortly after it? There can be brain damage as a result of ECT - it causes the brain to have a seizure. Just wondered if there was a connection? - ElizaJane
It had ect done in April. MRI didn't show Any brain damage. I think it would of shown it. I just known my symptoms continue to get worse. My wife thinks that i am going crazy and doesn't believe me.
Modern ECTs usually don't show up in MRIs. They use very little electricity today. They used to pretty much fry the brain. Now a patient wakes, up and pretty much knows who everybody is, just groggy from the anesthesia, and sometimes a head ache. I gather from the MRI that they looked for brain tumors, mini-strokes, and other disorders that start in the brain..
Yes. I went to 3 different neurologists. I don't know what type of specialist would know why I am having this awful burning sensation. My family Dr is stumped. I get when I am not even anxious. I sometimes get these chills will I will start trembling. Last night I got nauseous and threw up some white mucous. I also had bad diarrhea and saw white mucous hanging on the stools. It burnt so much to go and even after. I took two extra Xanax and eventually fell asleep to wake up 3 hours later with my back sweating and forgot to take with my other meds. I woke up in panic took my beds with lots of water and eventually fell back to sleep. I had my wife take me to ER and all they do is take regular blood work vitals and urine and say you r okay. I know my body and know something is wrong. They discharged me and said fu with your Dr. and Gi specialists. They hydrated me plus I didn't eat. I was freezing with chills coming home and have been in bed.
Had some food not much and burning is starting up. Worst at night. The only thing that helped the other night was Percocet because I couldn't take the burning like I was on fire. I didn't take it last night and don't want to take it again tonight. I was hoping they would of kept me. I wish there was somewhere you could go where the would keep you and test for everything. I feel very hopeless and sick of being sick. Any help much appreciated!!!
It doesn't hurt to touch my skin or have tahrs or fever. If I go out side I am still feeling the burning inside but chills on the outside. ?
When I had my thyroid storm, I was like that. The thermometer said my body temp was 94, but I felt so hot- and sweated and sweated. The pseudoephedrine did that to me, put my thyroid in overdrive. I asked the doctor if he had taken care of a Zombie before. I had one doc take my temp- then he felt the back of my neck. He said that nobody would believe him that somebody with a temp of 94 would have burning sweating skin. My normal temp is 96-and I have a horrible time getting medical care with some doctors.
That sucks. I don't have the sweating with it. Not hot to touch. What thyroid tests should I have done ?
Just ask your doctor for a thyroid screen-they basically have a T 3, T 4 and a TSH. Then anything else your doctor thinks of. It costs less than a 100 most places. Most doctors can read them and understand. Ask the lab for a copy for you in case the doctor is a thyroid twit.
The thing about thyroid is the symptoms are about the same-yet each person can have completely different symptoms. Low and high thyroid can cause severe heart damage-I think low weakens and ruins the muscles, while high ruins the valves. Low thyroid is supposed to keep a female from having babies. I was like a bunny rabbit and had kids all over the place. I was cold-mine was low-normal- I was hyperactive-still am- but low thyroid is supposed to make you fatigued and depressed-I was born up and stayed up. It creates problems with math in males- I have that problem-had until I was put on thyroid meds. Looses hair-not me.
Obese- I was skinny- some even appear quite psychotic- some need anger management- most are sort of argumentative --- fuzzy thinking-not me except for math. Everybody here knows that my math skills got so bad that I grabbed some high school kids that got off the bus and gave them my bills- and monthly income and told them to make a budget for me. When my daughter was 10, she was put on my checking account and balanced my checkbook. Yet I could walk through the grocery store, and be within $10 or less in the estimation of how much I spent. I took a couple of high school kids with me, and they couldn't figure it out. After I got on thyroid-I taught high school math to juniors. Can cause lots of joint and muscle aches---
Again-I wish you well
I had ECT treatment last March and April. I was okay for awhile meaning I was sharp. I was given some pain meds for headaches and then fioricet. I have degenerative disc disease. I re-aggravated it in and my family dr. Put me on Percocet and Methadone. I was taking it with Remeron and Klonopin. I was very depressed then. I was sent to hospital to go through withdrawl. They put me on a ton of medication and I was so stressed out and shaking with a high heart rate and Blood Pressure. I walked out feeling worse then when I went in. The very next day I went to my psychiatrist and couldn't even talk. I was totally out of it. He said go to the ER. I thought that I was going to die. He put me back on benzodiazepines. They said it was still withdrawl. I was never the same after that. I started weaning off medications 1 by 1. Until I was just on Remeron and Klonopin. I was a little better when weaning of the Neurontin.
