Been treated for acid reflux for 12 yrs. On Nexium 5 yrs, Prevacid 3 yrs and now Dexilant 4 yrs. 2 Nissen Fundoplacations, esophaghus spasms and terrible pain at times--- mostly at night. Taking dexilant, zantac 150 (2) and mylanta--- as needed. MISERABLE--- nothing works. All Dr.s want to do is MORE TESTS and MORE MEDICINES. Now I'm anemic--- and unable to take meds by mouth--without terrible pain. :( Any information would be appreciated. Thank's.
You don't have to wean off of it. Its not a drug that causes dependence. You've had 2 nissan procedures and it still isn't helping?
Please disregard the first answer that someone wrote. You absolutely need to taper off a PPI, because if you don't, you will get what we call "rebound heartburn", where the acid is produced in higher quantities!!!
There is Dexilant 30mg, try asking your doctor for that dose, since it's lower.
Have you tried other non-medication methods?
Eating ginger (like the one they have at sushi restaurants?)
Drinking some apple cider vinegar every night with a glass of water?
Smaller portion meals?
Elevating the head of your bed when you sleep?
Sleeping on your left side (since your stomach is shaped like a moon, this side will help, don't sleep on right side).
Have you tried stopping eating around 6pm?
