I want to ask if anyone has been taking Seroquel (Quetiapine) 100 mg for long term insomnia (like more than 2 years). How's the effect?
As I have surfed from the web that the sedative power to make you sleep will decrease over time.
Anyone takes Seroquel (Quetiapine) 100mg for insomnia for long term and how's the effect?

I'm bipolar.. Love the mania, hate the depression but it used to be my norm. Mania made me spin out, but Seroquel has reduced that. Now, good moods don't make me spin out. Work, exercise, eating well and, marijuana to an extent, also are super important.
I have been taking 100 mg. of Quetiapine for 3-1/2 years for anxiety/bipolar/depression along with an antidepressant. I am finally able to sleep and I am finally “relaxed looking” in my eyes my family members tell me! I finally feel relaxed instead of being so anxious. Perhaps I am feeling better because of sleeping well - could well be. My Dr. wants me to try 75 mg. nightly to see if I can lose any of the weight I have gained. I am able to tolerate the 75 mg. nightly so I will try this. If I lose weight, fine. If I don’t lose any weight that’s just fine with me too! Finally a med that has helped me out of the horror I have experienced most of my almost 70 years. I only wish I had found this med long ago. God bless to you all on your journey to feel better.
I have been taking Seroquel, or the generic name of Quetiapine since 2001, and my doctor has been increasing my dosage, as of present I am on 300 mgs, and sedation is heavy at times, and a negative affect has been that it has raised my A1C triglycerides greatly and now am a diabetic, a regular occurrence to those who are steadily using an antipsychotic drug.
I am a nurse and worked with mentally ill patients for 15 years and this is one of the medications I would give for sleep deprivation and many of them had been on it for years, when I left the nursing field due to health issues of my own, my insomnia was so severe I was literally felt like I was loosing my mind, I had tried over a dozen sleep medications and none of them worked I asked my physician to put me on seroquel That was almost 3 years ago. The medication still works as if I just started it. I would recommend not taking it every night only when your unable to sleep since the medication starts to to work pretty quickly you can wait to see if your going to need it to fall asleep.
as for me I found that if I don’t take it early enough i didnt want to get up the next day and fall asleep through out the day but not everyone has the same reactions to the medication, also this medication can cause weight increase I was 127lbs when I started taking it now I am 160lbs even eating healthy as I do it didn’t help so for me I am now weening myself off the medication and back to square one. This is a great medication for anxiety and insomnia, just be aware of any side affects and especially your weight because a large weight increase can cause you to become pre-diabetic, or diabetic also monitor your blood pressure I noticed mine increased with the med. I hope I was helpful
I have only been taking seroquel for a week,I was taking ambien before, there is no comparison. The ambien would cause me to go to sleep but wake up 2-3 hours later and sometimes not be able to go back to sleep. And when I got up I would feel terrible, depressed to the point of crying.Since taking the seroquel 100 mg I fall asleep quickly and stay asleep all night,I do feel a little groggy upon waking at first but no more than I felt with my troubled insomnia sleep and I recover quickly and feel great,so far so good,if it keeps working like this it will be an answer to my prayers. In my opinion ambien was terrible for me,I already have terrible depression which I take effexor for I didnt need the terrible depression which ambien added to it,which seroquel does not.I hope this helps you all.
Seroquel is prescribed off label for it's sedative side effects (it's primarily used to treat schizophrenia) that, as most side effects do, eventually resolve and fade away.
My husband began taking it at 25mg, then 50mg, then 100mg. When his doctor wanted to raise him to 200mg he asked for a script for a sleep medication instead of an anti-psychotic drug.
The drowsiness is a side effect that usually goes away with continued use, another problem with using the drug for anything is it can cause or increase a prolonged QT wave, a dangerous heart arrhythmia!
I have been on Seroquel and the generic brand for more than 10 years. Originally, I was on 300 mg which helped me sedate my racing thoughts. I am clinically depressed but no SSRI's have ever helped and this seems to be the only medicine that has allowed me to sleep. I was previously on other sleep aids but they never worked for more than a couple of hours before I was wide awake again. It has not helped with my depression or general anxiety during the day. But as previous people have indicated, I take it about 2 hours before I want to sleep and it greatly reduces my racing thoughts. If I have more stress and anxiety, I will take more than the 50 mg that I have personally reduced myself to. I am more concerned with the long term effects upon cognitive abilities and brain function in general. Can anyone help with that?