I later on started getting chest pains even though I felt dopped up and calm. My BP readings were high
I had a echo and echo stress test showing a mitral valve prolapse. I could tolerate any of the BP medications. They all made my heart rate. Like a stimulant. I have a blank stare and I have cognitive and memory problems getting worse. Know my nerves are overstimulated and I have burning sensations throughout my body. I can't sleep it burns so bad. My wife thinks its in my head but I know my body. I get terrible chills and start trembling and shaking. I also get nausea sometimes like right now as well as stomach cramps. Anytime I go to dr. They say it is anxiety. Everybody seems stumped and don't give you the time or day and think your crazy. I can't go to good Dr, s because I get lost and we have a 11 yr old son and my wife has her issues and I have nobody that will take me to dr,s and don't have much money. I feel like a walking disease and nobody wants to do much because of my complex history and all the meds I was on at different times. I know there are a lot if things going on but nobody wants to treat due to all the symptoms. U feel so sick. I don't know what to do. I could hardly much around the house. I just can't take this pain. It feels like I am on fire but chills and shaking on the inside.
Meyati, it's your old friend Mary. Where are you or how are you doing??? Everyone is worried about you & so am I. Haven't seen you around in months. I can't friend you for some reason, Please let us know how you are...
Do you have copies of your lab blood work? If not, get them. It will help us find what you need.
What I am hearing is neuropathy, diabetes, and some type of auto immune disease. You need to see an internal medicine doctor and not a general physician. They are trained in all body systems and practice them daily. Your GP was as well, but they don't get to stay current on all the new discoveries always. A cardiologist looks at his expertise. Thyroid also needs checking right away.
I, too, had that deep sense I was dying from something. Turned out I was. The specialists found out what was wrong and now I am better because the unanswered fears are now answered and I know what I am dealing with. Once that happens, not so much worry or anxiety. I can plan and solve problems.
By the way, not all doctors think someone is nuts because they are depressed. Any decent doctor knows that depression comes with long term or difficult illness. That is what we think. It is not what is. Sparing people arguing here about the bad doctor they had, we all have at one time or another, know that most are very careful and do care. Hopefully no one will miss that point.
Hardly anyone here dealing with long term illness or waiting to be diagnosed is not being treated for depression.
Did you get an MRI for MS? Have they given you a complete physical or just spot checking? Lots to consider. Hang in there. Karen
I had full lipid panel. I had a MRI on my brain. I had kidney lever function done.
I had my regular thyroid checked. Fasting glucose test.
What specific type of tests should be checked? If you could list them it would help. I had a lot of blood work done.
Thx!!!
Good to know. And I should tell you that I am not a doctor, none of us are here. We speak from experience and our knowledge base.
I happen to have a rare disease. Rare diseases can take a long time to discover. However, one does keep moving on to find the problem. The tests you have had ruled out, as you know, the things I had mentioned.
I am wondering what the doctors are investigating now. Are you seeing a good internal medicine physician? Are you working with a therapist? I have found that if one is in a clinic a therapist will communicate to your physician, if given permission by you, and that can reaffirm that your doctor is not treating you as nuts and possibly relay problems you had forgotten to explain. It can be helpful and relieve some anxiety.
There are many things to check. Allergy to a food or other substance, complications from a previous surgery, whatever has happened in your life. Keep at the search. You deserve to be better. Karen
I don't have a internal medicine dr. Who found your diagnosis and how did they find them?
