Reviews for Zarah

"I started taking the pill at 11 years ago to help with dysmenhorrea (really painful periods) and after trying a few different pills to find one that worked for me I started using Yasmin. I used Yasmin for many years and it worked very well for me. Recently my insurance company decided that they would cover Zarah but not the Yasmin so my pharmacy switched me and told me that they were the same pill. When you look at the monograph included with the pills the only noticeable difference is with the non-medicinal ingredients so I agreed to the switch. I wish I hadn't. When I first started Zarah I was nauseated on and off for about a month. Then I noticed that I was getting quite bloated. My weight has gone up 2 or 3 pounds."

"I NEVER take time out of my day to write reviews on products however I felt it was necessary for this. Overall I am extremely unhappy with Zarah. I am not sexually active therefore I took it more for my acne. Before Zarah I was on Ocella which I LOVED but had to switch due to location purposes. Ocella cleared my face up and did not give me any mood swings. However, once I started Zarah I broke out SO bad on my chin and forehead, Its been about three weeks since I stopped and I am still suffering from acne. If you are taking this pill merely just for acne, DO NOT DO IT. I also got awful mood swings. I do not advise."

"I'm not one to typically give reviews but after my experience on Zarah, I decided I'd like to. The only nice this about Zarah was yes, it may have helped prevent pregnancy, Yes it may have made my breasts grow, BUT some of the negatives outweighs the positives. While on Zarah, I had uncontrollable mood swings and depression. I reached a point where the lowest or low. That's when I realized that the Zarah pill is what made me go "psyco". Just personally, I'd never recommend it to anyone."

"Was originally on TriNessa and hated it; Tri made me extremely emotional and I started breaking out in cysts. Been on Zarah for a little over a month and all of my cysts are gone. My old acne scars are clearing up and my emotions are very stable now. Sarah's packaging is cute (as if that matters, lol) and it's super easy to use. Although everyone reacts differently, Zarah was perfect for me and I recommend it to everyone."

"I usually never write reviews but I felt the need to share my experience for future users. I was on ocella for a couple years before my pharmacy switched me over to zarah. Ocella was great, I had zero side effects from it and it even cleared up my skin so that was a plus. But when I switched to zarah, the cons outweighed the pros. First off, my acne returned worse than it was before. I also had constant anxiety and moodiness. But the worse side effect seemed to be low sex drive and vaginal dryness. My sex life disappeared for nearly three months, and even if I wanted to have sex there was zero lubrication to do so. The only thing this birth control did right was preventing me from getting pregnant, and that was basically only because I had no sex drive while on it. Once I got off of it all my side effects regarding acne, anxiety, moodiness, sex drive and dryness went away. If you can avoid taking this birth control you should."

"I was put on Zarah because I needed a low dosage pill, after being on Loestrin that made me sick. I have been taking it for 2 years, now all of a sudden I'm having breakthrough bleeding out of nowhere like I just started the pill"

"This is the first birth control I've been on, I mostly used it for acne at first. For the first 1 month it was fine then after that I started getting nauseous a few hours after taking the pill. Then the 3rd month I would get really nauseous that I would almost throw up and this was happening a few days a week and I missed to much school, so I finally stopped taking it. But besides being super nausea all the time I had moodswings, did nothing for my acne, bad cramps, and anxiety. The only good thing is was that it regulated my period."

"The pharmacy made an error last month, accidentally giving me Zarah vs. my regular Vestura. I don't know what it is about this pill, but my body went haywire -- mood swings, swollen tender breasts, a few lbs. weight gain (even though I am on a strict 1500 diet that didn't change), fatigue, sensory changes (smell/taste). My partner and I were both convinced I was pregnant until my period finally came! On the plus side -- my skin looks amazing and no spotting like I get on Vestura..but these side effects are too much!"

"I am rating Zarah a 5/10 because I did like some aspects of this med. I did not have any unnecessary bleeding during the month which was great, my acne cleared up significantly and my periods were very regular and not that heavy. I did gain some weight on this med but nothing too serious and I did have a headache when I first started this medication & on my periods. BUT I have recently stopped this med I was EXTREMELY** anxious during the time I was on this medication. I cried at least 4-5 times a week and would usually have at least one breakdown a day. Crying, chest pain, trouble breathing, couldn't focus. Just writing this so those feeling this way know they are not alone. I am feeling much better and hope I continue to get better."

"Love this birth control. I was on ocella before and had to switch due to the pharmacy not carrying Ocella. My skin is clear with no crazy mood swings and no weight gain. My period is still 5 days the first two days are horrible. The cramping is the same, but I don't get PMS .This birth control is great if you are battling acne and PMS. It's totally effective. I have only been on it 4 months and I love it."

"I have tane Zarah for almost a year now and I had to share my experience with others. this pill is extremely affective with me as a birth control and as an acne pill. My boobs have gotten a little bigger than they were, but that is depending on your body. It works different for each person and for me it has been an amazing experience."