Seroquel can become an abused substance. I personally don’t know, but I have heard due to the strong effect of the munchies & sleepiness it’s like marijuana.
Seroquel is the only insomia medidicatiom that helped a lot. Only 50 mg works for me,however this not hipnotic medicación but works better.
I just want to say to everyone YOUR NOT ALONE!! I'm here if need be!!
Hello my doctor put me on 400mg of seraquel I started taking 800 mg on my own because I have severe insomnia bipolar depression ptsd scitzo effective disorder is that ok that I raised my dose on my own
I have ptsd from an aggravated assault. I have attended the sleep clinic and they surmised that my sleep issue was due to trauma. Whenever I am startled I shake uncontrollably and hours need to pass before I am in control again. Sleep is too tumultuous / impossible. In the back of my head - I am of the belief that when I close my eyes I am at risk. Elavil has helped me over the years but does not work any more. Tonight I am trying 100 mg of Seroquel. I need to sleep.
Does Seroquel help anyone with fears or ptsd?
I lost my son Dylan due to SIDS. I was unable to sleep. I had to pass out from exhaustion. I started taking 100 mg Seroquel. I have been on the same dose for over 10 years!!! I don't wake up tired. I did at first but that soon goes away. I take one or two depending on how much energy I have at bedtime. I have always had trouble sleeping. I am very pleased with the results. I hope I was helpful.
I lost my youngest twin daughter to SIDS three years ago and between the nightmares and anxiety and everything. I don't sleep much. I panic at night something will happen. I just started taking this med, tonight I took 50mg instead of 100 because I'm just scared. But I am glad I'm not alone.
Ask your doctor about adding Valium or Ativan to help with the anxiety! You might find an amazing effect on it. It’s almost like a huge relief. I’m on Valium 10mg x2 a day + Seroquel 100mg at night.
I lost my oldest son in 2003. He was 16 and I suffer from PTSD. I'm also bipolar and have insomnia. My dr just prescribed this for me and praying it works. They took my xanax away from me when I went into the hospital in January because I was suicidal. I haven't slept since and really need some sleep. I also take Lamintal in the mornings and it's working pretty good. My dr says they will work well together. I hope so.
I have taken Seroquel for insomnia for over 7 yrs. I started with 25 mg, but soon after I needed 50 mg to get good rest. I have not increased my dose, in over 5 yrs. I am able to sleep well with 50 mg. On rare occasions I have taken 100 mg, if I still up after 2 hours I will take another 50 mg. I have not really noticed any side effects with the exception of feeling really dizzy/passing out sort of feeling, but I am not a 100 percent it was directly related to Seroquel, so hard to tell. I have never experienced weight gain, which seems to be a common side effect.
So you take the drug every night for 7 years.

Thanks for your answer. My psy dr. actually offers Seroquel for my insomnia due to aniexty and depression. The drug did put me sleep so I can stop my racing thoughts, which in turn lessen my aniexty.
to "urgent",i was wondring if your dr ever gave u vallium ? ,i cant relax on it ,its like an upper for me,but others i know rekon they sleep like babies on it .one thing it does do tho without a doubt is stop anxious feelings and keeps your mind in a numb state, for a sleep drug only with limited side effects try mogadon or endep ,sum ppl get nitemares on mogadon, ive had v.deep sleeps on endep(amitriptaline hydrochloride)
I am on a huge dose of Klonipin and I am a small female. I rarely sleep every. I sleep like 2 hours per week. Yes that is per WEEK not per night. I am getting into legal trouble and my mind races and I have no friends. I never leave my house and I am going to have facial platic sugery in hope of helping myself. I have tried Everything to no avail. I have been in all kinds of sleep clinics and am fed up with trying. My case is severe. I have not tried this medication, but usually meds have a reverse effect. Like benadry causes me to be hyper. My blood pressure is so low and I feel like hell. Ihave asked Christians to pray but they act like they are too good to hang around. My mom stole my life savings.
