For Major Depressive Disorder "My experience with Remeron is short. It worked wonders for me, but I stopped it as it causes awful weight gain. 21 pounds in 4 weeks. I looked pregnant. It made me more depressed. I would just eat. It does something to your brain that makes you feel as though you are never full. At night, I would sneak food. I could not stop. I was at 30mg. I've heard 15 mg is worse for weight gain. Also, this drug is also given to elderly patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and also given to people with eating disorders (bulimia and anorexia). As I said, in one respect, it did wonders for me with anxiety and depression and stopped the voices in my head and helped me sleep. But I couldn't go through gaining any more weight."

For Depression "It's helped me with sleep and a bit with my depression. Over the years, they have upped my dose to 45 milligrams. It hasn't helped me a bit with my anxiety. Actually, if you wake up at night, your body is asleep and your mind is active, which makes it hard to walk. This has just started happening to me, so I think I may need to increase to 60 milligrams. I believe 60 is the max. Wondering if I'm building up a tolerance to it. I have been taking this medication for 4 plus years. I was also told that it was an appetite stimulant and it didn't do anything for me there either. This medication did not mess with my head or make me feel groggy in the morning. I would give this medication a chance before all other antidepressants."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have been anxious, paranoid, and depressed since puberty (10 years). Doctors have tried SSRIs, SNRIs, and benzos, but nothing seemed to be working. The doctor wrote a script for Remeron. I was skeptical at first, and the initial side effects scared me (slurred speech, drowsiness, blurred vision), however, I kept with it and I feel so much better. It is relieving being able to live without thinking I am about to get fired or if I am getting fat (which is ridiculous). I actually have an eating disorder, and I am clinically underweight. My neurotic paranoia seems to be somewhat cornered, and I no longer depend on alcohol to keep me under control. I have only been on the drug for a week at 15 mg. Hopefully, this journey is almost over."

For Anxiety "I've been on this medicine for about 2 years now. I started out on it for anxiety/depression at 15mg. It worked great for a while. My depression is gone but my anxiety still has its times where it is bad and uncontrollable. After about a year, my dose was increased to 30mg for anxiety. It worked great again this time for a couple of months, but it still creeped back. After a while, I was seeing a new psychiatrist, and she tried putting me on Fluvoxamine to try getting me off of Remeron. I liked the feeling of the new medicine, but I felt nausea and upset stomach for about a week and a half. So she put me back on Remeron 30mg, but I only took 15mg, and I felt better than before when I was on 30mg. In all, this medicine has worked great for me."

For Depression "Remeron was a wonder drug for me the first month of taking it. The first week, I felt so happy and was eating like a pig (I'm underweight, so that was amazing to see me gain so much in a week). I slept like a baby the first night and all the rest of the time I was on it. I would knock out at around 11 when I'd usually fall asleep at like 4 or 5. Then the second month came around. I'm not sure if it was something else, but I started experiencing intrusive thoughts and my OCD started kicking in a lot. My doctor took me off, and now I'm spiraling down again. I'm not sure if it was the medication, but this medication worked well for a while!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have taken Remeron for over 6 years at 30 mg before bedtime to treat lifelong suicidal depression and debilitating social anxiety. In the first few days of taking it, I can say it was like a switch put to normal. It knocks me out within half an hour of taking it, and it is not possible to wake me into a coherent and alert state for at least 5 hours. That isn't an issue for me, and the family is used to it now also. The hours of guaranteed sleep are an added bonus. I have my life back, I no longer have social anxiety, and I can deal with very high-pressure situations perfectly fine. I have noticed a worsening of short-term memory issues, but given my line of work, I can't say it has a relationship to the med, and I will not go off the med to find out."

"I’d actually give Remeron a 9.5/10 for insomnia and anorexia. It has been amazing for me, personally. But I’ll say this first: I can’t give it a perfect score because I take only a 1/4 tab (tabs are 7.25 mg, I believe) of it every night before bed, and it makes me a little tired the next morning after waking up. But either way, I’ll take it! With that being said, I sleep so well. Turns out anxiety (and depression) kept waking me up at night. But with Remeron, I go into a deep sleep and don’t wake up till it’s time to do so. I dream like crazy, too (good thing). Not sleeping had kept me in a vicious depressed cycle. Sleeping is extremely important and can affect your mood. Remeron takes care of both: appetite and sleep. It’s a wonder drug! Although, I do crave sweets a lot, but again, I’ll take it!"