"I've been taking Zarah for 7 months. It's the only birth control I've ever taken (I'm 17). Last fall I broke out in some of the worst acne I've ever experienced. I had deep rooted cystic acne all over my chin and jaw (area known for hormonal breakouts). I started taking it at the end of February and by mid-April my skin was clear, flawless for the first time in my life. That aside, the week before my period (peach pills) I become moody and emotional and cry extremely easily which has never happened before and is very annoying. My cramps are more intense and my period is heavier and lasts longer (went from ~4 days to ~7 days). I haven't noticed a weight difference but my boobs have grown about a cup size. It's a mixed bag for me."

"I just started my 2nd month of Zarah. I switched to this one because my precious BC was causing spotting. This is by far the worst birth control I've ever taken. I've been having severe mood swings and crying spells, which never happened before. I cannot take it anymore."

"I've only been on zarah for almost 2 weeks. I know, that is not long enough, but, I have noticed I become nauseous here and there. My mood changes frequently too. I never had these problems with other birth controls"

"I use Zarah for my acne cause I have bad acne I started 2 months ago and it cleared my acne up it's just that now I have a few breakouts now and then and some scars from before. I think this product is really helpful for acne, it works on some people like me and people are not the same so it might or might not work for you."

"I absolutely love Zarah. I've been taking it well over a year now. Never gained weight, cleared up my acne so much, great 3-4 day period. I switched to ocello for about one month (not by choice) and I absolutely hated it. Ocello made me super moody and anxious. Zarah almost keeps me in check. Personally every female is different and I would ask a doctor instead of reading reviews!"

"I usually use Ocella (been using for 4 years) and switched to Zarah for my vacation because the pharmacy was out, but wow, it triggered huge mood swings and a deep depression the 2nd week in, By the 3rd week, I was crying every morning and feeling in a slump for hours on end. It was sporadic, like on and off, sometimes I'd feel fine and then I'd feel horrible again in a few hours. Yikes."

"Worst experience of an entire 4 weeks! This was the first time I took an oral contraceptive and I regret it. I've had terrible mood swings. One minute I'm fine, then the next I'm arguing and angry with everyone and everything. I've also gained weight. Sex life hasn't been disrupted, however being deeply depressed ruins it anyways. I'm usually happy and alert, however on Zarah I've been tires and sleepy. Can't wait to finally stop this and try another brand."

"I switched to Zarah last year around April/May because my periods had become irregular. I didn't notice any changes in the first few months (I had taken Microgestin Fe 1/20 for about 3 years prior). But two months ago I went off Zarah due to terrible depression and anxiety. I've never had many PMS symptoms but for about the last 5 months of taking Zarah I noticed that my depression and anxiety got worse and worse every month when I was PMSing. It was getting so bad that I switched my pill to Microgestin Fe 1.5/30, but I just completely went off the pill because my anxiety depression have never been worse and I truly believe it was Zarah that messed it up."

"Was on this for 6 months. Didn't help with my acne but no weight gain. Mood swings were intermittent and manageable. Didn't affect my sex drive. Only complaint was that it cost me $55/month (and had to buy 3 months at a time!) Switched to Safyral because it was cheaper - I've been sick with side effects since I switched! Miss Zarah."

"I took this particular kind of birth control because it is suppose to be similar to Yasmin and my health providers covered it at no cost. I suffer with mild acne and zarah made it worse. The only time my skin would clear was during the off week I wasn't taking. I also think zarah may be the cause of gaining around 10 pounds. I tried zarah for about 4 months and saw no improvements."

"Was on this pill for 8 years slowly began to notice my weight increasing. My diet was nearly perfect and I was working out 5 times a week not seeing any results. I didn’t know what the issue was so I decided to stop taking the pill. Within weeks of stopping this pill my weight decreased by 10 lbs and I was way less emotional. Now trying to find an effective method of birth control without the terrible side effects."

"I started this birth control a few months ago and it has made me into a hormonal mess! One of the side effects is anger and I didn't realize it till yesterday when I didn't speak to my husband for 30 mins all because he wouldn't turn the radio station off when I didn't want to listen to a song. I have never gotten so upset over something to silly. There's other instances but that was just the one that made me realize I need to get on a different pill."

"Hi all! No history of any acne during my teens. Started bcp when i was 17, now at 26 I went off (ortho tri cyclen) to try the Mirena IUD. I went from having not one pimple a year to about 5-6 large cysts a week. I had the IUD in for about 5 months and started breaking out almost immediately after i got it. I got the IUD out about three weeks ago and started taking Zarah (generic for Yamisn). My insurance will not cover Yasmin and I can't pay for it out of pocket. I'm finishing my first pack this week, I've seen no improvement. Will continue to take it until I get used to it and I'll report back to you ladies. I hear month 3 is the charm. Wish me luck. I hate make up and can't wait to go back to my clear skin again. This sucks!"

"I'm 19 and have been on Zarah for 2 years due to endometriosis. I don't notice my periods being much lighter while on it but that's probably due to my condition. I have had zero weight gain on this medication and my skin is always clear. It made me a little nauseous I'm the beginning, but nothing like what other bc pills did to me. This is by far my favorite!"