I had a team of doctors while In an ICU. I had an acute track of polymyositis and unknown pnuemonia. I had an infectious disease physician, rheumatologist, cardiologist, neurologist, pulmonologist, endocrinologist, and the hospitalist which is a special physician for the hospital that maintains the integrity of the care and is the head of the case. This is an internal medicine doctor.
A friend of mine is in internal medicine. As a physician, she has said that what is obvious to her tends not to be put together by others. Because that is their job: Body systems. (She is not my physician, we went to college together).
Let your doctor know that you would like to consult with an internal med doc. Then do it. If your doctor says no, best to get a new doctor. No good doctor is ever offended by someone else looking at their patient. In fact, they can be very relieved to do so. It is important you become your own advocate and go after what is right.
With the mitral valve and your other symptoms it is essential you are well cared for. A longer conversation with the cardiologist is important. Not sure why you disliked the cardiologist. Some are intense surgeons and act indifferent but are very good at what they do (the surgeon attitude). Some make you go through a grueling stress test. Since I couldn't walk I had a chemical stress test. It was really frightening. Especially with the crash cart five feet away.
Once over the shock of your condition it is time to get out there, read, talk places like here, and gain the care you deserve. Be sure you take a list of your symptoms and discuss them all. Also a list of everything you take including vitamins and herbs and anything over the counter like ibuprofen or Mylanta. Ask about how well your heart is functioning, what to expect, if surgery is an option, what any medication will do. Then be sure you have someone to come with you who will take notes and help you stay on track.
I am sure that you will find the underlying cause of your ill health. Heart, of course, is very important. If your weight is high, start reducing by seeing a dietician. If you have little exercise, walk. There is much you can do on your own. If fit, exercise slightly to reduce stress as your heart allows. Let the doctor know you wish to pursue these changes. It all adds up. Karen
Thx for your input. I now it has something to do with my brain. I just don't know what. If the disease doesn't kill you the drugs sure will. So many horrible side effects and interactions that you don't know what is the cause or caused it. Keep in touch. My wife wants to take me to the ER tomorrow. I don't know what that is going to do. She doesn't know how to help. I am 41 on disability and dont have much money to see all these doctors if I did I would go to the Mayo clinic until they found out what was going on. I went from functioning at a high level to barely able to function. My 11 yr old son is smarter then I am. I get very confused disoriented a lot of cognitive problems. I had anxiety as a kid. It hit me hard 10 yrs ago. I was put on a antidepressant and it worked for 10 yrs then it popped out I tried everything including ect treatment. After ect I felt a little better and was able to function well.
I then later after my short term disability ran out got depressed and checked myself in. I got out and felt okay for awhile. My family dr. put me on two different pain meds which didn't help much. I tried going off all together cold turkey and got very depressed. I went into a dual diagnostic facility. I am very sensitive to meds. They treated me like a junkie. I never took anything without a prescription or ever abused the Xanax I was on. They withdrew me from the pain meds and the Xanax which I said I have been taken for awhile for anxiety disorder. They should of called my psychiatrist and asked about my history. I thought I had a nervous breakdown. My heart was beating so fast and anxiety out of control. They had me on so many medications 8 to be exact. I was always constipated there and didn't want to leave because I started feeling really out of it and had blurred vision which I didn't have going in. I could hardly walk very uncoordinated. I had a appt with my psychiatrist the next day. I could barely talk and had slurred speech. He put me back on Klonopin and said to my wife to take him right to the ER. I thought I was having a stroke. I had explosive diarrhea. They did a EKG and CT scan and said it was withdrawl. I started feeling better the next day and gradually started coming off one medication at a time. I am now on only two medications. I thought things were getting a little better and then they got worse and have continued. I know it is something organic, brain damage, nerve damage a blockage or something. I wish there was one exam that can tell you everything with all this advanced technology. I don't know and just am so tired of trying to fight when I feel so lousy. Thx for sharing and listening.
Will a regular MRI show a mini stroke? Another member said that she had 6 mini strokes and that she has vascular dementia.
