"Excess facial hair has always been a problem for me as well as abnormally heavy periods. For the first time in my life I don't have to worry about waking up with dark hairs sprouting out of my chin... three months ago, before taking this pill, I was plucking / waxing every day, and now my upper lip and chin hair has been reduced by 90%. I am 30 years old. Anyone else have this experience? OC's are not a common treatment for excess hair and I'm wondering why, because this has been a life changing experience for me. I don't think I am imagining things. I went from plucking at least once a day to a couple of times a week. Thanks for reading."

"I want to reply to an earlier post. Birth control pills do help with facial hair. They are used to treat PCOS, which causes excess facial hair. High levels of testosterone can cause facial hair. Birth control pills have sex binding globulin which binds extra testosterone helping to reduce its levels and excess facial hair. It is also why some women on birth control pills may experience a decreased sex drive (testosterone is responsible for sex drive in men and women). I've also been using lutera for a month and have notices a significant reduction of facial hair, but I have also had spotting for over a week."

"For the first 6 months lutera worked very well for me unlike other birth controls that I previously took. Lutera had almost no side effects such as weight gain and moodiness. My periods were regular and lighter then after about 6 months, I started getting my period every 2 weeks. This went on for 2 months until I stopped taking the pill."

"My doctor recommended this pill to help balance my hormones and regulate my flow. I have been on the pill for a month and will not be taking it a second month. I had spotting everyday and became anemic."

"I've been taking Lutera for Dilated veins in uterus (PVC) i've been on it for about 3 months to ease cramps & decrease bleeding, but it hasn't really done either. During the first month of the pill, I bled daily so I didn't necessarily have a period. I also gained about 5 pounds within 2 weeks, became extremely moody & still had issues with cramps. Month 2, I still experienced a lot of spotting, but it would be supressed for about a day or two, then continue for a week. I actually had a lighter period & some of the cramping was eased, but the weight gain & moodiness came with depression, lack of energy & made my skin breakout (seeing I never really had acne issues). I'm almost done with my 3rd pack & I plan to switch pills once I'm able to visit my doctor again."

"I’ve been taking them for two months now. They’ve caused pretty bad acne, breast soreness, cramps, depression and anxiety. I feel sad all the time and really unmotivated. I’m taking them to regulate my period and it does the job. I know I’m supposed to wait 3 months to get used to them but I don’t know if it’s worth it honestly."

"Lutera has been a nightmare for me. I started it because of heavy bleeding and bad cramps. I just finished my 2nd pack, not taking the placebo pills. I haven't stopped bleeding since the end of the 1st pack's 2nd week. Four weeks straight of bleeding. Not spotting either--I'm going through a box of super tampons each week and clotting just as bad as my period off the pill. Instead of awful cramps, I'm having mild cramps and occasional sharp pelvic pain. But... it's everyday now, not just two days of my period. It also left me unmotivated for the first several weeks and worsened my depression during that time. Thankfully, the mental side effects seem to be subsiding. So, not only dangerous to my mental health, it's also doing the exact opposite of what I started it for. All the nurses will say is 'the spotting could continue for the first 3-6 months.' At the rate I am having periods SIX MONTHS is 45 periods (almost 4 years worth of bleeding for me). If it doesn't stop by the end of this pack, I'm beyond done."

"I love this birth control!! I have been on it for almost 2 years, it is great for me! My periods are lighter, less cramps. In August my pharmacy swapped me to Avaine and I saw a terrible change. My bleeding became so irregular, I had brown mucus until I started the next pack, I would start super late in the in actives or early in the actives. I would cramp all month. I hated avaine. I swapped pharmacies and am now back on lutera and I cannot wait for everything to go back to normal."

"I started taking Lutera because I had abnormally heavy periods. Just started the 3rd month and have been dizzy very frequently. I fainted at work twice and then vomited. Had to go to ER for all the tests and all came back normal. Have been dizzy and tired almost every day lately. The pill is the only recent changes so I'm going to discontinue immediately. I'd rather have the heavy periods."
