I want to ask if anyone has been taking Seroquel (Quetiapine) 100 mg for long term insomnia (like more than 2 years). How's the effect?
As I have surfed from the web that the sedative power to make you sleep will decrease over time.
Anyone takes Seroquel (Quetiapine) 100mg for insomnia for long term and how's the effect?

My doctor kept raising my Serequil until it reached 400mg, but it was finally working so I had no complaints…yet. Along with those, I was also prescribed Xanax 1mg 4x a day. What I did not know was that Seroquel and Xanax both store up on your body and that with just 1 of each taken together is a lethal dose! Now, I’m not an angel or anything but not generally a law breaker but that combination got me 2 public intoxication charges (1 with a disorderly conduct) in one weekend!! But I couldn’t remember ANY of it!! After I got the police reports back, I really didn’t want to know!! There was indecent exposure, lunging for guns, pumping gas into my back seat, trying to run a card that was a piece of paper, it goes on but I was completely sober! I understand that the police believed I was intoxicated because I wasn’t saying or doing anything that made any sense. Actually I was under the influence but not the illegal stuff they thought I was.
I thought I had a mental breakdown at 1st because that was the only thing that made any sense. The judge wouldn’t hear any of it. He ordered me to rehab. I was astonished! For once, I didn’t belong there but I’ve been doing everything he wants me to since. This includes the rehab, random weekly drug tests that are $30 each time knowing that currently unemployed, having those charges on my record and all because I did what my doctor told me to do! I don’t think we question our doctors enough, especially when the treatment is helping. I’ve heard a lot of horrible stories, mainly of the Seroquel and around the 100mg dose, since I’ve been telling my story. Honestly, I wasn’t directly aware that I had gotten up to 400mgs myself, that’s a lot of anything. But it was working, so I didn’t question my doctor. If I would’ve known that I could’ve killed myself and/or other people, because I got on the road and drove myself to the gas station and then to the grocery, I would’ve chose the insomnia gladly. So please let your loved ones that are on Seroquel know what they are taking and what it can do to them and possibly do to others by their hands unknowingly. I got lucky but not everyone is guaranteed to be as long as they continue to take it, regardless of what their doctor may be telling them. Do the research, there’s more than u could ever ask for or need. Surely if u read enough bad stuff is happening to other people, anyone would want it to not happen to them also. Spend the knowledge around people! Hopefully my story will help anyone who may not have known the danger of what they or a loved one has been taking.
I have been on 25 mg of Quetipaine for almost a year. It was prescribed for chronic insomnia. I’m also removing from a stroke. I also suffer from severe anxiety and depression. I live alone and have been shielding for the last 10 months and feel so isolated I don’t function well at the moment. I’m low and weepy and Christmas has been abn ordeal. I tried sleeping tablets but fought them. Quetiapine works after about 90 minutes and I get about 4 hours sleep. I crave natural sleep
Yes! I take 100 milligrams Seroquel for insomnia at bedtime because in our state of Pennsylvania, legislators refuse to permit my psychiatrist to prescribe Ambien or benzodiazepines! I suffer from bipolar episodes, but seroquel is the only drug I am given nowadays.
I suffer very much when I try to awaken! I have been treated with many kinds of bipolar reducing drugs but SEROQUEL is the worst drug I have ever had to take! SEROQUEL does absolutely nothing to reduce my depressive episodes. I hope and pray that my Lord God shall stop politicians who possess little or NO medical training from telling doctors/physicians what they can prescribe. SEROQUEL IS SO EXTREMELY SEDATING that by the morning I discover my brain, my central nervous system is so SMOTHERED AND rendered oblivious and extremely depressed that I oversleep two or three or even four hours!
Life has challenged me several times and with my family and God’s help I have been able to surmount enormous tribulation and survive!
But being only given SEROQUEL for my bipolar illness has been HELL on Earth!!
Seroquel is actually not a sleeping Medication.
I’m surprised your GP even prescribed them.
It’s mainly given to people with Schizophrenia.
It’s is being used for severe insomnia as an off-label application because at lower doses it has a strong sedating effect.
Hi I take 200 mgs at night. Been on it a year and it still knocks me out at night. I also take Klonopin. I'm wanting to decrease the dosage however because it makes me really disoriented in the am.
yes my grandson is in a better mood AFTER GETTING RUN OVER BY A CAR AND CUTTING his leg on purpose AND TAKING Seroquel 100 mg
Well, I was taking 200mg. It was great. Kept away my night terrors and let me get a good nights sleep. When I had to switch to the generic, Quetiapine Fumarate for 5 years. I got bad side effects if I didn’t fall asleep within 30 minutes. That happened 2-3 times a week. Got bad RLS, my nasal passages swelled shut and I couldn’t breath enough to fall asleep. I would be up 5-6 hours trying to get relief. Just switched to something else; but, I have to take 10mg extended release Melatonin to fall asleep. Tried Gabapentin for 3 weeks & I felt like I was dying. My Quality of Life just disappeared. Good luck.
I've been taking 100mg quetiapine & 2mg ativan, & am sleeping quite well now. Ambien, lunesta, & others did not help me. My depression has gotten very bad, but I'm not at all sure it's related to these meds.
I have been on it for about 3 years. Starting at 150 but now 100. It's a commitment of no less than 8 hrs a night. It hits in a couple of hours at 100. I drag it out because I fight it (not recommended I add). It's best to follow otherwise prepare to sleep in. Fighting also lessens affect. It's not bad when it's done right. Don't follow my example.
I've been taking 50mg Seroquel IR for many months now for insomnia. It hasn't lost its effect. Get about 8 hours of sleep per night.
I have BiPolar and one of my meds is Seroquel 100 for sleeping and 100 for Anxiety. It does help for insomnia I take Lunesta as well.
I have been taking Quintipine 800 mg for 8 years! I know I need to get off it because it’s bad for liver and constipation! All I can say is I’m going to take myself slowly and start taking 20-30mg of melatonin has some not so desirable side effects! But I can tell get off the Quintipine long term use is not good for you!
I specifically have 100 mg tablets that I can take as needed if I am having extra problem sleeping or hypomanic (mixed). I take an additional 250 mg of XR – extended release - to help bipolar disorder symptoms, including sleep.
I have been taking Seroquel for several years now. I only bad side effects from me have been weight gain, constipation, hair loss. I took care of the first by getting a dog and walking her over a mile every day; Second by eating an apple a day and no gluten; and the last one by taking 5000 IU of biotin. I attend as awesome for hair loss!
I don’t have any daily sedation with this medication. If I mix it with extra trazodone and Diazepam, I may be groggy in the morning but that’s it.
I have been taking Seroquel for about 5 years for insomnia. The Seroquel 100mg is the only way for me to actually get to sleep at night. I take naps but can't fall asleep on my on at the end of the day. I have times if I run out, I might be awake for two days straight and not be tired at all. I am going to continue to take it some that I can have normal nights.
I have been taking Seroquel for 10 years now for Insomnia. I started out with a 150 mg until I got restless leg syndrome last year so they upped it to 200 mg to help me get through the night.