What about vitamin B deficiencies? I was addlepated--- they suspected mini-strokes, Bell's Palsy, basically a new diagnosis and several MRIs. Then they did a blood test. I was greatly out of range for B 6 and just a little for B 12.
I was always on the low side of b-12 and vitamin d. They never checked all my vitamin levels. A high folic acid can hide a b -12 deficiency. There are different types of tests to measure is properly absorbing the B-12 and there are 4 different kinds of -12. The ones the family dr does doesn't really tell you much. B12 is linked to many neurological issues and if not treated early can lead to irreversible damage.
Yes a regular MRI can show mini- strokes-but one with contrast is better. Yeah, when I had my second deficiency that included B6 and 12 out of range, they didn't run it until after I had the MRI, because my iron content was high. They said that they didn't know why my heart didn't give out. I had tingling, numbness, walked like a drunken sailor. When I came home from classes-I had to put my books on the table, open them and put cans on the work that I needed to do. Somehow I carried a 3.9 for my GPA. I had to cut down to 9 hours.
What was your illness what did it turn out to be?
I'm going through this too and I'm just an Agony and my body hurts from head to toe!
All my labs come out good but I've got Diverticulitis and I'm sure that can't be making me feel like I'm dying!
First, you do not necessarily have diabetes ... you definitely sound like you have the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy which you can have from many other causes.
Definitely sign of anxiety and panic symptoms
Neurologist and PCP recommended
Did they check your blood glucose and/or Hg A1C for diabetes? Diabetes can cause thirst and it can lead to neuropathy which can cause vision problems and "pins and needles sensation and burning pains in the extremities. If they did blood work, I would think they would have checked for this. Stress will cause your blood pressure to run high so it is not surprising that it was elevated when you went to the hospital for chest pain (which can also be aggravated by stress) Having trouble swallowing and heartburn can be symptoms of gastric reflux (some heartburns can be bad enough to cause chest pain and is often mistaken for heart attack by people to whom it is occuring) Drinking cool water can cause you to get chilled so I wouldnt be distressed by that. It does sound like you have some significant anxiety issues. Anxiety can cause you to feel like you are dying from the inside. Anxiety and stress can cause the mind to do some strange things to the body.
Have you talked to a psychiatrist? I would recommend that you talk to one. Not because I think you are "nuts" but the mind can have strange effects on the body. This doesnt mean that the symptoms you feel are not real but it may help you to get on some medications for your stress and anxiety. This may help your other symptoms especially in light of the fact that they are not finding anything physically wrong.
This might sound odd, but do you take cholesterol medication? These are some of the symptoms of statin poisoning. The fire and pins and needles are called peripheral neuropathy. The mental confusion or dementia are part of it. Dry, mouth, stomach problems, also fatigue and weakness. It even caused me to dehydrate. Go to SpaceDoc.com, and check your symptoms. It does lots of things. If you don't take cholesterol medication, then I don't know what it could be. But this is a start.
No I do not take any statins. My cholesterol was fine ?
OK-that's good. I'm glad. Sop we got that eliminated. I can't think of anything else. I hope that you find an answer.
Meyati I just had regular TSH done and was normal. I don't know why the excessive thirst and why I was vomiting and diarrhea looked abnormal with mucous in stools. Just very weird symptoms.
The flu has been going around- a stomach flu with vomiting and diarrhea. That would cause the thirst-because you're dehydrating from the diarrhea and vomiting. Prolonged diarrhea can cause mucous to come out. That's very miserable. You could even have a food allergy that's making this worse. How long have you been doing this? I'm glad that we've eliminated thyroid and statins. That's good.
The burning sensation has been going on for 3 weeks. The excessive thirsty has been for 4 months with dry mouth and throat difficult to swallow. I have a very long history if things it would take forever to explain
I think that we have a long history- there isn't any reason to explain that. I do hope that you find resolution for your problem- the extreme dry mouth and burning body doesn't sound nice at all.
You have my prayers.
Thank you
have you taken antibiotics recently? It could be candidiosis. Doctors have difficulties with testing this.