For Anxiety "For two years, I have had chronic nausea that starts about an hour after waking up and lasts through mid-afternoon. It is so bad I usually have to skip lunch. For various reasons, I believed it was anxiety-related, and after some research, asked my doctor if I could try mirtazapine due to its anti-anxiety, antiemetic, and appetite-stimulating properties. I could not be happier! The nausea was better the first day after taking it, and within two or three days was totally gone. I finally have my appetite back, too. I don't know that I'd recommend this medicine to people who are overweight, but for those who can afford or even want to gain weight it can be a lifesaver!"

For Anxiety "Improved the physical and mental symptoms I had with anxiety/depression but in a reduced dose. More than 10 mg would keep me too drowsy and make me forgetful. I have been on it for 19 years and have tried to get off it several times but my physical symptoms (stomach cramping) return after a few days. The generic form was far less effective. Does cause constipation with me."

For Major Depressive Disorder "This medicine is a godsend. Being 100% honest, I didn't like it because of the vivid nightmares, but they do stop with continued usage. Don't give up too soon. The vivid nightmares stopped after my 5th day of taking this drug. Now, 2 weeks later, my nightmares are gone and I have normal dreams that don't involve death, violence, or carnage. I sleep well and awaken rested. Some days there is a little grogginess in the morning, but it wears off as you start moving. A cup of coffee helps as well. My appetite has increased, and several people complain of weight gain. You will gain too much weight if you stay sedentary. I started lifting weights and doing planks and push-ups. That keeps the weight gain at bay."

"I have been on and off antidepressants my whole life, and was struggling with the side effects of Prozac (stimulant causing sleep issues). I had tried Remeron before, but it was too sedating and I felt like a zombie the entire next day. But my doctor suggested revisiting it and I had time off work so thought why not. I started on 7.5 and took it in the morning. Five hours later I was in a full nap on the couch. So I changed the time when I took it (right after dinner) and the effects lined up with bedtime and slept wonderfully. No hangover fog the next day, could function as normal. I next tried to increase the dose to 15, per my doctor, and experienced the stifled breathing issues detailed as a side effect, which someone attributed to the increase in norepinephrine activity from Remeron. So I reduced the dosage to 7.5 and feel fine again. I no longer have ideation and severe (constant) fight or flight, or depression. It's saved my life."

For Depression "I am using Remeron to help with nausea, depression, and anxiety as I taper off 1 mg of Klonopin after several years of using that drug. It was hard in the beginning; I had headaches and crushing fatigue for weeks. Now, I feel this drug has been a godsend; it helps with all and ensures that I sleep well most nights. This is my third attempt to get off of Klonopin and I have never been able to reduce my dosage so much. I do notice that my weight is now creeping up, so I need to watch that more carefully, but that side effect is one I will have to tackle as I will not give up my Remeron."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Just started taking this med again. I've been on more than I can count over the years. The only downfall I've had is the daytime foggy feeling which I'm hoping will subside over time. I've only been taking this less than a week and my depression symptoms have greatly improved as well as I sleep well every night. Appetite has gone up for me as well but not a concern for me at this point. Very happy overall. I will post again in a few weeks to give another update"

For Depression "I was dealing with cancer and was given Remeron for depression. After having surgery for the cancer, which was successful, I continued with the drug but was having issues with my blood pressure. My BP would drop over 20 points when I stood up, and I would lose my breath when walking short distances. All symptoms went away once I quit taking the drug. I would not recommend this drug to anyone, as it set my recovery back greatly."

For Depression "I’ve struggled with severe nausea induced by anxiety for years. I went to countless doctors thinking it was a GI issue, but they couldn’t find anything. I finally went to a psychiatrist, and she prescribed me Remeron. I occasionally get nauseous still, but it is bearable and doesn’t prevent me from doing everyday things like it did if I take this medication on schedule. If I forget to take it one day, the nausea returns, but I am able to live everyday life normally with this pill. The one thing I will say is that this pill will knock you out. I work early in the morning and have to take this pill and go to sleep around 7 PM every night, but that is doable for me and definitely worth the benefits of this medication. This medication saved me!!"

For Major Depressive Disorder "No matter how much sleep I got, I was constantly tired. I could barely function during the day. And when I was functioning, I wanted to eat everything. In 2 months, I ended up gaining 15 lbs, which definitely did not help with the depression."

"Just want to know if anybody else feels this. I am only taking 7.5 mg Remeron of this. I have been on it about 2 months. It has helped, but now I have tired, sore muscles in different places. My shoulder hurts a lot. So over it. Rather go back to panic attacks. Has anybody else experienced this? Nothing like this has happened to me. A little concerned, but deep down I know it is this med. Going to take less tonight and wean off of it. Thanks for any comments."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I was taking this medication for six years, and it was life-changing. I was struggling to gain weight, I never had an appetite, and I was depressed, and no medication seemed to work, but Remeron was the only pill that worked for me. Unfortunately, I put on 40 pounds, and I have an almost overweight BMI, so I will have to stop this medication. This medication won't 'cure' your depression, but it's as if nothing seems like a big deal when you're on it, so therefore you feel less stressed and anxious."

For Depression "I have been on this medication only 2 weeks. I am finally not crying all the time. I am still not sleeping. I go for days not sleeping, and when I do, it is only for 2 or 3 hours. I am hoping this med eventually helps my sleep time. I don't seem to be having any side effects. If weight gain is a side effect, it will help since I have been too thin most of my life. I have tried so many meds for depression, and this one seems to be the only one that has had any effect on it at all. I would consider it to be wonderful and would recommend it for depression."

For Depression "I started taking Remeron about two weeks ago. I feel better, less depressed, but I am experiencing a different side effect than what is listed. My tongue feels numb, and I can't taste anything very well. Everything has the same taste. I called the advice nurse. She talked with the doctor, and I was advised to keep taking it until my appointment next week. I am going to wait to see the doctor before I report this to the FDA."

For Anxiety "Taking Remeron at night and Effexor in the morning helped me a lot. Before I started it, it took me 2-4 hours to fall asleep every night, which left me with six hours of sleep at most. Now I'm able to fall asleep easily and sleep through the night. I never had any trouble with the side effects, so it worked out well for me."

"I was having a very hard time with the anxiety of thinking something was wrong with my heart (which turned out to be nothing), when I was put on Remeron. I had virtually stopped eating, and just felt very anxious and not myself. It helped a good bit with the anxiety, but it turbocharged my appetite. Would not recommend this to anyone who is overweight, but it's great for anxiety sufferers who lose their appetite when they get anxious. It does make you very sleepy the first week or so you take it, so I would take it before bed. I didn't notice any sexual side effects though, which was another big selling point. The sedation seems stronger at lower doses, and I had some bizarre dreams at lower doses as well."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I am an addict. I started taking Remeron at Recovery Works about 4 weeks ago. I have always had trouble sleeping due to many many years of drug use so they started me on 15 mg it wasn't working so my dosage was increased to 30 mg. Within 20 minutes after taking it I am ready for bed. I still wake up 1-2 times every night but I have had no trouble falling asleep whatsoever. Also, my craving to use has dramatically decreased. I don't feel like I am dependent on it but I definitely want to take it every night before bed. My appetite and weight have remained under control and normal. I do feel a little "foggy" in the mornings but it usually subsides and I am not drowsy or tired throughout the next day. This drug was the answer to my insomnia. Definitely a plus for people in recovery."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have been taking Remeron for about three years, at various dosages. It does a great job of handling my depression without aggravating my anxiety. It also gives me severe munchies, especially for carbs. But otherwise, I have no side effects. Which is a first with me and antidepressants; the SSRIs in particular wrecked me. My doctor told me that usually, people who can't take SSRIs will be able to tolerate Remeron."

For Depression "I have bipolar disorder, and during my low episodes, I experience intense anxiety, which feels all day like that feeling when you look over a huge drop (if you're scared of heights). That feeling where your heart almost jumps out of your mouth, and also with ruminating thoughts of guilt and shame (OCD-like), that are so extreme they send me into depersonalization with hallucinations. After just 1 or 2 doses of Remeron at a dose of 15 mg, during these episodes, those ruminating thoughts and anxiousness almost completely disappear. It's miraculous. They make me so numb that I feel like I could do a bungee jump and not feel anything, which at times is a lifesaver. However, that feeling of complete numbness, paired with feeling very groggy in the mornings, is what makes me come off of it when these episodes pass. Using it in this way is what works for me, although it's an off-label way of using it. With BPD, the numbness makes me split on my partner quite badly and lessens my creativity."
